SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 1 April, 2010 Share Posted 1 April, 2010 Of course... ...just as we are all writing off our chances, Colchester, Huddersfield and Charlton could all give us back hope tomorrow by losing or at least drawing. * I had predicted Colchester getting 80 points until they drew with Brentford, leaving them heading for 78 points. Draw with Wycombe and they will be on track for only 76 points. * Huddersfield could be on track for only 76 points anyway or 75 if they lose to Wycombe! * Charlton are on track for about 78. Lose to MK Dons and that reduces to 77. If these are right then we can still go up after tonights result. By winning every game we would get 78 points. Winning all but one and drawing that other one would yield 76 points and it would be too close to call!!! Of course, no-one expects that - I think we all know that in reality the game has been up for a couple of weeks... it's just that that vague possibility is a killer!!! ALWAYS_SFC Posted 1 April, 2010 Share Posted 1 April, 2010 8 points from 7th, 11 points from 6th. Bristol Rovers and MK Dons catchable but really have to hope now that Huddersfield and Colchester slip up badly for us to reach the play offs. I keep on telling myself that we have left it too late but as long as it stays mathematically possible I keep on hoping, even if it is becoming more feint as each game ticks by. Lets face it after the start we made and the 10 point deduction it was always gonna be a challenge to reach the playoffs. It annoys me so much that many people on here probably dont actually bother going to any games yet always have to have a go and that includes a fair few people i know so if you dont go to games I dont really think you have the right to moan. Provided Huddersfield and Colchester fail to pick up points keeping us at bay. i really think it's over now, well tbh it was over weeks ago - i'm just enjoying the rest of the season now. I think we can get a maximum of 76 points now, and we'll need ''at least'' that to even stand a chance. So we need to win every single game and hope that the teams above us collapse, it really isn't going to happen now. it's still a great to be even talking about having a chance though, none of us expected it! WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 1 April, 2010 Share Posted 1 April, 2010 This was our toughest game left imo and the late point could be the point that gets us a play off spot.Unlikely now but if we can beat both Leyton Orient and Charlton at home we can then see how many slip ups our rivals make as they all have difficult games and we would have a game in hand again

Arrrrgghhh... why am I finding this Season so hard. I've really enjoyed it not even expecting promotion this season but then I get frustrated that we have got so close but we're still so far. .comsaint Posted 1 April, 2010 Share Posted 1 April, 2010 AP nearly got the result he deserved. Aw c'mon dune. Pardew & the boys gave us all a fantastic day out on Sunday & made us all very proud Saints fans again. I would imagine that he was partly hoping that Sunday would carry over to tonight in no small way. As it happens - it didn't really. But he changed things when the going got tough & the team eeked out a point against an in-form Brighton. With hindsight - I bet Pards would go 4-4-2 with Papa & Barnard from the start if he could turn the clock back a couple of hours. This season was always going to be 'dip your toe in to unknown territory' for us. Next season will be a head-long dive straight in!

richardc Posted 1 April, 2010 Share Posted 1 April, 2010 just back from the game and for 70 mins we were crap totally devoid of ideas going forward and resorted to the long ball game which was obvious everytime and Brighton had us sown up. puncheon looked completely lost up front and we had nothing in the middle of midfield although Hammond was putting himself about alot, as he was booed every time he got the ball. Jaidi was imperious in defence and all the defence played well. Brighton knocked it about well and could have been 2 or 3 up at halftime. Was getting really ****ed off with Pardew for not changing things about which he eventually did and we were a different team all over them and could have finished it off. Barnard was superb when he came on and first attack on the ground and he scored. Seabourne looked good playing football out of defence. We are not going to get promoted on this form lets hope it was a hangover from sunday

You make it sound like we only have to play 4-4-2 to automatically win every game! Brighton are no fools. saints-cris Posted 1 April, 2010 Share Posted 1 April, 2010 Just got back in, had to sit in the home end, but rest assured when we equalised i did get up and blurt out 'get the f*ck in you f*cking beauty!!' to a few iffy looks. By no means did we play well, at all, but we still got a point against one of the form sides of the league. The most annoying thing about tonight is that played our game and were better at it. We jus didnt try to pass til the last 10 mins of the game. Hit it to lambert was all we did really. Barnard definately should have started tonight he looked really lively, and the ref was ****. Kelvin - 7 - Fairly faultless Ostemobor - Could have perhaps stopped the cross for the second Jaidi - 7 - Bullied Murray off the pitch Fonte - 7 - Was okay, think hes played better Harding - 6 - Didnt get forward at all Lallana - 6 - Pretty quiet tbh Hammond - 7 - Got his goal he clearly wanted, ran alot. Faded in and out Wotton - 6 - Average at best Puncheon - 7 - Really worked hard, just didnt seem to have the options Lambert - 7 - Won every header, didnt do anything wrong Antonio - 6 - Wasnt quite his day, not the right service for him Papa - 6 - Made a difference and got the assist (i think?), but nothing major Seabourne - 6 - Not the same arial powerhouse Jaidi is Barnard - 7 - Made all the difference, ran, harried, scored. Well bloody done Couldnt give anyone an 8 as we have played so much better than that. Season has been over for a while, but hey might as well try n enjoy the rest of the season. Under Weststand Posted 1 April, 2010 Share Posted 1 April, 2010 Disappointing result & performance, I just don't know why with all the decent ball players we have in the side that we seem to resort to the long ball game far to frequently for me. Now I know that there are going to be times when we need to use it, but with the players we have surely its better to play it on the deck? Still the play-offs are tantalisingly within mathematical reach, but realistically its going to have to be promotion next year.

I just got back from sitting in with the home fans!! have you any idea how hard that is?? I love AP and hate seeing the descenters on here, but playing 4-5-1 was just lack of bottle I'm sorry to say. All season we've heard how Rickie needs a rest! Why then did he give him the lone strikers role tonight when we had Barnard itching to play? Whats going to change over the summer to enable us to do that if the manager keeps playing so negatively ? I understand where you are coming from but I'm not sure any of us know what the real answer is, we were from October through December getting wins away from home even if pitches were poorer than we are used to playing on at home in fixtures away such as Southend, Oldham, Bristol Rovers, Hartlepool, Northampton, and Walsall, some of these in atrocious weather. The team without the January additions was strong enough for these wins under Pardews team selection so he was getting things right. With the additional strengthening from January onwards we should maybe have been building on these wins and pushing further than we have managed so far. Pardew is still in the first season of building a great team for the future and no doubt he will know he has made mistakes along the way as individual members of the team probably have too. As earlier results away from home have proved before during October - December it can't just be Pardew and it can't be just the players performance but somewhere between they need to find the balance they had back then and keep it. It may be too late for this season but there shouldn't be any excuses for the next with the performances we know they are capable of, from Pardew and right through the team where even a negative looking formation next season can be a positive and match winning one. I beleive we have the right Manager and he is building the right team to get us back up. It's frustrating we have the set backs and expectations have risen but I think the main reason for my own frustration of not getting promoted is the good work that Pardew has done so far to have even given us the hope that we could bounce back after this season let alone winning a Trophy on the way. For the moment though I think we are enjoying the early fruits of success even if what we would like now is more frustrating and taking longer than we may have thought. I just don't think AP excpects the midifield to achieve much without Morgan so he is looking for other options. It didn't work tonight but we still got a point at a tough away game, in most seasons that would be a good result just not this season (we didn't lose though)
