rick1976.4.38 Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 green man b4 and green man after, great day in there and of course wembley
Viking Warrior Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 was in green man after a game for a fair while. I spoke breifly with one guy who asked if I was on the saints forum I said yes and he said he was we asked each others user names He jokingly said Stu of Romsey I wasnt convinced, He didnt seem pervy enough to be the real SOR. Stu did you speak to me I was the one with thepainted stripes on my face?
THINWHITEDUKE Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 We pre-booked our coach into the green man, and were there at 8.20 nice to have a drink in quiet surroundings knowing what was to come! Took a while for the atmos to get going then it all just came together. Abso brilliant atmos from about 11 onwards. All i all a very good quality day out. Just one question tho, did anyone see what was occurring outside Silverspoons at 8 in the morning? some sort of afro/carribean bbq as party goers were leaving said club and oddly not one drunken person in sight altho some of the girls in their hotpants gave us all on the coach an eyeful!!
Viking Warrior Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Who were the two saints fans who came in in head to foot costumes, with red army on the back. Good to see some of the bar staff in their wearing saints wembley T shirts and scarves

Stu did you speak to me I was the one with thepainted stripes on my face? I don't think so. My colours where a fetching black Lyle and Scott coat. I was battered trying to work my way through the 25 free pints the landlord gave me, so I might have done.
MarkSFC Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Went to Silverspoons as was meeting people coming from different parts of the country so seemed good option last week. How wrong was I?!!! I wrongly imagined a well run and spacious club feel based on the COYR website advert. For a rennet entry I was paying for the "promised" plenty of bars and extra staff. They had three bars in the main part with only three people serving at each, so they had 9 people to serve potentially two thousand people! You do the math! They did open a cans bar but ran out within an hour!! The music was ok a bit of a mix for all ages but poorly DJ'd. The sound level was too loud because it didn't really get fans singing! They also said in their website that did was available and I didn't see any! And they also said on the tickets that ex-players would be in attendance. Although this wasn't my reason for going in there I didn't see one nor were any introduced, at least between 1030 and 1240 when I was in there! Another very bad illingsworth event!!!! BUT all of the above made no difference to my day, it was a brilliant day to be a Saints fan, had brilliant seats 50 yards from ML and NC, spent the day drinking (slowly!!) with mates and even though my train was delayed for an hour on the way home. seeing Saints fans take over Waterloo was great! Getting off the first train into Waterloo in the morning and everyone singing was a spine tingling moment for me! I was wondering what the staff and police were thinking!! Amazing day, amazing atmoshphere, and hopefully the first of many trips to Wembley!!! just don't go to Silverspoons or any COYR event!!!!
Give it to Ron Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 JJ moons before and after the game, 1st people in there at 09.00, packed but service was good, Yep me too....before and after. Good atmosphere, doorman were brilliant let us all in with the kids. Never waited more than 10 minutes to get served.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Before the game I went to Smiths on Smithfields for breakfast in Farringdon. Afterwards was in the Sports Bar at Marylebone.
krissyboy31 Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Went to an Irish bar by Wembley Central. Sacrificed a bit of atmosphere for being able to get served (was full but not packed). Guinness was a little disappointing for an Irish bar though.
GenevaSaint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Went to "More Spice" next to the stadium, had to walk past it to get to SilverSpoons. Reasonable atmosphere, decent bar, served straight away everytime, 2 minute walk to turnstile. Happy Days,
The Rover Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I enjoyed the Green Man which is where our coach parked as well. As the coach was organised on a break even basis it was only £10 a ticket too. Can't really understand how some so called Saints supporters could live with themselves for charging £20 a ticket. Must have been making £500 profit per coach out of fellow fans.
Norm Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Had a 'Big Value' breakfast in Asda, washed down with a sweet cup of tea. Funny thing is, I didn't have to pay £10 to get in! £10 to get into a pub......:butthead: Well done to the organisers;)
Sparky_Mark Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 seeing Saints fans take over Waterloo was great! Getting off the first train into Waterloo in the morning and everyone singing was a spine tingling moment for me! I was wondering what the staff and police were thinking!! Amazing day, amazing atmoshphere, and hopefully the first of many trips to Wembley!!! massively agree about getting off of the 1st train at wembley the atmosphere was just amazing and waterloo was completely overtaken by red and white, the police and staff couldnt have known what had hit them superb day out!
dune Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Next time choose a pub without a ****ing hill. On a serious note it was a good venue, well organised etc. Was feeling a bit ropey after the night before but a few double vodkas soon did the trick.
ianthesaint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 After reading this thread, makes me realise how lucky I am I didn't walk up that hill to the green man.
Shroppie Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Ended up in somewhere called, IIRC, Thirsty Eddie's, basically cos everywhere else was full by the time we got there. Not bad, good humoured singing, quick to get beer. After game went back to Euston (from which trains to my obscure part of the world run, and also run to Carlisle ). A guy recommended a place called the Bree Louise for a good pint, and he wasn't wrong. If you like your real ale, it's great - 16 to choose from. Also do a beer takeaway for the train. Pretty quiet, beings as it was mainly Carlisle, but very friendly. Nothing but congratulations from their fans.

