JPT Final - Saints vs Carlisle - Build Up

Arizona

Recommended Posts

Me and 3 mates managed to get some club Wembley tickets and are looking forward to a great weekend and a great result to top it off.

2-0 Saints. Lambert getting one in each half.

Please can everyone remember to put their clocks forward on Saturday night. I would hate for anyone to arrive at Wembley, all excited, only to discover that they've missed the first half.

Up The Saints!!

16 seater mini bus all booked. £18.50 a head, happy days!!

Not for one moment have I considered us losing. I really should learn that being a Saints fan nothing is definate. But we surely wont will we.....?

If we have anything like our normal JPT side out it should be easily enough.

However if we were forced to start with a midfield of Wotton/Gillett/Deano and

Papa with Rickie and DC in attack I'd think twice about predicting certain success. Idem if we have a couple of lads playing on injections it'd be not so easy.

Just looked at the League Table. Didn't realise that Carlisle were as close to us (next position) in the table.

Yeah but don't forget the -10 and just have yourself a compare of the goal differences!!

COYR! 2-0, 1 each for Lambert and Connolly...thank God he's fit!!

A mate of mine is being treated for a bad back by the Carlise physio, who said the Carlise camp are just hoping they don't get thrashed by us and that they hold their own, they are not expecting to win.

We better bloody win as I have just changed my password to WEMBLEY if we lose I will be faced with typing that in for the next 6 weeks.

I'm assuming mawhinney will be presented to the sides before the game as he steps down on the 7th of April. He should get a friendly reception.

I hope he does as he's done a good job IMO.

I doubt many people will even notice him.

I will never forget that smile he had on his face on SSN when talking about our admin.

I'll be honest and say that I regret saying I wouldn't be interested in this trophy a few months back.

I was wrong.

I can hardly concentrate on anything else at the moment, I have that butterflies in the stomach feeling that I used to get as a kid on a christmas eve.

I'm going up in what will be a very noisy coach and just can't wait for that first view of Wembley in the distance.

See you all there.:smt041

We're gonna get beat :(

There's always that chance, no point denying it - the winner will be whoever has the most passion on the day.

My team, if everyone is fit, would be:

Davis, Thomas, Fonte, Jaidi, Harding, Antonio, Hammond, Morgan, Lallana, Waigo, Lambert.

...although I understand that due to injuries some of this won't happen. It's a shame, because Waigo, Antonio, Thomas and Perry have been key to our success in this competition this season.

Probably dislikes Rupert Lowe. That's fair enough!

Seeing as anyone with half a sense of decency agrees that we deserved the points punishment, even if the law didn't really allow for it to be applied, I don't see why he continues to get a hard time.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we not take Poopey with us on Sunday they don't deserve to join in our brilliant day out.

Lets keep the singing to Saints songs only and leave them where they belong - at the bottom of the League.

The lads need us totally behind them so for once please lets leave Poopey at home :-)

I'm one of the sad ones who was excited about this competition from the start. I like trophies we have a chance of winning. F**k you FA Cup.

+1. Been to every game of the competition this season, 2 penalty shoot out wins, 2 wins on sky for a change & a packed SMS for the 2nd leg against MK Dons. Been great all the way through.

The highlight for me was definatly Norwich, great night Papa scoring in the last seconds & then winning a pulsating shoot out.

Can't wait for Sunday, going to be a great day out & hopefully be coming home with the trophy.

Now yesterday is out ofthe way we can all look forward to Sunday. Not been to Wembley since the Zenith Data Cup final and can still remember how brilliant the Saints fans were that day compared to the Forest fans that were miserable gits.

I think we will make it a day to remember and the atmosphere will be brilliant, I really can't wait.

Only slight cloud on the horizon is the injury worries to the players, just hope this does not upset the balance of the side.

COYR :D

Turnstile C, Entrance 13, East Standing Enclosure: That was for the 1976 FA Cup Final:

Turnstile D, Entrance 8, East Standing Enclosure: 1976 Charity Shield:

Turnstile B, Entrance 18, East upper Standing Enclosure: 1979 League Cup Final:

Turnstile M, Block 231, Row 13, Seat 71: 1992 Zenith Data Systems Cup Final:

So this will be the 5th time, this old git, has seen Saints at Wembley. I went to the 2003 FA Cup Final at Cardiiff as well. But I can't find the ticket stub.

Don't know where I'm sitting on Sunday, but I wouldn't miss this for the world, mickey Mouse Cup or not.

