dune Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Did anyone else have the pleasure of visiting this gem of an area? I needed a slash on the way back from central London and had to get off the N18 nightbus here around 3 am. I'm not exagerating when I say I was scared and I genuinely thought I was going to get mugged or stabbed.
alehouseboys Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I've heard visitors say similar things regarding St Marys. We love it tho!

KK the 2nd Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 You were right to feel uncomfortable. Harlesden is known as London's Yardies' Backyard and when I worked in this area (albeit some time ago) it had more murders per capita than any other community in Britain.
SoccerMom Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Stayed in Harlesden with an old mate on Sat night. He advised us to leave nothing, not even a plastic bag, in view in the car. He also never leaves his door open or even slightly ajar, so that no one can see anything that is left in the hall. that being said, he's been there for over twenty years and has raised four kids. If it was that bad, he'd have left by now. Oh, yeah, and when we were walking back, folks came out of their houses and congratulated us, which was nice.
bowers-sfc Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 we parked at aplerton, and it was really like walking through india! not being racist, but it was very hard to spot a white british person, and everyone looked at us as if we had killed there family and were ready to stab us, then some jumped up chav trying to sell us sweetcorn, in a full orange tracksuit with his hood up, playing gangster music? quite amusin
Thedelldays Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I used to live in North London..and some of the areas are just nasty I am amazed how so many people who come over to this country can afford to rent/buy/live in the area when you can see they dont have much money

Harlseden is a totally different kettle of fish, probably the scariest place I've been too.

At the bust stop one came up to me and asked for a light. I told him to keep it as i'd got a spare one.

benjii Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 You could have done what the fella on my train did on Saturday night and **** in a bin.
bowers-sfc Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 ohh yer, and when i went into the garage in alperton, i was surprised at the glass screens pretecting the workers, was like bein in a bankk
dune Posted 29 March, 2010 Author Posted 29 March, 2010 Or maybe i wasn't that desperate for a slash as i walked by the local night club complete with gang stood outside. I just kept thinking about how David Niven walked when being surrounded by the boxers in 55days days at Peeking.

Cabrone Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I can remember a friend of mine telling me that the KFC in Harlseden served him food through a perspex hatch......mind you that was a good 10 years ago so maybe it's changed.
The Banana Factor Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 The KFCs that open late anywhere in London serve through hatches or through screens, its to stop all the drunken working class people attacking them on Friday and Saturday night.

Thank heavens for the civility of Watford !
