What would you do?

I would buy this house

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-16185076.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=buy&mam_disp=true

Reckon I could get it for £1.5m, would probably spend £250k doing a few extra bits to it, I would want a pool, sauna and steam room.

I'd spend £500k on cars too, with a nice sports car as well as a top of the range Range Rover or Audi Q7.

That would leave me with £2.75m. I would invest this into a bank account which would give me a rate in the region of 6.50% (I'm sure you could get better). This works out (before tax) at £178.5k p.a interest which I would more than confortably live off. I'd employ a full time maid/cook too to run around after me.

I would certainly retire now. Sod working for another 40 years! If inflation got to the point where my money wasnt worth a great deal sat in the bank, I would probably return to work then but for the time being I would happily live like a king!

I would buy sex. Let's face it, I'm an ugly bastard and my missus is with me out of sympathy I'm sure. I could do with a couple of high class hookers to lighten up my evenings. :-)

Failing that, I would buy one of those cow-milking machines, and strap it to my willeh.

That's not that great a salary you know, considering the house and upkeep of your cars plus staff.

£178k a year is £14k a month, after tax you'd be left with about £11k a month.

Your cook/maid would require at least £1k a month, I should imagine insurance on your vehicles would added up to a 3 or 4k a month if you want to spend £500k on cars, upkeep on the house would be about £1k a month with fuel bills and other utilities etc (big house) which leaves you about £5k a month to live a millionaires lifestyle. You'll soon be spanking that on bits of equipment, and then realise that you're monthly salary isnt quite what you expected, and end up constantly dipping into your savings, which constantly reduces your monthly interest "salary".

Your cook/maid would require at least £1k a month,Fair point I should imagine insurance on your vehicles would added up to a 3k or 4k a month I would be surprised if insurance on a top Range Rover is more than £2k a year, the top sports car would be different yes, but I wouldnt have thought at maximum it would be £20k p.a? if you want to spend £500k on cars, upkeep on the house would be about £1k a month with fuel bills and other utilities etc (big house) Fuel bills will not amount to that much, Oil (as im pretty sure that is what is required to heat the property as my parents live a few doors down) plus electric wont cost near on £1k a month?! I guess if you include food, telephone, sky, council tax, water etc etc, then yes £1k is about right which leaves you about £5k a month to live a millionaires lifestyle. You'll soon be spanking that on bits of equipment, and then realise that you're monthly salary isnt quite what you expected, and end up constantly dipping into your savings, which constantly reduces your monthly interest "salary".

If you base the car insurances on £2k per month, house keeper at £1k per month, cost of house keeping and food etc £1k per month then that leaves me with £7k per month. Yes there will be one off's where I would spend £x here and have to use 'next months' interest to cover it, but equally, there maybe months where I am travelling through outer Mongolia and spending 13p per day so its swings and roundabouts.

Do you actually know where that is? Very close to Wickham Golf Course, just far enough away from the Cities and town's (Southampton, Fareham & Portsmouth) yet not too far you cant get to any.

I would live there over most places in Hampshire any day of the week.

Why do you think its a crap location?

Fareham cinema is a lot less (believe it or not) skanky than Odeon or Leisure world. Last time I went to either, they were horrific. Popcorn and spilt drinks everywhere.

I dont often go to Pompey but its the ability to get there more so than the desire. For example, getting to the hospital. It is easier to get to Pompey (yes I am fully aware of the added risks in catching something from a hospital in skatesville).

5 million quid? do up this crappy house in cov, sell it. And fook off to Malta, get a flat there. After a year I would come back and buy a place in Southampton and spend my days going between the two. Regarding living on interest. I could easily live on 70k interst p.a, let alone 170 odd. So not a problem.

Maybe you should consider Blazingsmoke (or just outside..) Old Basing??... would fit all your criteria

The house is on Titchfield Lane near the Wickham and opposite the golf course, it's on a busy-ish road which has got 30 limits which everyone ignores and is clogged at weekends with old people going to all the nurseries. ****e location, if you ever have the fortune to have £1.5M (mind you if you have £2M+ i can show you some amazing houses) to spend get in contact with me and i'll show you some decent property that does'nt look like it was designed by a footballers wife.

The house is on Titchfield Lane near the Wickham and opposite the golf course correct, it's on a busy-ish road not correct which has got 30 limits not correct which everyone ignores and is clogged at weekends not correct with old people going to all the nurseries. ****e location

The house is on Titchfield Lane yes. And you rightly state that its opposite the golf course. However, the speed limits up until about 1 year ago were National Speed limit and are now 40 mph. It is only 30 mph going from Titchfield Mill toward Wickham up until the motorway bridge as soon as you pass the first lot of nurseries which is about 1 mile before this house. The roads are not bad, but yes some people do tend to drive along them quite quickly.

Different strokes for different folkes, I just happen to like the place. Its set in a nice woodlandy kind of area too.

All my criteria?

I merely answered the question someone asked of me why I would want to go to Pompey? I stated that the Hospital is closer to where I live as opposed to going into Soton.

I like it around here as I was born here. I lived in Thornhill, then Sarisbury Green then Wickham. Its a nice area and is a half way between the countryside and civilization which is what I like.

I get the impression Basingstoke is more of a city

Your answer stated the cinema was the bestest... you'll be hard pushed to find a cinema this side of Haselmere better than the one in Festival Place in t'Smoke

Whats good about it?

Trivial really as im a bit of a knock of nigel when it comes to films now so dont tend to go to the cinema unless the film is a 'must see in cinema' film and I cant get a decent copy of it.

Must be me then, i use the road 4 or 5 times at the weekend and it's always clogged with OAP's driving bloody slowly (i may have mistyped the speed limit as yes it is 40 not 30), but the house has no privacy as it's front door is only about 25 meters from the road; for £1.5M you can get better. Oh and it backs onto a load of houses in Biddenfield lane which are owned by undesiribles.

Having lived on that road for 3 years in the house which is probably the closest to the road (front door to road is only about 2 metres!) having a house 25 metres from the road would be a luxury!

I must have driven down that road over a thousand times and have never really had any problems.

From your name, would I be right in thinking you're from Swanmore then?
