CB Fry Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 Now if it is on 25 minutes then there's an answer there. The big boards showed Markus, big cheers... The big boards then show Cortese and the cheers suddenly stop and I genuinely think that is misconstrude as being boos. Yes there was the odd boo here and there but nowhere near on the scale some people think on here. Later on it became, at the end it became more pantomime and you can write that off as just high jinks... But your are absolutely right, he needed to know that Pardew is the man and that he needs to give him some space. Surely he's smart enough to learn from the Lowe lessons: The chairman's important, but not as important as the manager... Learn from it Nicola, and move on.... Typical arrogance as usual from you - what "scale" do the rest of us think it was at then? Because everyone is wrong except you. The only people who are wrong are the people hopping from foot to foot pretending there were no boos/Sky made it all up/its was towards Mawhinney/it was silence misconstrued as boos (?)/etc/etc. There were boos in the ground when Cortese was on the big screen. That's all anyone has ever said - the theorising and waffle has come from people pretending it didn't happen. It did happen. Loud enough for me and lots of people around me to say "what are they booing for". It was nothing major but it did happen. Why people on here are desperate to pretend it didn't is just maddening. And no, it definitely wasn't "silence misconstrued as boos", whatever the f uc k that's supposed to mean. That's it.

You could of raised a thread about what a great day etc but chose to bing up the fact a few hundred if it was that many out of a crowd of 50k boo'ed. Shock horror some Saints fans are numpties....what do you want to happen now everyone to bow down and apologise wear sack cloth and ashes? I have read and heard nothing but praise for our fans yet you and others on here want to make this a big issue it wasn't. I was there and didnt hear any boos for Cortese that doesn't mean there weren't any just I didn't hear any but did for Mawhinney because I was one of them..

Give it to Ron Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 What is negative in not being happy the country heard some of our own boo our own chairman..? So what....have you ever known any club have fans totally behind their club? Man Utd, Chelsea (sacking the Chosen One), Liverpool, Newcastle, Bolton even Leicester fans were complaining about Pearson last season. Even the skates have a pink and purple protest hahahaha. I think Sky and the media would of told the country why they were booing.
saint-ross Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 Boos loud and clear form block 552. These were very much aimed at NC, it was obvious. i didnt know there were any mexican waves going on at this time. certainly not from our side. I dont see why this comes as any surprise tbh. There are always going to be people who feel NC's comments were too harsh, just as there are those who saw them as positive.

I thought that at the time and I still think it. It wasn't and isn't a big deal but it was odd. The only thing that is a big deal is people contorting about pretending actually it didn't happen at all which is frankly bizarre. You can see how many bullsh it rumours end up on here when you can actually read people lying through their teeth just to make some lame-ass point to make themselves superior to other fans. "Silence misconstrued as boos". "It was all at Mawhinney". "Sky made it up". This thread isn't about booing Cortese anymore. So why get all uptight about what the country thinks who cares what some fan in Leeds, Sunderland or Hartlepool think they have enough of their own issues? I agree it may have been a stupid thing to do but can understand why some did - in fact when I was in the pub before the game some bloke started saying that he didn't trust Cortese and was concerned about him and that Pardew problem was worrying. Personally we just need to accept Pardew is under pressure to deliver but Cortese also needs to accept football is like no other business and it takes time.
Thedelldays Posted 30 March, 2010 Author Posted 30 March, 2010 I'm not really uptight about it. Just pointed it out the ones uptight are those who are desperate to tell us it never happened. Throw in the odd insult for good measure was on the bill too

Err - it's the people falling over themselves to make out it didn't happen that are "getting uptight" and "worrying what some fan in Sunderland thinks". Some idiot fans did it. They are idiots. End of discussion. It's those pretending that it never happened, no way, not never that are stringing this out.

Pat from Poole Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 I have to say I would be surprised if Cortese was here for the long-term. He's a pretty effective operator and I'm sure that bigger outfits will be having their eye on him as a potential CEO. Unfortunately we'll probably only really know how good he actually is if and when he goes and how significantly it impacts on us.

He's a pretty effective operator and I'm sure that bigger outfits will be having their eye on him as a potential CEO. Unfortunately we'll probably only really know how good he actually is if and when he goes and how significantly it impacts on us. You may be right, but according to Cortese, Saints are his baby. He wouldn't be a chairman of a football club if Saints hadn't become available for Liebherr to purchase, and I'm not sure he has the same motivation to be a chairman of a football club elsewhere. Besides, I don't feel it's worth anticipating too far into the future while we're thoroughly enjoying the present.
1976_Child Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 Not that I heard anything but anyone who booed Cortese is a C.U.N.T. End of. Grow up.

