redandwhitebill Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 There were (deserved) boos for Mawhinney, but definite boos for cortese were discernable from a section of fans. Totally counterproductive, why today? I dont have a problem with those who disagree with him but today was not the day to publicly direct those sentiments in his direction
Psycrow Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 I think there might be a few apologies owed to TDD here today. Not for people who didn't hear booing and didn't know it happened, but from the people who simply disbelieve it because TDD brought it up and the accusations that he only did so to cause trouble. I watched it on TV. I heard it. I thought the same thing as TDD thought. Even before Sky even mentioned it, I thought to myself that I couldn't believe they were booing NC. To be fair to Sky when they brought it up, no one said the word "booing", they simply said he was getting a distinctly cooler reception than ML got. It wasn't until HT and FT that the so called trouble between NC and AP was mentioned.
trousers Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 46,000 Saints fans cheered Cortese. c.17 lumpheads booed him. I know, let's start a thread about it.
ottery st mary Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Not trying to be pedantic about numbers..trousers old boy.......But when the cheers rang round the ground for Coretese..I counted over 51,000 Saints showing their adulation for a truly great legend...and of course for ML and Pards....
trousers Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Not trying to be pedantic about numbers..trousers old boy.......But when the cheers rang round the ground for Coretese..I counted over 51,000 Saints showing their adulation for a truly great legend...and of course for ML and Pards.... yeah, sorry...I lost count of those supporting cortese - my apologies! ;-)
The Rover Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 it was boos for him...markus was on the big screen and everyone was cheering, when the camera move over to NC you could hear plenty of boos already, some are turning on him it seems...pathetic I didn't hear anything other than cheers. If anyone did boo they would fall under the category of being totally moronic w*nkers in my book. Without Liebherr and Cortese there would be no Saints at all never mind day trips to Wembley.
Fowllyd Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 No it wasn't I was in block 130 and didn't hear any booing so it wasn't clear all around the ground. Now in fairness I didn't see any Mexican waves either. Likewise from block 131 - heard no booing at all. I did see the odd attempt at a Mexican wave, but it just seemed to peter out.
speculator Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 What is wrong with booing Cortese - Just telling him to calm down a bit I would have thought. The boos for Cortese were clearly audible but done in fairly muted way so some fans could let Cortese know that his apparent lack of backing or unreanonable expectations of the team were out of kilter with some of the fans opinion - as you suggest. MLT on Talk Sport on the way home said that we could go up next season without adding to the squad provided the CEO doesn't do something stupid and decide a change of manager is required. I thought his comments in the programme were also more dream land than realistic aspiration regarding what makes a top 6 Premiership club and the Barcelona comparison and if that is what he truly believes is achievable at our club then I fear no one will live up to his expectation. I think a message to reign in is sights and criticisms is well over due and I congratulate those who felt a modest message was required.
speculator Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Heard nowt where I was in 233. Probably because you were on the A233.
VectisSaint Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Just got back, there were no boos for NC, the boos were for Mawhinney (should have been more boos for the Tory **** given his reaction when we went into Admin) and for the Mexican wave. Anyone who thinks there were boos aimed at Nicola is simply having a laugh and attempting to stir up the ****.

Daren W Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 [/color] No it wasn't I was in block 130 and didn't hear any booing so it wasn't clear all around the ground. Now in fairness I didn't see any Mexican waves either. Block 128 and I didn't hear the boos either.... But then again I wasn't looking for them...
saintkiptanui Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 nice work...NOTYou're as bad st the fat c*nt tw*ts that wind you up on sunday morning, ylu stupid c*nt. We wont the cup, we won the cup, eeee iii addddeeee ooooo we wn the cup.:smt038
Psycrow Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 there was plenty of booze where i was He's here all week, try the beef
LeBenali Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 I asked a group of lads behind me why they were booing and they said they just assumed it was the Carlisle chairman. Numptys. I think this may have been part of the problem, presuming that after showing ML that they'd show the Carlisle chairman, when infact it was NC. Definitely booing in 140 though, but drowned out by the cheers.
once_bitterne Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Block 128 and I didn't hear the boos either.... But then again I wasn't looking for them... In fairness it is difficult to look for a sound....
