Gingeletiss Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 This thread is embarassing. Really the lowest. Today should be a day for celebration and uniting. Instead we have Saints fans abusing each other and giving it the big "I am". :-( Ha.........this from the one poster, who feels he has to abuse others, every time he loses an argument. You Alps, are a WUM of the highest order. You that fool Saint Stevo and a certain so called Saint from Glasgow. Trolls, indeed sir, you all are in my book. Every thread that degenerates into argument, seems to be tainted by you three.

Gingeletiss Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Dulldays, this is no longer about who booed who, it's more about the trolls being on here 1 day after a great day out in the capital, with posts aimed at causing rifts in the fan base. Those I mentioned are all guilty as charged, you are just the ringleader.

trousers Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I've just found out from a reliable source that Cortese's nickname at school was 'boo'...something to do with him having a girl's name and the other lads trying to make out he was a bit of a girl's blouse when they shouted 'boo!' at him. Whilst initially derogatory, it stuck as a nckname and evolved into a term of endearment over the years. So, it turns out there were simply a few "in the knows" in the crowd who shouted "boo" when he appeared on the screen as a mark of respect. At least we'll all know to join in next time. Thread can be closed now we've cleared that one up.
saint_stevo Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Taken me off ignore then Gingeletiss? After i was going to ruin the Pinnacle bid by posting a picture eh..........good job! I haven't moaned on this thread, just reporting (as others have) that i heard the boo's, not a matter of opinion, i heard it, and others in my block have said on this thread they heard it as well....

dune Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 tbf, i bet that if DD hadn't started this one, someone else would have. All the real fans were still in London.
saint_stevo Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 All the real fans were still in London. I was. HTH
Thedelldays Posted 29 March, 2010 Author Posted 29 March, 2010 I was. HTH this is where he says I was not...but then I guess that would mean no one who was in London heard the booing..oh wait a mo.. NO, I did not go...work dictates it...never mind, my choice to be in the armed forces which mean I miss out on important saints games.. I missed out in 2003 as I had just finished taking part in a war and this time I was required to be in plymouth I had given my customer number away (after someone else on here had already given me a spare so me and a pal could go..thank you, you know who you are) giving customer numbers away and even giving tickets away for nothing is not a first from me...but then, I am a crap fan

Those I mentioned are all guilty as charged, you are just the ringleader. Lol Said as if you ever have something important to say ?? I must admit, i never really missed your absence ginge. I didn't hear the boos yesterday but i was up in the wembley seats block 205 and so couldn't really hear too much, also screaming and jumping up and down and winding up the carlisle corperates as well as eying the carlisle wags, and some of them were serious fanny !!!!! Shame if we did boo Cortese, seems some fans are truely never happy, they're excuse at times is........ well we nearly didn't have a football club last year etc etc and then turn on the one man that made that happen and for once has some serious ambition. well done morons.
stmusicdude Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Utterly Bonkers.... To be fair think the last thing anyone could ever say about Alps is that he has any agenda & tries to cause issues & friction re NC on this board. In fact if any thing it's the opposite . FWIW I didnt hear any booing at all, but that dosent mean there wasnt any but ffs what does it matter now?

Winning silverware clearly doesnt agree with you. You've managed to make a complete tool of yourself by interpreting something I wrote 180deg off the mark, and you have been slagging off me and several others ever since. Why dont you have a nap or something ?
Whitey Grandad Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 im not stirring things up...just making an observation on something the whole country saw Let's get this straight... What you see on television bears no relation to the experience of being there. As far as the sound goes there are a couple of microphones for crowd effects and these are mixed with the commentators. If they someone next to a commentator makes a noise then all those watching will hear it. I have watched the recording and I didn't hear any boos, just indifference. You cannot infer from what the tv presents you that the whole crowd is dooing, or singing, or whatever, and you certainly can't draw conclusions from what you think you hear on the tele. From the reports of those of us who were fortunate enough to be at the game there appears to have been very little booing anywhere at any time and what little there was cannot be directly attributed to Cortese appearing on the scoreboards.

