Can we add charlton back to the mix?

On 77 and they have got Exeter (a) Leeds (h) Oldham (a)

long shot i know but if they only pick up a point from those 3 and we win all of ours they we will be above them on GD

don't think so tbh, i'm not looking any further than Hudds'

they will pick up 2pts from those fixtures.

Updated following the dramatic 1-0 win at Yeovil with 10 men & a late late goal created by 2 supersubs! A massive ask still (of course) - but the fat old bird isn't singing just yet!

;)

Maybe you could add Charlton into the mix, If they lose all their games and we win ours we could take them on goal difference!!

Think we can. Let's face it their next two opponents have plenty to play for so 2 points from those two are not going to be straight forward.

Regarding Charlton, stranger things have happened.

Their last 3 games are far from easy, it's possible they will only get a point.

If we do manage to win our remaining games one point for them won't be enough - maybe Huddersfield's results are not all that matters

maybe's if's but's

When Colchester go to Huddersfield, they require the already relegated Stockport to have taken something from Huddersfield. Otherwise Colchesters season is over and they have nothing to play for.

Well maybe the might up their game to help Saints. On current form I don't expect many aspiring L1 teams will want the Saints in their league next year!!

Can see Charlton losing at Exeter who need the points,Losing at home to Leeds and then the pressure would really be on in the last game as long as we don't slip up.Gillingham will be a very difficult game for us.

Can see Swindon losing to Wycombe as they have need to win to have a chance of staying up and have won their last 3 games and Millwall away. With the pressure on could they mess up to Brentford at home?

I have had this sneaking feeling that Huddersfield will not win at Stockport. All logic says they should but Stockport will be playing for pride and its a lancashire/yorkshire derby.Colchester will need to win at Huddersfield and Exeter away is tough especially if they need a result. So you never know.

Hopefully one of these 3 sides will bottle it.We will need maximum points to have a chance however.

Is it written in the stars like last time we made the play offs beating a relegated Southend on the last day of the season?

I think one of them will bottle it but what really worries me is will we be in a position to take advantage? I honestly cannot see us winning every game. I am almost certain we will draw\lose one the most likely being Gillingham away!

I really do hope I am totally wrong!

Amazingly only Norwich, Huddersfield and Saints won from the top 11 teams this weekend. It certainly is squeaky bum time up at the top isn't it? We may be the only team with the guts to pull off a 100% finishing streak. Who would want to play us if we managed that?

Shame about Morgan though. We're probably without him for a few games. Then Pardew will have to consider how he brings him back in. Is it fair for him to step back in while his replacement moves aside and misses the playoffs? We might have no choice as he's in our best XI.

Points needed to get into 6th place over since 2000/2001:

00/01 - 75 points

01/02 - 78 points

02/03 - 81 points

03/04 - 73 points

04/05 - 71 points

05/06 - 71 points

06/07 - 75 points

07/08 - 76 points

08/09 - 76 points

All of which proves nothing.

Apart from if we do win all our games we'll be on 78 points with (probably) the 2nd best goal difference in the division. In 8 out of the last 9 years, that would be enough for a playoff place.

Fingers crossed (at least) one of Swindon, Charlton or Huddersfield really lose their nerve.

Exeter away is tough, Leeds at home is tough. It's conceiveable that if we do our job they could go into the final game needing a result.

Did the predictor earlier, put it like this:

I think that's a distinct possibility tbh, Charlton have got 3 tricky games coming up, as do Huddersfield, and we're on fire at the moment.

It's easy to sit at a computer and type in Saints to win all their remaining games and Huddersfield and Charlton to lose all of theirs, and I don't think that will happen. I can only see Charlton getting 1 point against Oldham or Exeter however, and I don't think that Huddersfield will win more than one of their remaining games, but I doubt they'll lose either of the other two either. If we did win our remaining games (fingers crossed), we'd see something like what i've posted above. I'd be happy with that! :D

That would surely be the ultimate "f*ck you" from Pardew to Charlton!

Not true Colchester will have to make up a little goal difference but could swing it back in their favour IF they beat Huddersfield.

Of course we want all this to fall into our hands, but with the pressure off they may go to Huddersfield and win anyway!!

I still think they will lose against Stockport, Beat Colchester, and draw at Exeter!

Also if we do go to the end of the season without losing another game we will have beaten a club record with a win at Gillingham of winning 7 games in a row!! 8 if we go on to beat Southend!!

Not bad, I have a terrible feeling with Saints that we will draw one of the remaining games, and at one stage thought that would be today..... but on we march!!

Football league show saying its all over for us. Please let us show them up!!

Would be awesome if we could prove EVERYONE wrong.

You look back at all these late surge stories - Palace being the main one - WE could be one of the ones that people look back at and say "well Saints did it, why can't we?".

If it really does end up being Millwall, Swindon, Huddersfield & us in the play-offs - I'm not gonna have any fingernails left come the actual play-off games...and there's a good chance I'll have a coronary along the way! Jeez - as if we haven't been through enough this past year or so eh.

I've just done it too and got the same - Charlton do seem to have the toughest run-in and (according to a Charlton supporter I know) playing some shocking football at the moment - so it's all eyes on us to win these last 4 :D

A little goal difference, what's that 1, or 2 not feckin 8. Huddersfield go to Stockport, the absolutely worst team in the league and I expect the goal difference will be even bigger after that, Colchester have virtually no chance. You have more chance of Charlton losing all their games the way things are going, all getting close to lotterey odds. I want Saints to go up as much as anyone, it does not mean you have to convert to the village idiot to get that prospect some reality.

Charlton have Exeter away next, who themselves have everything to play for to stay in this league. Not an easy pitch to play on, as we well know.

The Addicks then face Leeds at the Valley, followed by Oldham away on the last day.

If Saints manage to win their remaining games and Charlton can only muster 1 point from these 3 then we would be in the play-offs.

Here's hoping.

What Saints should be doing is "leaking information that we will be sending Scouts to look at a couple of Stockport players".

I think Duncan mentioned at the start of the season that we were interested in a couple of their younger players.

And I also believe we will be looking improve some of our backup players in the summer, i.e. we are short in central midfield, right back and centre halves (Perry legs are gone, Jaidi is slow at turning etc).

Tell these player's agents that Saints are interested and they have a choice of playing L2 football next season or producing a performance that suggested they can make the step up to playing for Saints.

I think Charlton will lose to Exeter, draw with Leeds and lose to Oldham.

As long as we keep on winning that will put us up to 5th above Huddersfield and Charlton on goal difference.

Can't help thinking we will out luck Huddersfield just like we did in the 1965/66 promotion year. The other team we just beat to promotion that year also started with a "C", like Charlton.

Edge of the seat stuff or what.

SOUTHAMPTON: Charlton (H), Bristol Rovers (A), Yeovil (A), Oldham (H), Carlisle (H), Gillingham (A), Southend (H).

We should beat Charlton as we've got the beating of them, likewise we've got the beating of Bristol Rovers, the other homes are against poor L1 teams so if we're focussed we'll beat them. It's Yeovil and Gillingham that look decidedly tricky to me. Both of these teams fans will view us a Derby (a bit like the Plymouth yokels) and as such will hype this fixture up and it'll be like a cup final for them. They are both also good home teams used to playing at their compact little grounds with their dodgy pitches.

I stick by my original opinion, Gillingham is the toughie.