Tac-tics Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 In block 525 some blokes was booing him from towards the back. There was definately boo's. Remember, no Nicola, no Markus.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 I heard no boos in block 524, we just booed when Carlisle buggered up the Mexican wave. I did!!!! Booing the mexican wave made me lol:smt038
once_bitterne Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Not sure why people keep mentioning the Mexican wave, it was nothing to do with that. The wave was in the second half, this incident was in the first half. The big screen in the ground zoomed in on Markus and there as a big cheer, then moved to Cortese who wad cheered but quite a few loud boos too. I would guess these were more pantomime villain boos from the sort of people who watch Big Brother where nowadays everyone gets booed on eviction and/or people who are falling for the Hammer supporting journalists blatent attempt to get Pardew back to Upton Park by unsettlng him in his position at Saints...
saintkiptanui Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Why don't you c*nts shut the f*ck up, we won the cup.:smt038
Block 5 Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Why don't you c*nts shut the f*ck up, we won the cup.:smt038 +1.
westofshannonsaint Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 I thought that Sky switched microphones to reinforce the fact that they don't like/trust NC. all afternoon they banged on about his relationship with AP, lifting quotes from weeks ago when most of us thought the playoffs were out of reach. but I suppose if there is no news - invent some, surely a league 1 club cant have a a good football manager, a chairman who pushes him to succeed along with a wealthy owner - willing to invest. It's a F*ckin great time to be a SAINT
tombletomble Posted 28 March, 2010 Posted 28 March, 2010 Maybe there were boos when NC came on the screen, where I was in block 127 though I heard only cheers every time his face appeared on the screens. I really don;t believe that enough people where booing NC to make it auidable on the TV. Even if did happen before the game started I know that I could hear nothing but cheers every time he was on the screen the whole way through the match and the cheer both he and ML recieved at the end of the game was massive and seemed to be from all parts of the ground. Slightly more impotantly, we've just won a cup! Who cares.
SaintBobby Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 FFS. there's more posts on this thread than the "Saints 4 Carlisle 1 Reaction" thread. And now you've made me add to it. Get a grip, people!
labibs Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Definitely didn't hear any boos for NC at all today. Block 547, upper tier. (justified) boos for Mahwhinney, but that was it. Massive cheers for both NC and ML when they were on the big screen after the match. Could well be that there was an isolated pocket of booing within the ground that I wasn't aware of, but sounds like a touch of scaremongering to me...
SaintRobbie Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Cortese is setting a high standard and holding his manager accountable for his actions. But, he's no fool. This is a man with desire and ambition, striving for success and that includes not just promotion but expanding the club towards a huge stadium. The difference between him and Lowe is he has the financial backing and the ambition. Pardew will be here for a while yet. But, nothing wrong with keeping the managers ambition focussed. I am loving the latest set up. It has desire and ambition running top to bottom unlike the last regime of eejits.
Foxstone Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 There were a few boos, but not sure whether it was for him or just a coincidence Thought it was a co-incidence too! Some around me thought it was the Carlisle chairman !
Red and White Army Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 TDD boring pointless negative thread while being utterly wrong shocker.
slickmick Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Right. Let's clear this up. The only boos I heard from 535 before the match started were for the Mahwinney slimeball. Only cheers for NC. Same in block 232 Cortese was not the one being booed.
brightspark Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I heard the boos. WTF do they think they are doing? Mindless tw*ts. This guy pours his heart and soul into the job and thats what some stupid minority of fans give him? If I was there, I would genuinely have told the pr1cks to shut the f**k up.
St_Tel49 Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 It happened when the ten other people on this thread said it happened. Pre match - Markus on screen - cheers, moved to Nicola - Boos. It happened. Not alledged, nothing to do with Mahwinney or Mexican waves. It happened, pretty clear all round the ground. It may have happened but it was not clear all round the ground. I could not hear it in 501. Anyway - how do you know it was clear all round the ground? - were you everywhere at once!!!?