In essense i agree totally with you, however your arguement has one major flaw!! How do you explain those SAINTS FANS THAT WERE CHALLENGED BY OTHER SAINTS FANS FOR BOOING CORTESE that were at the match and had to turn around and ask those fellow Saints fans why they were booing him??? Oh and their pathetic response was along the lines "....because we think he's a knob" Get used to it, our club is no different to every other club, we have an element of idiots just like all the others.
Fowllyd Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Exactly - I was in 546 up in the gods, when ML was shown on the big screen the guy in front of me stood up and started singing his name. As soon as the picture changed to NC he not only started booing but giving him the 'v's as well. I could plainly hear other people booing as well, although it was not the 'overwhelming' sound and it did cease pretty quickly. This booing and that associated to the wave were not interlinked and happened some time apart. Like TDD, I couldn't work out why and found it slightly embarrasing. Well, I'd guess that the chap in question either (a) thought that Cortese was Carlisle's chairman, as the focus on him followed immediately from a close-up of Marcus; or (b) has something against Cortese for some reason. To be honest, it sounds more like the former to me - cheer your own owner, abuse the other team's...
Pat from Poole Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 The only person I booed was Malwhinney!! Too right. What a despicable turd, how he had the nerve to show up was beyond me.

I will then divide by 55,000 and multiple by 100 to derive the percentage of Saints fans that booed Cortese. Thanks

Jesus Reigned Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I was booing Mawhinney when his name was announced during the pre-match meet and greet, as were the people with me in block 248; if Cortese happened to be on the big screen at the same time it may have sounded like some were booing him when they weren't.

Jesus Reigned Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 why were people cheering malwhinney then about 3 seconds before hand..? Something must have been lost in translation I think, or they were Carlisle fans; what reason would any Saints fan have to cheer him?!
Thedelldays Posted 29 March, 2010 Author Posted 29 March, 2010 Something must have been lost in translation I think, or they were Carlisle fans; what reason would any Saints fan have to cheer him?! maybe it was because markus was on the big screen and it moved over to NC and some people boo'd....
Psycrow Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I see Alpine Saint and Dulldays are mischief making again. Did you even read the whole thread? They're on opposite sides of the argument more or less.
Jesus Reigned Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 maybe it was because markus was on the big screen and it moved over to NC and some people boo'd.... I'm not saying that it's impossible that some Saints fans may have booed Cortese, as I can't speak for anyone other than myself and those in my immediate vicinity, but I am saying that many of the audible boos on the telly are likely to have been aimed at Mawhinney rather than him.
Thedelldays Posted 29 March, 2010 Author Posted 29 March, 2010 Did you even read the whole thread? They're on opposite sides of the argument more or less. of course he never read the thread... if some else had posted the very same OP as me...the reaction would have completely different

There was nothing else happening in the stadium that would have resulted in simultaneous booing. And no, it was not Mawhinney, unless you seriously think more Saints fans cheered Mawhinney than booed him, because the cheers and boos where seconds apart. Funnily enough in those seconds Markus, then Cortese were on the big screen. I turned to my mates, and the other people around me, all of which said words to the tune of "what are they booing him for" and such like. And remember Mawhinney got booed when they said his name, which was before that. He got his boos. Christ almighty. It happened. Get over it.