The second coach was £13 a head as we used a skate company. I charged £20 a head... woopee do, after paying someone £50 to look after the second coach and giving a few free spaces away, as well as leaving a couple of seats on each coach empty... there was a couple of hundred quid profit in it. Which I gladly pocketed for organising it. Diddums... if you knew how many hours goes in to organising the coaches, you wouldnt begrudge the profit.
StuRomseySaint Posted 29 March, 2010 Author Posted 29 March, 2010 After reading this thread, makes me realise how lucky I am I didn't walk up that hill to the green man. Why? This thread clearly show's it was a good venue.

I would be heavily annoyed if I had been on that coach and you had made £200 profit. You could have put the price down on peoples coach fares or supplied beer for the coach rather keeping the money yourself. Hiring a coach and running it is hardly brain science, not really much effort really, just send out one email, get people to post you the money or bank trasnfer, then one big email to everyone confirming the time of leaving.
Durleyfos Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 The Green Man was very good. DJ was a bit crap though.
ianthesaint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Why? This thread clearly show's it was a good venue. I go to every England home game and normally really enjoy it as all my friends from England games drink together, I prefer a quiet pub off the track with a good few lads enjoying a good drink up, not a pub full of morons singing, football singing is for the ground not a pub.

LOL... if only it was that easy. There is 106 people to get money off... bearing in mind alot of them are mates... so not a case of first come, first served, not by bank transfer because it doesnt work like that, not everyone has email and alot of people on the coaches are friends of friends etc... You have people stalling for money, people dropping out at the last minute, names changing etc... and our coach departure changing at the last minute because of the police. So no.... it is not as simple and chucking out a quick email... And I couldnt give a toss if people got annoyed with me for making some money on it... infact nobody begrudged me. My mates all on coach 1 was run almost at cost... the second coach was run at profit but was not my close mates so couldnt give a toss. Nice free day out for me... I was intending on spending the profit on beers for the day, but the landlord of the Green Man giving me vouchers for 25 pints meant I still have it in my pocket. Happy Days  Edited 29 March, 2010 by StuRomseySaint

dune Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 There's a difference between making a few quid out of something that most people couldn't be arsed with doing and organising an event with the prime motivation being to make a profit. Stu's bus versus Silverspoons illustrates this point perfectly. Personally I wouldn't want the hassle for the sake of a hundred quid or so.

Stu's bus versus Silverspoons illustrates this point perfectly. Personally I wouldn't want the hassle for the sake of a hundred quid or so. What Dune said. Having been involved with running things like Saturday footie sides, it's a pain in the ar$e getting some tightwads to part with three quid for subs that keep a club going.... So, with that in mind, fair play to him. In my experience people who take a step forward for others are few and far between.

