Saints V Orient Post Match Reaction Thread

St Landrew

I think the direct quote was "Alpine, Glasgow Saint and fat Stu Romsey Saint stick that in your pipe and smoke it".

Don't shoot the messenger. I did almost drive off the M271 when I heard it. Probably 99% of the listeners had no idea what it was about.

Bizarre.

I would love to know when I have ever expressed the wish for Saints to lose

I am not sure you have but it is your general negativity and tedency to look on the downside of everything that has built you a reputation. Take this post match thread - no comment on the result but you suddenly appear at the slightest hint that the players may have been out on the p*** - any opportunity to have a dig. To quote Strachan, "down negative man, down".

Just thought I'd say that Hammond was actually alright, it was Schneiderlin that was poor, he gave them the ball back a countless number of times. He looked a shadow of his former self. Anyway, Lallana saved our bacon today.

Btw Lambert was ok, played quite a few good passes, but looked knackered and lacked appetite it seemed.

In one crner in the second half he had three Orient players marking him he was surronded. Our side still punted it straight at him though](*,)

Lambert seemed to be limping slightly towards the end - hopefully nothing.

This thread was opened very late. I expressed my reaction to the result on the match thread straight after the final whistle.

My reputation isnt enhanced when so many are ready to jump to conclusions, is it ?

I guess we just have to go home happy that it was job done. They did enough, just, and sometimes you just have to take that and be grateful. And as others have said, this was the sort of game we'd normally lose, so I'm just going to let this one pass. Onwards & upwards - the Charlton game will be a totally different affair

It was quite amusing to see Lambert being put in a sleeper hold at several throw-ins, yet did not get one free kick.

Happens every game though....

What about Scowcroft in the first half just leaning over when he felt a hand on his back and the ref giving him a freekick every single time! Did my head in.

we sounded dreadful......really

I hope it looked better for those who watched it...

oh well, a win is a win...and well happy

just hope 'uddersfield lose

will probably have to play better to beat charlton and rovers..

it really wasn't great viewing tbf, painful at times.

but it's good to win games ''like that'' - esp. after coming from behind, shows the team has a bit of grit about them.

And they have all been negative - and unecessarily so to boot ?

I feel sorry for people who object to any post or person that dares to be less than gushing in its praise for the team.

We were f**king awful today, and everyone knows it.

Talk about over-reacting, anyone really surprised by the reaction on here?

They had pretty much 1 shot for the entire 2nd half and we were "lucky to win"?

How does that work?!

We had an off day today. Too many players not involved in the game. But that being said we still had more chances then they did and always looked like the team more likely to win.

They got an early goal and then mass defended. How many times have we seen that over the previous seasons and come away with nothing?

We showed character to come back from behind and if Puncheon had taken his chances it would of been a bigger gap.

What get's me is the team battle hard and win games and some slate them for it.

Your never going to play every game like we have for majority of this season. We have played far better then that and still lost.

The negativity by the crowd did not help matters. People need to get a grip and actually support the team ffs. Some of you are doing the whole moan when we lose, moan when we draw and moan when we win thing. The performances do not matter, what matters is we are not playing too well but still grinding out the results. That is something we have not seen at this club in a long long time. I would much rather we play **** and win then play amazing and get beat, especially at this part of the season!

We weren't fecking awful today. A few players weren't at their best but we had our moments, Lallana was magnificent and we won.

Your reputation would be much enhanced if you only posted your sweeping condemnations on matches you actually attended.

We were below par, that is for sure but to put it into context, compared to some matches last season when we were genuinely f**king awful, we were not f**king awful today. Incidentally I don't see how "everyone knows it" when the "everyone" you refer to, including yourself weren't actually there.

No reason to get upset today though. To quote you from the build up thread

+1. Couldnt give a sh*t about the score or manner of performance.

Can't comment on the performance from so far away - but a win is a win!

What really matters is that WE all pull together for the next game - and another 3-points against Charlton. Huddersfield appear to be in the driving seat now and I bet all of their fns will fancy 3-points against Oldham. This is almost a derby game - can't be more than 20-miles between the cities!