I am going to be kicking the back of your seat for 90 minutes: just to really P you off!!! ;)

Looking forward to this: and also looking forward to not having to drive thanks to the Basingstoke Saints bus at £8 a head........... More money to buy a beer with (just the one at Wembley prices).

Most of all I am looking forward to a sea of Red & White, Cardiff was fantastic this should be something very special to behold.

I just remembered that I'm on leave from about 4 hours ago until Tuesday morning. Preps underway and have decided on wearing my '1885-1985 Centenary' shirt on Sunday, the Mark Dennis era shirt. I shall be ****ed off if I spill beer down it but am still going to take that risk.

I've just read the program and the interview with Rickie Lambert. It mentioned the final 3 years ago that he played for Bristol Rovers that went to extra time. Does anyone know if the rules for the final are different to the earlier rounds? Or will it go straight to pens if it's level after 90?

Come on you Saints

Looking forward to it so much. I'm a bit gutted about all the injuries though not so much a second string team as a third string team going out on sunday. It's also a shame for the likes of Thomas to miss out on the final having made an impact in the early games. I still think it's Papa's destiny to score the winner, Papa seems to like the JPT and if wasn't for his performace against Torquay and Norwich we wouldn't even be here.

Was asked by a Carlisle mate to answer a few questions for their Carlisle London Supporters Fanzine. Only have a pdf copy but below are my answers. Hope you all approve!

_____________________________

We asked Southampton Fans:

1. How long have you supported them?

2. Your favourite Saints player?

3. What do you think of your season so

far and will you make the play offs?

4. Will this be your first trip to Wembley

and if not, when was your last?

5. Have you been to finals with the saints

before and what are your memories?

6. Your danger players?

7. Which Carlisle players do you fear?

8. What will be the score?

9. Other comments.

1. My Dad took me to my first game at the Dell when I was about 6. We lost 2-0 to Luton. Never looked back.

2. Unsurprisingly there can only really be one choice and that‘s Matthew Le Tissier; single handedly kept us in the Premiership for almost a decade, scoring some iconic goals whilst staying loyal to the red and white. He also achieved all this whilst being about 4 stone overweight. Legend. Other favourites of note would be Marian Pahars, Tahar El Khalej and Chris Marsden.

3. Even for the Saints it‘s been a particularly strange season. After the debacle of the last few campaigns its been great to actually win some games and the JPT and FA Cup jaunts have been an added bonus. However

our league form has been patchy and we‘ve probably blown our chance of making the playoffs. This was typified by back to back 5-1 and 5-0 home

wins against promotion chasing Walsall and Huddersfield, which were sadly sandwiched between a 0-0 draw and 2-1 loss to bargain basement Exeter and

Tranmere respectively, how does that happen?!! We basically need to win all of our remaining games to make the playoffs, that isn‘t going to happen. League One champions next season, you heard it here first.

5. This will be my first trip to the new Wembley, although I did frequent the old Wembley a number of times, most notably for a Guns N‘ Roses gig in 1992.

Rock and roll. I also went to the FA Cup final in 2003 in Cardiff against Arsenal. We lost.

6. Many of Alan Pardew‘s latest glut of signings are cup tied, so luckily for Carlisle certain players in good form such as Lee Barnard and Jason Puncheon won‘t be available for selection for the JPT final! However Rickie Lambert, Dean Hammond and Adam Lallana have all had great seasons for us. I‘d also keep an eye out for our Senegalese super sub Papa Waigo N‘Diaye. He may not have mastered the offside rule quite yet but he always seems to pop up to score important goals late in matches. If you want a chuckle search for him on youtube, his patented goal celebration is truly bizarre.

7. Ian Harte appears to be having a storming season for you guys, I‘ll be looking on nervously whenever he steps up to take a free kick. Vincent Pericard, who had a very unsuccessful 1 month loan spell at Saints a few seasons ago, appeared to be having a great time of it before departing for the bright lights of Swindon. However if I‘m not mistaken Scott Dobie has stepped up in the last few months and notched a few goals to fill the void, so I‘ll be keeping my eye on him as I hope big Radhi Jaidi will too.

8. Really tough one to predict. I think it will be an open game and I fully expect us to concede at least one goal. I‘m going to go for a goal fest; 4-2 Saints win.

9. All the best for the big day, here‘s hoping we witness an entertaining final, with a happy red and white ending!