Thousands? cheers

And trousers, no idea on numbers, enough
CB Fry Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 How many booed him? I appreciate that "it's not the point, one is bad enogh"...but for all those who heard it I am genuinely interested in how many (educated guess based on proximity and volume) 10? 500? Thousands? cheers Difficult to say really, it was certainly enough to be clearly heard amongst 70,000 football fans. Was probably a few hundred - it's worth mentioning the atmosphere was pretty disjointed all afternoon - the singers being spread around the place meaning songs didn't really take off except in little clusters. So in that context, a collective noise like a boo must have been from a not insignificant number. But it was nothing like a majority of fans. It was, frankly, just a bit strange and not really worth dwelling on. Just ridiculous people on here pretending it didn't happen and that Sky or TDD is making it up. But then we had the same smart arses pretending the Echo made up the trouble in the car showroom after the pompey game "to sell papers" so I'm not surprised.
trousers Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Cheers. So roughly 0.5% of Saints fans. Still sad despite the small number. On that we can all agree I would venture.
Johnny Shearer Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Much as I disagree with TDD views at times there was booing at the game when Cortese appeared on the big screen and it was stupid imo. Big cheers for ML and then a sudden, almost silence for a split second when Cortese appeared on the screen with boos following but getting overtaken by cheers. Sat in block 247 and could hear all that.
Quickfire Double Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Well, I'd guess that the chap in question either (a) thought that Cortese was Carlisle's chairman, as the focus on him followed immediately from a close-up of Marcus; or (b) has something against Cortese for some reason. To be honest, it sounds more like the former to me - cheer your own owner, abuse the other team's... a) Could have been a factor: you'd have expected the cameras to cut from our owner to theirs and a bit of auto-pilot booing may have occured on that basis then drowned out when folk realised it was NC. It wasn't in sync with the announcement of Mawhinney. I booed that 'C', and was surprised to be the only one in 536 who did, so far as I could hear.
Daren W Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Ok, I'm watching the game again, for the third time, at what time were these boo's?
trousers Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Ok, I'm watching the game again, for the third time, at what time were these boo's? before the start I believe....at around the same time Malwhiney walked onto the pitch....
Ash Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 I am a fully functioning adult male. On Sunday I got up, tied my own shoe laces and drove myself to London without crashing once! While there I heard some people booing as Cortese was shown on the big screen. Unfortunately I am so monumentally thick that I am unable to decide for myself whether or not people were booing him or booing many of the other things going on around me. There were lots of balloons and shiny things after all so I was easily distracted. Thank goodness for the internet and people prepared to tell me what was happening around me. What great guys.
once_bitterne Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 Ok, I'm watching the game again, for the third time, at what time were these boo's? Bang on the 25 min mark. Definatly nothing to do with Mahwinny as he was only shown when the players were being introduced and way before the second half Mexican wave. NC was def booed. It did seem more pantomime villain than anything but if it makes him realise that all he fans are solidly behind Pardew then maybe it did more good than harm?
Daren W Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 before the start I believe....at around the same time Malwhiney walked onto the pitch.... Well ffs there's your answer mate! The tv can't capture two images at once live. If the booing was that early it was definitely for Malwhiney, I booed the bastard for crying out loud. The only other occasion was when the big screen showed Leibherr and then Cortese, we started cheering and then stopped. Now that could be misconstrude as being boos. The impression I got was that it was party atmosphere, a bit pantomime. Yes there were a few boos but it was in jest, a bit of pantomime banter, I don't believe for a second there was any intent or malice in it. We were all just having a laugh!

Now if it is on 25 minutes then there's an answer there. The big boards showed Markus, big cheers... The big boards then show Cortese and the cheers suddenly stop and I genuinely think that is misconstrude as being boos. Yes there was the odd boo here and there but nowhere near on the scale some people think on here. Later on it became, at the end it became more pantomime and you can write that off as just high jinks... But your are absolutely right, he needed to know that Pardew is the man and that he needs to give him some space. Surely he's smart enough to learn from the Lowe lessons: The chairman's important, but not as important as the manager... Learn from it Nicola, and move on....
once_bitterne Posted 30 March, 2010 Posted 30 March, 2010 Now if it is on 25 minutes then there's an answer there. The big boards showed Markus, big cheers... There were more than a few boos tho I noticed it in the stadium at the time before reading this thread and watching the recording of the game later that evening. No big deal tbh, personally I wouldn't have booed him but if it gives him idea about just how unpopular decision not giving AP more time would be then maybe it didn't do any harm.