Stu's bus versus Silverspoons illustrates this point perfectly. Personally I wouldn't want the hassle for the sake of a hundred quid or so. Exactly... he is just a moaning git... blah blah blah... He is also stupid, because not only do you have to get all the tickets etc.. you still have to work during the day, getting everyone on the coaches, then off and on the coaches at Fleet, then back on the coaches at the end of the day and again at various services on the way home. Now you try getting 53 absolutely smashed lads onto a coach after 12 hours drinking... Travel Club was £25, my coaches were £20... and included you got parking in the Green Man and half of the pub sectioned off for them when we arrived to speed up service. BARGAIN...
LA77 Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 The best way to have a free day out with no hassle was to lump on Lambert for 1st goal and Saints to win at 4/5. If someone organises coaches/pick up points/money etc etc, then it's fair enough if they earn out of it.

Norm Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Stu, I owe you an apology! I'm the one that needs to go to Specsavers, as I got you mixed up over the Silverspoons and the Green Man pubs. This just cost me £5 (membership) to apologise. I'm now off to hide in a darkened room.

saint_stevo Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 fair play to Stu IMO Must have been a good crack with a coach load of mates, and i no i wouldn't have wanted to organise it. Our coach got back to Lowford at 8pm....bit rough

Brilliant day and great win, COME ON!!!!
Saint Keith Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 i have little recollection of much of the evening :drinkers: remember being around leicester square about 7, there was loads of singing happening. and some **** nicking my programme in o'neills, what a ******

The Rover Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Nothing rickety about the coach I was on Stu. I'm surprised that an astute man like your gooodself would pay a coach company £880 (50 x £17) to hire a coach. Sorry if I upset your sensitivities but you do seem to enjoy banging on about making money out of your fellow Saints fans which does seem a little distasteful. Perhaps you'd feel better in yourself if you gave half to a recognised charity?
NickG Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 another one Green Man - both before and after. Great atmosphere.

Sorry if I upset your sensitivities but you do seem to enjoy banging on about making money out of your fellow Saints fans which does seem a little distasteful. Perhaps you'd feel better in yourself if you gave half to a recognised charity? It was actually more than that... that was my bad for booking a Southampton coach company who not only bumped the prices up, but also charged £200 for LEZ and I let them keep the £50 for the parking they had included in the price that we didnt need. I am thinking about sending coaches on a much more regular basis... at a profit of course. I already have one booked for Gillingham last game of the season, I might even run a second. Profit margin? £5 a head, £250 profit. Might even run 2 coaches. Couldn't give a monkeys what anyone things, my mates are grateful that I put the effort in and charged them £5 less than the official travel club. My coaches are cheaper than the Travel Club, I might even make it more full-time and run one to every game... and yes... it will be for a profit. Oh.... and it will be alot more succesful than Silverspoons and other Saints Trust venture , I also won't go in the papers claiming that I am 'doing it for the fans' ... I won't be, I'll be doing it for the profit. Oh, and our Luzborough House passengers were given more time in the pub than the other coaches in the Green Man, as we were the first 3 coaches in ( apart from the Coopers bangbus ) and we were by far the last 3 coaches to leave... sometimes you have to go the extra mile for your passengers. Edited 29 March, 2010 by StuRomseySaint
ladysaint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 JJ Moon was good and cheap didnt have to wait too long to get served even when packed, they limited the number of people in there and had queues outside to get in, no complaints.
harwellsaint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 So where was all the pre-match atmosphere? Green Man was quality, good atmosphere, plenty of places to get a beer, nice food etc... I heard Silverspoons was a let-down? Lots of people in the Green Man who had left there. What other places did people head to? green man was tops!

Johnny Bognor Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Went here... http://www.alisan.co.uk/location/index.html Just opposite the stadium. It only took 30 seconds to get served in the bar upstairs and there was a fantastic view of wembley.

Dalek2003 Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I was going to stick the bloke behinds me flag up his arse and start waving the c*nt around at one point... On a good note, I was in the back row of four rows of our group, so I didnt have any flag waving mongs directly in front of me. What is wrong with flag waving ?
