Crab Lungs Posted 13 April, 2010 Share Posted 13 April, 2010 (edited) Ok, I couldn't help myself... I've just done the predictor again. I've envisaged Huddesfield only slipping up once, versus Millwall this friday (D 2-2). I've only had Charlton pick up 1 point from their next 3 (Norwich (H), Exeter (A), Leeds (H)...) By those calculations, the table of the final day would look like this: So, going into the last day we would have potentially shots at getting a playoff berth, assuming either one of those teams lose. The fixtures for the final day: Exeter v Huddersfield (Tisdale would wanna do us a favour despite nothing to play for, surely!?) Oldham v Charlton (Oldham safe.... Hmmmm) Saints v Southend (Southend just out of the drop zone - might still have a bit of fight left so could be difficult) Hmmmmm. Hmmmm. Damn Huddersfield clawing it back tonight. Disregard the goal difference - I put in Saints to win 3-0 v Carlisle when I really meant 1-0. So, only +41 Edited 13 April, 2010 by Crab Lungs
adysaint Posted 13 April, 2010 Share Posted 13 April, 2010 TBF dotcom, I'd get rid of MK Dons max 71pts and a minus goal difference. Its only in the realms of mathematical improbability...

Rasiak-9- Posted 13 April, 2010 Share Posted 13 April, 2010 One positive thing we can say IF Huddersfield even draw against Millwall on Friday THEN IT IS IN OUR HANDS TO FORCE THIS INTO A FINAL DAY now that should definately inspire all our players

More than possible Of course, Saints need to win every match, but I believe we have the desire Yep, Huddersfield need 8 from 12 points, ie 3 wins or 2 wins and 2 draws, due to our way superior goal difference and that is only if Saints win all 5 remaining games. Th odds are longer than the Great Escape and what a finish that was. The Everton game is the only time I've ever watched Saints with certainty in my mind that we would win. WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 14 April, 2010 Share Posted 14 April, 2010 Huddersfield game against Millwall will be crucial imo.Millwall are top of the current form table over the last 8 games just infront of us.Hopefully Millwall can win or at least get a draw. I can see Huddersfield losing at Exeter and maybe only drawing against Colchester. Then I have this strong vibe that the will co*k it up against Stockport.I predicted them losing to Brentford last week.Their away form is suspect,Stockport will want to finish on a high and will have no pressure in that game and its a yorkshire/lancashire derby type game.Yes Huddersfield are expected to win this game and will be strong favourites like they are for 6th place but there will probably be a major surprise result so Stockport might be it!? I think Huddersfield will drop enough points. Are we good enough to take advantage? If Gillingham lose at home to Leeds on Saturday they are likely to need to beat us to stay up.Likewise Southend could still have a chance last game of the season of staying up making that game potentially more difficult. Charlton could lose all 4 games. All their games are tough.Colchester may draw or lose at Hartlepool on sat.Hartlepool have won 4 out of their last 5 home matches.Even Tranmere & Orient at home are banana skins with both of them battling relegation. There are no easy games left for any side imo.If we approach one game at a time and don't get complacent we just might make it.
Highfield Saint Posted 14 April, 2010 Share Posted 14 April, 2010 If Huddersfield lose on Friday and we win on Sat and Tues we will be t 2 points behind them. If we win the last 3 then they have to as well which thet won't. Basically if Hdfield lose against Millwall it is in our hands. Come on the Wall. Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 15 April, 2010 Share Posted 15 April, 2010 In my twisted little world, I can see Millwall doing us a favour by beating Huddersfield and then us, having sneaked into the playoffs, thanking Millwall by dumping them out of the playoffs in the 2 leg semi-finals. Charlie Wayman Posted 15 April, 2010 Share Posted 15 April, 2010 Chances are Millwall who are safely in the play-offs will not bother against Huddersfield simply because they'd fancy their chances against them in the play-offs more than they'd fancy playing Saints. So the best strategy for Millwall will be to make sure Saints don't get there and they can do that easily by letting Huddersfield win. I'd say it's 95% certain Huddersfeld will win 2-0 or 3-0 on Friday for this reason - of course nobody could ever prove it was fixed - so don't bother staying up late to catch the score. RonManager Posted 15 April, 2010 Share Posted 15 April, 2010 I think that after a frenetic and heart-stopping last day, coming down to an almighty contraversial incident in injury time in one of the other matches, we will find ourselves in 6th place. I think we will win the JPT Trophy - beating Carlisle in the final. I think we will get past Ipswich as we will raise our game. This will show the players just how well they can play and trigger our run to the play-offs. I will not predict how far we will get in the FA Cup as I don't know who we will draw in Round 5. .comsaint Posted 16 April, 2010 Author Share Posted 16 April, 2010 Updated Friday night following the Huddersfield v Millwall game. Terrible result really but remember it can only take a freak referee-assisted result like we had at Tranmere away to turn Huddersfield over. Then it becomes 5pts from 2 games and it's a different proposition. As before, we just need to keep winning, keep chasing down Colchester and we'll take it from there. At best, we'll sneak in. At worst, we get a fantastic pre-pre season.
eharty9 Posted 17 April, 2010 Share Posted 17 April, 2010 providing we win all of our games which we will need to do anyway, and colchester lose today, that is them out of the equation, however they can still do us the biggest favor by beating huddersfield! tell you what though most exciting run in to a season for a while! without the worry of being relegated if we don't reach our goal! Torrent Of Abuse Posted 17 April, 2010 Share Posted 17 April, 2010 I guess timing of results is all important. Matthew Le God Posted 17 April, 2010 Share Posted 17 April, 2010 And we can catch Charlton am I right in thinking that? Yep, Swindon and Charlton can both in theory be caught due to Saints having a much better goal difference. But only if they get no more than 1 point from the next 4 games and Saints win all 5 games. Charlton do have a tricky set of fixtures(including Norwich and Leeds) so may be possible but very much clutching at straws.
