Supersubpuckett Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Since when have we been known as the Reds? This chant was doing the rounds quite a lot yesterday, have I missed something as I thought we were the Saints? Are Newcastle known as the blacks? Apologies if this post has been dealt with before (so feel free to abuse me in the way only this forum knows) but I can't see why we're calling ourselves this when we've got a well established and distinctive nickname that goes right back to our heritage.
Saint_clark Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Where have you been hiding for the last 10 years?
Legod Third Coming Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Where have you been hiding for the last 10 years? 30 to my knowledge...
Supersubpuckett Posted 6 April, 2010 Author Posted 6 April, 2010 alright alright, **** off everyone and get back to work
StuRomseySaint Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Hmmm I remember my first game in the Upper Milton Terrace, screaming out Come on You Reds... .... it was 1984
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 So when we shout 'come on you yellows' at away matches, surely, by your logic, we should shout 'Come on you yellow and blues with a little bit of black for the manufacturer's logo, oh and don't forget the club crest which of course is red, white, green, blue and black...'
Weston Saint Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 It was always "Come on you Saints" in the 60's Why it changed to Reds when we are red & white is anyones guess. Lets get back to Saints please.
Redbul Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 30 to my knowledge... I can add about another 8 to that....Were certainly yelling this at the first games I went to circa 1972 when I was a nipper. That and S O U TH AMPT ON....sorry, the spaces or lack of between the letters are supposed to denote a beat. Or indeed, lack of....

Can we please drop that pathetic Pompey's going down with no money in the bank - which doesn't even fecking scan properly - and replace with S O U TH Ampton... Thank you.

JonnyLove Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 So next year if we do go back to our white shirt with a single red stripe will it be come on you whites, Reds or Saints. Personally I feel we should ditch Reds in favour of Saints. Oh and at Away matches with We always just used to chant Yellow, not come on you yellows. I suppose if we use Come on you Saints we can use this home and away
miserableoldgit Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I do remember "Yellows, yellows, yellows... (etc)" and Come on you yellows" at Wembley in 1976.
miserableoldgit Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I prefer saints. I am an "either/or" sort of guy. Reds or Saints - makes no difference to me.

Saint_clark Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Come on you reds just seems to roll of the tongue easier than Saints, unfortunately.
StuRomseySaint Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Knees up Mother Brown Knees up Mother Brown Under the table you must go Ee-aye, Ee-aye, Ee-aye-oh If I catch you bending I'll saw your legs right off Knees up, knees up Never get the breeze up Knees up Mother Brown Oh my, what a rotten song What a rotten song What a rotten song Oh my, what a rotten song And what a rotten singer Too-oo-ooh
100%Red&White Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I do remember "Yellows, yellows, yellows... (etc)" and Come on you yellows" at Wembley in 1976. Throughout the 70s and 80s if we were playing in Yellow it was always "C'mon You Yeeelloooooows", it only changed after Swindon visited the Dell some time in the 90s and made quite a racket with "Yellows, Yellows, Yellows, etc." and, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, we just copied it. And it's always been "C'mon You Reds" since I started going early 70s - and it used to be belted out with a bit of feeling rather then the limp-wristed effort we get these dayszzzzzzzzzzz!
The9 Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 So next year if we do go back to our white shirt with a single red stripe... I have been wondering this for about 2 months but couldn't be arsed to post it on here because I know how little people care about our kits (except when they're "wrong", i.e. exist). COYR will have been remarkably short-sighted as a marketing campaign if next season will be white with red sash/white/black like the original.
Sheaf Saint Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Can we please drop that pathetic Pompey's going down with no money in the bank - which doesn't even fecking scan properly Indeed. went to the Tranmere game a few weeks back and I was embarrassed at the fact that we now seem to have more anti-pompey songs than pro-saints ones. what's that all about?
MarkSFC Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I remember from the Dell (and prefer to the full version) "you reds" with the you extensuated! And it's still a great chant at corners!
once_bitterne Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Mikey Wilde always used to use COYR but I think he meant Liverpool... Having said that he must be a fan as he stills logs on this site just about every day!
Glasgow_Saint Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I was the 1st person to notice that we play in red & white I was also the 1st person to sing "come on you reds" I own the colour RED
krissyboy31 Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Come on you reds just seems to roll of the tongue easier than Saints, unfortunately. Not at St Helens.

Am getting flashbacks now of midweek cup replays under the dell floodlights and the spine tingling moment when the chant would go up as we prepared to take a corner....... come on you reeeedddddddddsssssssssssssssssss!!!

sadoldgit Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 What is going to happen when we wear the white shirts next season? Can't get my head around common you whites!!!

Can we please drop that pathetic Pompey's going down with no money in the bank - which doesn't even fecking scan properly - and replace with S O U TH Ampton... Thank you. I'm all for that. And the COY Saints. And it will also f-uck up Nick Ills other enterprise, which will make StuRomseySaint do a little jig with glee.
Secret Site Agent Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I was the 1st person to notice that we play in red & white I was also the 1st person to sing "come on you reds" I own the colour RED RED is the colour of the New Republic.
Secret Site Agent Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 (edited) Oh, and I have been taking my little girl of late. She went to her first saints game at the end of last season, as I didn't know if there would even be a club this season, (Markus be praised), but at the MK dons Semi at the SMS she did make me and my bestest friend laugh when we were 3 up and she shouted out 'GREEN army' by accident. She's only 9. I banned her from watching Aviva adverts for life. Edited 8 April, 2010 by Secret Site Agent

Saint Malc Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I always get confused (easily done I know) during away games when, whilst watching my team in dark blue shirts, the song 'YELLOWS, YELLOWS.........' is belted out. What's that all about? ;-) COYS!
Winchester Exile Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I've been boring people to death for years now on this subject. Man U and Liverpool are reds. We are Saints and unique. COYS
lil 1 Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I've been boring people to death for years now on this subject. Man U and Liverpool are reds. We are Saints and unique. COYS Me to.what sounds better, come on you spurs or come on you whites?
saint_kev Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Normally sung when we have a corner.. Its a Tradition
docker-p Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 It's always been "Come on you Reds" since I've been going (1975) although if we could change it to "Come on you Saints" it would be better. One thing at a time though. I still would like us to sing "Oh when the Saints" just steadily over and over, not starting too slow and getting faster, just one slowish pace throughout and then again without the repeated bit.
Supersubpuckett Posted 6 April, 2010 Author Posted 6 April, 2010 have you ever been to a game before? or for that matter, have you ever actually been out? I realised this was a dumb post virtually the moment I sent it - off to get my coat...
JustMike Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 I realised this was a dumb post virtually the moment I sent it - off to get my coat... that'll learn ya ;-)
Mattio Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 Ahh Half Term is upon us... Also the reds in COYR is a lot easier to get echoing around than saints
Seaside Saint 2 Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 In honour of Cortese we should start calling ourselves the Bianco-rossi, that really rolls off the tongue:rolleyes:
The9 Posted 6 April, 2010 Posted 6 April, 2010 What is going to happen when we wear the white shirts next season? Can't get my head around common you whites!!! People will ignore it and still sing "reds", just as they still chant "YELLOWS" when we play in navy shirts this season.