Will Oldham upset Huddersfield's momentum? I don't think so - but stranger things have happened.

Just look at a game at a time - and then not worry about the other games until after the final whistle...looking more and more unlikely - once the top 5 hit 78-points there's only room for someone to make a mess of it and we might sneak in!

We can't expect to win every game - equally we can't expect someone top buckle under pressure - can we?

See you all next week against Charlton - see Blocks 1/2 & 3 not open yet!

Agree completely, very pleased we ground out a result.

But we did play sh*t, there is no reason to pretend otherwise. We need this sorted out for next Saturday. Pretending we werent sh*t doesnt help that.

However, pointing it out appears to send certain people on here into a fit of hysteria.

Under par performance. Morgan Semi and Puncheon all out of sorts.

We were there for the taking today, fortunately AL saved the day.

I have criticised AL on a few occasions, but that is due to my frustration that he could play the way he did today more often. Well done Adam more of that football please.

Kelvin saved us 2 points with his brilliant 1 handed save. i was right in line and I was certain the ball was going in the top corner until KD saved.

Motm AL not that there was much to beat to be fair

ps I also heard the text re Alps GS and Stu. I dont understand why on this occasion Stu got stick!!

No we weren't great today **** might be a bit harsh but below par for sure. Actually I think we will player better against Charlton. I might be the only one but I think our team prefer the bigger games they seem to relish the tougher ones. At the moment Charlton have failed to beat us this season twice so we will see.

whats going on with puncheon recently? Club rosso too much of a lure to most, and the casino upstairs.........

He is the most left footed right winger I have ever seen - playing him there is a bit like having Sydenham on the wrong wing.

I can't understand people moaning about Puncheon. Yeah, he had a couple of dodgy moments but he also showed moments of quality. If he played at 100% every game without fail he would be playing for a top Championship side because he is much better than League One standard.

He played a great ball in to Waigo for the equaliser on Thursday and when we got the ball to him in dangerous positions today he looked dangerous.

I concede that his corners weren't great though!

Similar to WGS playing Fernandes on wrong side.It worked s he did set up the second goal. I dont think they swapped flanks today like they do normally.

Was anyone else impressed by Orients long throw ins? I don't know which player it was but he must be league ones version of Delap. Normally punting it out for a throw in is a safe bet for a defender under pressure but in this case it just gave Orient more chances to get it in the box.

How many times have we, in the past, played people off the park only to come away from the game with diddly? 3 pts is all that matters at this stage of the season. Although I am slightly concerned about our current playing form. Even in the JPT we were not exceptional.

All in my honest opinion of course.

Did you see the match Alpine? Have you ever wondered that perhaps people are getting together and posting on here that we were poor just to wind you up - and that we have been brilliant? ;)

Why do we need to sort it out? You seem to be very happy with things so long as we win so what is your probelm with being poor again and winning???

His throws were good and caused problems.

Semi was woeful today but I thought Seabourne played well, in a no nonsense old fashioned CB style.

Too often in the past we've lost games like this where results need to be ground out so whilst I was disappointed in the performance after so many outstanding ones at SMS this season, I'm relieved to actually see us grind a result out.

Exactly.

Orient were excellent in the air at the front and the back. Any Saints team in the last few years would have lost the physical battle and this match. We completely ran the first half. Unfortunately we didn't score early enough to get another before half-time and the second half was a bit nervy, albeit caused by punts in to our box rather than us being outplayed. All the same, there was not a single point in the match when I thought we would not win. It wasn't champagne but no one is every week.

So you want us to grind out a result no matter what. We do that and you change the goalposts? Why not just say we should be champions league material and then you can moan all you like? Yes, that's why people dislike you - because you're not only negative but dull, very dull. Nothing inciteful from you just moaning as usual. By the way I'm not really sure why you care - you gave up on the playoffs around about the Exeter draw so surely anything closer (to the playoffs) is a result? Oh but it's you isn't it? The perennial dull one who just enjoys moaning.......
