Suhari Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, with XP on it. All works fine. Have tried to install a webcam, but I cannot get the laptop to 'see' it. This happens: Install webcam software Webcam software tells me to plug in webcam, but then sits there without seeing the webcam. Meanwhile, a dialogue box opens telling me Windows is trying to install a new USB device, and do I want to do it automatically etc If I try installing the webcam via the windows dialogue box I get no joy....device not recognised or some such No matter which USB port I plug into, I get the same result; and other devices (already installed on the laptop) work in all USB ports. I have tried a new webcam, with same outcome. The webcam does install on other machines. I am now getting seriously ****ed off. Any advice welcomed.
saint_stevo Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Start-Run-compmgmt.msc What do you see in Device Manager exactly?
Suhari Posted 30 March, 2010 Author Posted 30 March, 2010 Start-Run-compmgmt.msc What do you see in Device Manager exactly? Nothing unusual in Device Manager; no yellow circles, questions marks etc. Do you need more detail than that? I am guessing somne kind of driver issue; bt all drivers are up to date and direct from the Dell site.
Suhari Posted 4 April, 2010 Author Posted 4 April, 2010 Bump for any advice. Really ****ing me off now!
Whitey Grandad Posted 4 April, 2010 Posted 4 April, 2010 When you say 'new webcam', is it from the same manufacturer with the same software or another one? BTW, each usb port has to have a driver installed for it for the same plug-in device.