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 If true then ist`s pathetic... in fact those that did boo are the pathetic ones. You should be ashamed...
yorkiesaint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 So anyone actually own up to booing cortese then? It seems to me that if the boos were loud enough to be audible on tv, and they really were for cortese then some on here must have been among the boo-ers. Or did anyone boo for another reason at the same time?
Yeovil Saint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I kind of understand the reason for booing Cortese (though I don't agree with it). But what's baffling me is why cheer Markus but boo Cortese? Does anyone believe that Cortese is doing anything at all that Markus doesn't approve of? They are a team, it's just that Cortese is the bad cop to Markus's good cop. Cheer them both or boo them both, they are the only logical positions to take.
Daren W Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 In fairness it is difficult to look for a sound.... Sorry I was too busy having fun to be clever...
Danny R Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Daily Mail reading morons, they need to shut the hell up. Cortese is a winner and we need winners at the club.
alpine_saint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 As someone has posted, ML and NC are a package deal. MLs money and NCs firm but supportive management has brought us our first silverware in 34 years. And they are our best bet to get back to the big time. I think saintkiptanui is right - some people should shut the f**k up and stop looking for issues.
saintjay77 Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Speaking to a few people I went with yesterday and they heard some boo's around the same time as NC was on the screen. Unfortunatly Lord Malwaaaanker was walking out onto the pitch at the same time and we presumed the boo's were to him.
jjsaint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I definitely heard booing for NC. Not convinced that this was coincidence or due to anything else.
Ken Tone Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 This. Everyone time the Mexican wave crashed at the Carlisle fans, all the Saints fans nearby booed. During one of the 'waves', ML's face came up on screen and loads of people cheered. As the camera panned away and the cheers died down, the 'wave' ran up against the Carlisle fans again and Saints fans nearby booed them. It had been going on for some minutes by then and was all fairly light-hearted stuff. It would be easy for anyone who wasn't watching the mexican wave action to misinterpret it, but I'm pretty certain it was incidental. Sorry mate but that isn't the case. Yes there were the clear and loud boos over the mexican wave, but completely separate to that, when Markus face appeared on screen there was a loud cheer. His face was followed by Nicola's and then I, in block 125, could clearly hear some of then cheers turn to boos coming from somewhere to my left, ie from the saints end somewhere. This happened at least twice and was *not* at the same time as the Mexican waves, nor in any way connected to Mawhinney for that matter as some others have suggested. K.
NorthamSteve Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Brian Mawhinney was coming onto the pitch. Can we close this thread now please?
Foxstone Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 (edited) Brian Mawhinney was coming onto the pitch. Can we close this thread now please? And he certainly did get the bird from all around Block 533! Still think that the untimely boos that happened when NC's face came on screen were highly co-incidental! Edited 29 March, 2010 by Foxstone
ottery st mary Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 I am led to believe it was some chap called Murray and a few of his cronies off this forum. The other 51,000 have nothing but luv for NC. COYRs
trousers Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Ok. So, just to summarise then...we're all in wild agreement that there was some booing at the same time as Cortese appeared on the big screen but that there is no tangible evidence that it was directly aimed at him rather than a coincidence because Malwhiney had just walked onthe pitch. It's great to all agree about something at last. Hoorah
alpine_saint Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 Ok. So, just to summarise then...we're all in wild agreement that there wassome booing at the same tine as Cortese appeared on the big screen but that there is no tangible evidence that it was directly aimed at him rather than a coincidence because Malwhiney had just walked onthe pitch. It's great to all agree about something at last. Hoorah So, the question to be asked is - was it a coincidence, or did the SKY bloke in charge of camera direction get an instruction from "on high" to create a little news item ? Put Cortese up on the screen at the exact time a figure that seemed to crusade for us to have points docked not exactly to the letter of the rules came out onto the pitch, thereby heaping more attention on the nature of the relationship between chairman and manager ? Nothing would surprise me about our media anymore.
