Robsk II Posted 24 March, 2010 Share Posted 24 March, 2010 I have a load of old trophies to get rid of, varying in size, shape, quality... any iseas as to how to get rid of them? Is it worth seeing if anyne wants them at all, for re-use, or just chuck them? I'm inclined to do the latter but there are a lot, so it feels like quite a big waste. Pancake Posted 24 March, 2010 Share Posted 24 March, 2010 eBay? Car Boot?
Robsk II Posted 24 March, 2010 Author Share Posted 24 March, 2010 Anything less effort? Can't imagine there are amny ebayers interested, but I'll look - car boot is loads of time and I have to actually move around etc. Getting them out of the attic and ridding them of mouse poo etc was bad enough! Hatch Posted 24 March, 2010 Share Posted 24 March, 2010 My Chandlers Ford Rangers player of the Year award 1981 currently has pride of place in a shelf in my shed as I'm not allowed 'that crappy junk' in the house. Keep them, you will like them again in a few years.
Dog Posted 24 March, 2010 Share Posted 24 March, 2010 I got rid of mine last summer, stuck the lot (44) in a black bin liner and put a match to them. Worst decision of my life.

dune Posted 24 March, 2010 Share Posted 24 March, 2010 robsk you'd be an idiot to throw them away if they are sterling silver as they have an intrinsic value. Are they hallmarked with either 925 or the lion passant?
Robsk II Posted 24 March, 2010 Author Share Posted 24 March, 2010 Unfortunately, most certainly do not contain precious minerals. The nicest ones are either mid-quality cups, or nicely crafted things made of glass, slate, etc. If I'd had one or two, it's different, but there were something like 100. I guess I could keep one or two special ones, but beyond that, you can't really keep trophies on display for things you did years ago, I feel. They've been in a box for 8 years, and i couldn't see that changing. In the light of a loft conversion, I realised that they just took up too much space. Smirking_Saint Posted 25 March, 2010 Share Posted 25 March, 2010 (edited) My little bro played for them when Mick Wren was manager. He has several trophies too. I know wrenner. He was my dads boss for a while. Nearly played for him aswell when i was younger, around 16/17, i remember scoring a right foot thunderbolt and him watching and praising me for it. I'd like to say i went on to bigger and better but i f*cked my knee up in a nothing friendly for a mates sh*tty team for a favour. As for trophies, keep the special ones, there is no point keeping the rest. My favourite football trophies are the players player ones as i feel being nominated by the peers is a lot more prestigeous than managers etc. Keep your favourites and bin the rest Edited 25 March, 2010 by Smirking_Saint

Definitely not the case with the teams I played for. Players player was always the one everyone wanted. "Most effort" ......now that one was for the s**t players. INFLUENCED.COM Posted 25 March, 2010 Share Posted 25 March, 2010 Got 56ish in my garage, 4 players player awards, some sh1te ones but in the main most have a heavy marble base and decent football type silver and gold figurines above, seen the medals presented of late and most aint worth a w@nk, think the FA are spending all our fines and subscriptions on salaries now. hamster Posted 25 March, 2010 Share Posted 25 March, 2010 They are only worth what they are worth TO YOU at the mo. In years to come they will hopefully be worth something to your kids and grandkids ad infinitum. Seriously Robsk, if you are in doubt then keep the lot. Different sport I grant you but my maternal grandad won loads of trophies, certificates and rossesttes for pigeon racing, my mum still has them in a box. I would be mortified if she decided to bin them. Your trophies will one day be a link to you after you've departed this world, can you imagine your great great great grandkids 100 years from now telling their mates how brilliant their grandad Robsk was at footie? Keep them all mate, for now at least. just my opinion but act in haste and all that....

Golden Balls Posted 25 March, 2010 Share Posted 25 March, 2010 In all seriousness, I do regular coaching for kids at schools. Would be nice to give them trophies afterwards. If you want to get rid, I'll take them off your hands.
Robsk II Posted 25 March, 2010 Author Share Posted 25 March, 2010 You're assuming that Robsk's 100 trophies are for football? I think he'll take that as a compliment. I took it as a joke made without intent! Or if they were for footie, they'd ALL be 'most effort' or something equally disparaging! The nicest football one I ever had was for a 5-a-side tournie at millbrook, but it got broke. To be fair, though, they were often at a level far, far above anything I ever managed in football, so I'm fairly happy with the haul. I think I am going to do what I had thought of before, and what was suggested; keep the best ones and ditch the rest. The real problem is that I've lost at least two of my favourite and most important ones! No idea where they are. Together, I suppose, but no idea where. I also have a couple of tracksuits etc with sentimental value, but that gets a bit silly.
