lumpofshipperley Posted 18 March, 2010 Share Posted 18 March, 2010 For all those people who slated Baird for taking the money to play in the reserves - eat your words!!! To be fair of all the players who#ve left I didn't think Baird would be prem class! Well done to the lad!

Italian football in general isn't what it used to be but Juventus are still a very strong side. chrisobee Posted 18 March, 2010 Share Posted 18 March, 2010 Great result indeed for Fulham but it is worth noting that Juventus are nowhere near what they used to be. Indeed, to quote Juve manager Alberto Zaccheroni after Inter beat Chelsea: “It was a great victory for Italian football, not just because it takes Serie A into the final eight and relaunches our sport on the international stage, but also in the way it was achieved. “We care a great deal – I underline, a great deal – about getting through to the next round. We cannot start making a list of what is more important, so we’ll face every game with extreme conviction.” On the whole Italian football is poor ( Man U v AC Milan for example as well as this). Felipe Melo, Sissoko, Diego cost 50 million between them, I follow Serie A as my 2nd team are Roma & I can tell you Melo & Diego have been complete gash since Juve signed them! They're currently 5th a long way behind the top 3 & I wouldn't be surprised if Palermo beat them to the 4th CL spot. Not surprised Fulham have beaten them atall tbh. I don't really watch any serie a football but I listen to loads of podscasts and the general consensus is that Melo and Diego where both terrible signings. It's pretty strange because Diego looked brilliant every time I saw him play for Brazil and Bremen, then Melo was a target for Wenger and he doesn't get it wrong very often. Arizona Posted 18 March, 2010 Share Posted 18 March, 2010 A great result for Fulham, but Juve aren't really all that this season. Beating Man Utd 3-0 (or was it 3-1?) earlier in this season was arguably a greater result, just less unusual.

S-Clarke Posted 18 March, 2010 Share Posted 18 March, 2010 Hodgson is one of the best managers in world football, he has done complete miracles there and fulham are the luckiest club in the world to have him. Their squad is on a similar level to the likes of Sunderland, Birmingham etc - yet he has got them all playing at a fantastic level. Baird has come on leaps and bounds under him, so has Zamora. I didn't expect Baird to be playing and winning in a 2 leg tie with Juve when he left for fulham!

Andy_Porter Posted 18 March, 2010 Share Posted 18 March, 2010 Liverpool could do a lot worse than sign up Hodgson if Rafa goes to Real or Juve. Will be cheap on wages, works well on a budget and loads of experience. I'm sure they will go for another pointless foreign appointment but they really should be looking at Hodgson. Yeah, I expected Diego to be a lot better than he has been. Never saw anything from Melo that suggested he was worth €25m. Good player yes, not worth that though. As has been said on this thread the level of Italian football in European competitions has become pretty poor. Serie A itself has actually become one of the most exciting leagues to watch, certainly in terms of goals - there were 39 last weekend including two 3-3 draws & a 5-3 game too. Contrast this back to the 90's when there wasn't as many goals in Serie A but the Italians were very strong in Europe, it's virtually done a complete change around in the space of a decade, exciting attacking football in the league but crap when it comes to Europe. There's a lot currently wrong with Italian football though & I'd be here for ages explaining it all!

Rory Posted 19 March, 2010 Share Posted 19 March, 2010 Clint Dempsey is one of the best midfielders in the Prem, IMO. It was a shame he suffered that injury earlier in the season, otherwise Fulham could be a lot higher.

Totally agree, I watched him closely when Fulham played Roma away and thought he just looked a class above. He is really clever with the ball at his feet, rarely does he lose possesion and he has a trick about him too. His goal last night was a brilliant piece of skill. As for the rest of the Fulham team, they work so hard as a team, every player knows his role and does it very well. Aaron hughes is a very decent unsung hero sort of player, no fuss just does the business week in week out.
