Gemmel Posted 22 September, 2008 Share Posted 22 September, 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/7629950.stm An iguana apparently spotted 60ft (18m) up a tree in Hampshire sparked a rescue bid by the fire service. A crew from Basingstoke arrived at Cove, near Farnborough, to save the animal on Friday afternoon. But when firefighters got about 25ft (7.5m) up on an aerial ladder they noticed the exotic animal was actually a branch of the tree. The branch bore a striking resemblance to the animal when seen from the ground, a spokesman said. "When they got nearer they could see it was just the branch dangling in the wind. "We take animal rescues seriously but in this case it was a false alarm," he added. Iguanas are part of the lizard family and are native to the Caribbean and south and central America
