Haven't checked all of the ones above so apologies if this has already been posted. Not the greatest song of all time but the greatest to reach number 1

The Specials Ghost Town

My favourite episode of Father Ted is the one where they have to use this for the Irish National anthem:p

As for my choices;

- The Clash with White Man in Hammersmith Palais. Excellent tune from the best British band of my generation, I always put this as top of my hit list

- Radiohead's Let Down - not quite as emotionally draining as No Suprises

- Powerslave, one of the best from the mighty Maiden

I was lucky enough to see the great man at the Albert Hall about 16 years ago.

I heard his shows could be a bit patchy, but he was on top form that night.

Same line up as on this Jools Holland clip, with the upright bass and the outlaw looking guiter player. Fantastic

Very hard to pick favourite songs for me going to have a go at a top few (in no particular order):

Pixies - Here comes your Man

Talking Heads - Road to No Where

The Cure - Boy's Don't Cry

The Undertones - Teenage Kicks

Arctic Monkeys - I bet you look good on the Dancefloor (honestly think this will be the teenage kicks of my generation)

And my favourite band of all time, The Jam - In the City

its not my favourite track of all time, i'll get to that in a minute, but this was my highlight of Reading Festival in 2005...

Foo Fighters - Resolve - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3faInPkj4a4

They started playing this as the sun was setting and with a completely pink/red sky, about 25 degrees celcius, I got up and crowd surfed. I was about 25ft from the stage, just gently being passed around looking up at the sky... completely unawares that £40 odd had fell out of my pocket. A great moment and one I wont forget.

My favourite song of all time? Again this is influenced by live performances but my favourite song goes to my favourite band... The Cribs with 'Another Number'

- Great band.

Also brilliant, I love The Jam/Paul Weller too, Road To Nowhere is one of my all time favourite songs and Teenage Kicks along with the sublime Julie Ocean my favourite Undertones tracks :)

With The Faces back in the news this week, thought this would be a good time to post them in all their glory. Just shows what a great singer Rod was, until he went all soft (I blame Britt Ekland)

You are correct. His early phase with Mercury Records was brilliant [The Rod Stewart Album ('69) - Smiler ('74)]. When he met Britt Ekland and moved to L.A. to be one of the rich and famous, his music went into swift decline. Seemed to become more of a sex symbol than a singer/songwriter. Shame. Just put on Gasoline Alley, or, Every Picture Tells a Story, though, and all is forgiven!