If anyone's arrogant around here it's you, at what stage have I told anyone what the truth is? I've simply put my opinion across, something that you obviously have a problem with. If you have a problem with me then say it to my face... I won't hold my breath. It's not exactly your style to say things to people's face is it? Much safer to do it from behind a pc screen isn't it? Quite how you get.... This thread isn't about booing Cortese anymore. It's about the tide of bull crap that is paraded out on this forum by people desperate to seem influential and desperate to swear black is white just to win an argument. from all of this is beyond me. How the feck would anyone appear "Influential" arguing the toss about some non event like people perceived as booing on tv?? Influential? Are you some sort of idiot? If anyone wants to appear "Influential or important on a frigging messageboard then it's you... Seriously, how utterly frigging pathetic.... Getting all hysterical on the perceived booing of a chairman at a game? Nine pages of bed wetting rubbish... This is just like your utterly frigging pathetic shouting down of people on here who felt that throwing money at League One isn't a sure fire way to overcome a 10 point deduction and gain promotion, but as usual you just show your grasp of football is based on Championship manager/Fantasy football manager and a few smartarse quips whilst posting on a matchday. It's all about opinions, you obviously have a problem with people, ie me, giving theirs. Fine, I'm not going to lose sleep because some nerd acquires some balls whilst behind a pc screen but please don't come on here spouting all sorts of elitist nonsense about people trying to appear important on a frigging messageboard. It's a 'tinternet messageboard, not the centre of the universe you sad little man... Obviously you feel the need to exert yourself, be important. Carry on, knock yourself out. I just can't shake off the impression of you running around like a hysterical 13 year girl, getting all prissy about an argument about people booing at a football game... Booing at a football game... Jesus H Christ, how fecking lame... I just find you a little bit pathetic... Now grab your handbag and feck off...

There definitely WAS booing when NC came on screen - I was surprised and a little bit annoyed when it happened - but it was just small pockets and not a major protest. Chances are that NC didn`t even hear it. Quite why he has become a bit of a "Pantomime Villain" to certain sections of the crowd, I am not sure. May be a few ill judged or "out of context" remarks about expectations and AP`s performance, but these do not outweigh the good things and positivity that he and ML have bought to the club. Some people are never satisfied!!

I was thinking the same thing. If the boo'ing was that vocal and noticable then surly there is someone on here that either boo'd or knows someone that boo'd NC. Would be nice to know why they did it (if they did)

It's There Posted 31 March, 2010 Posted 31 March, 2010 OK..to sort this out once and for all- Poll Please Mods! "If you booed, who was it against? a) Malwhinney b) Cortese c) someone else d) The fans that didn't join in the mexican wave. FYI, as I've stated, I booed when Malwhinney was introducing himself to the players This should end this argument!

sadoldgit Posted 31 March, 2010 Posted 31 March, 2010 God knows there have been enough threads about other things just as "important". For example, even though George Burley left a long time ago and we hve had 4 managers since then you can bet your bottom dollar that someone on here will drag him up again for some spurious reason. Cortese is still relatively new here and people aren't sure what to make of him. He hasn't had the best start what with his childish spat with the Echo and his unfortnate lack of nous when dealing with the press. Hopefully he will learn from these mistakes. The last thing we need is anothre arrogant "non-footballing" CEO with no idea about the media
Saint-scooby Posted 31 March, 2010 Posted 31 March, 2010 The second time he came up on the screen I thought he was holding back a few tears ?

He has pulled us up to play-off contenders desipte -10 points and a sh*te first 10 games, and won us our first silverware in 34 years. I couldnt give a sh*t about his management of the press, I do care about his management of the club. That is what is important. The last thing we need is anothre arrogant "non-footballing" CEO with no idea about the media Hopefully he will continue to treat the self-important tw*ts of the media with the contempt that they sometimes deserve. I trust that the local hacks and their friends higher up the feeding chain of vultures and other assorted carrion have got the message; if they wish to have access to inside news about their local club, it is a two way street. They scratch our backs and we'll scratch theirs. Cortese has nothing either to apologise for, or to feel contrite about, either in the way that he handles the media, or indeed in his expectations about how the club should be run. How does your assertion in your last sentence fit against a background of what we do need? Would you for example trade in our chief executive and by proxy his billionaire friend for somebody else whose relations with the media were impeccable, but his financial wealth was distinctly lacking? Regrettably, the chairman for most of the past decade was defficient on both counts. As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy to give our chief executive quite a degree of latitude because of what he has already done to turn around our fortunes in just under a year. If others wish to be critical, they ought to consider what the alernative could be without Liebherr and Cortese before opening their mouths.
alpine_saint Posted 1 April, 2010 Posted 1 April, 2010 I'm not really uptight about it. Just pointed it out the ones uptight are those who are desperate to tell us it never happened. Throw in the odd insult for good measure was on the bill too Although I consider this thread unecessary and frivolous, your assessment of how it has unfolded is spot-on. The usual suspects demonstrating their usual intolerance and foot-stamping....
alpine_saint Posted 1 April, 2010 Posted 1 April, 2010 Why do you bother posting on here? Every time I see a 'contribution' from you on any topic it degenerates into abuse..... Do you just like arguing? Oh, the irony.....

Do you just like arguing? In case you had not noticed, this is a forum. In other words, it is a place for people to express their opinions. Now, you might not agree with the opinions of other posters, but do you therefore challenge their right to express them on here? In any event perhaps you could kindly assure us that you know the difference between what constitutes argument and what is debate? Rolley-eye thing for you too.

As a rule of thumb I would go for anything that eminates from Daren is an arguement. 90% of his posts seem to be arguments with 19C who delights in winding him up and the remainder are arguments (not debates) with CB Fry.

INFLUENCED.COM Posted 1 April, 2010 Posted 1 April, 2010 This is like an arguement between Charles Manson and Ted Bundy

aintforever Posted 1 April, 2010 Posted 1 April, 2010 If Cortese was booed then he does need to have a rethink about his approach to PR. The spat with the Echo was pointless and didn't do anyone any good, whilst the Samual article was harsh, Cortese did give him all the ammo to use.
