I thought something was going down as I live near Shirley and I could here sirens for quite some time last night. It's about time the council pulled down these death trap flats, but no ours would rather build more! RIP :(

Very sad story, hopefully no other casualties either FF's or residents. Thoughts are for the colleagues and families of those lost.

Firstly, my thoughts go out to the families of the firefighters who have lost their lives.

It is somewhat extreme to suggest these flats are death traps, of course we do not yet know the cause of the firefighters deaths but to have evacuated the volume of residents without harm to the same conflicts with your statement.

From St Mary's, just spoke to my cousin as her hubby is a firefighter at St Mary's, he's alright in the fact he's alive but not that he's lost 2 colleagues.
Oh god, a couple of those lads from there played cricket for us a few years back.

Sad day whoever father/son husbands have perished.

RIP

Absolutely tragic.

I'm waiting to find out who these guys are. My sons rugby coach is a firefighter, really hoping he isn't one of the deceased.

RIP guys and thanks for your bravery

And if you had ever lived in one you would know what I mean!

Sad sad news , thoughts go out to their family

makes u realise what a wonderful job they do in very dangerous circumstances.

+1.

If they were Saints fans, I hope that the club does a minutes silence at the Charlton game.

Think they should anyway really, considering the ground and the Fire station the deceased were from shares the same name

Just been updated on the Echo site with their names.

As sad as I am for their families, I am hugely relieved to discover that a friend of mine who works out of St Marys station was not one of them.

RIP to two extraordinarily brave men.

I'm not a big fan of the public outpourings of grief, flowers and all that, In fact in the majority of cases , I would argue that its just trying to get on telly.

Very very sad, familys of the two guys must be devestated, poor things.

As aside, the interviews with people from the estate in question show Shirley to be right **** hole, looked like they had just walked out of a charity shop the lot of them.

Yes, im a snob.

According to the Echo, wreath has been left at the fire station "From the Chairman and everyone at Southampton Football Club".

Nice touch. RIP boys.

The very small crumb of comfort for their families is that they passed away saving the lives of the public. Just like members of the Armed Forces, the Emergency Services are true heroes.

RIP guys.

Yes, im a knob.

Really? You mean people living in council flats are typically from a lower social demographic than those who own their properties? What an interesting thought to add to an otherwise respectful thread.

Yup, When Diana died me and my brother were just wandering around Kensington Palace trying to get in front of the cameras.

When Princess Diana died I was on the T.V outside Westminster Abbey lining the route.

If I wasn't a fat, alcoholic waste of space, I wouldn't mind becoming a fireman, but you need some serious balls to do the job, and this incident highlights why. RIP to the guys - partners of fire personnel must cack themselves when their other halves go off to work.

I'll stick with my safe job working on the most bombable metro system in the world at the site of the most bombable place in Britain.

Very interested to know the cause of the fire.

I really hope it was not as a result of somebody ****ed up or out of their heads on drugs that caused it - otherwise they should be prosecuted for murder.

- That's how it works in the U.S and quite rightly so in my opinion.

Me myself and I ( and the rest of B Company, Princess of Wales Royal Regiment )

I don't know why but I have visions of this.

RIP the brave firefighters.

The flowers from the Saints were amongst the first to arrive at the station yesterday. A very nice touch from Mr Cortese and the club, the man is a class act.

I think Al was a Saints fan but I'm not 100% on it. Jim definately was though and regularly went to games at SMS with his Dad.

RIP lads, you'll be missed.
