dune Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 It's really not good enough after the cash spent though. We need a proper midfielder at CCC level who can run a game at L1 next season. Without that we will continue to suffer from inconsistency... i.e dropped points. on the night we did enough, but millimeters i.e the frame of the goal wud have been so so different. we had moe play and more shot, swindons went i ouersdidn't. result no good enmpugh performanvce maybe coul;d ahve better, but on the night we did deserve the win so on that basis there is np a great deal to moan about
charliemiller Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 At the beginning of the season we were ten points away from the play offs After 35 games we are sixteen points from the play offs I was hoping for a little better with all the money which has been spent Actually its worse than that at the begining of the season we were 10 points off being DIV1 champions. How far are we off that now ???

Saint J 77 Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 Swindon may have beaten us but I know in my heart of hearts we are a better team we just panicked when we didn't get the early goal. Swindon did not panic and gave a professional performance. I don't think our players can handle this pressure of having to win every week, its obviously effecting them. If we are going to go up next season they need a change of mentality. Its a very disappointing night especially after the weekend and knowing what this team is really capable of. EBS1980 Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 A shame that our tiny hope of a play off place has gone. Lets enjoy the rest of the season and our wembley trip. If we can finish top 8, at the start of the season i'm sure 90% of the people on here would have been happy with that. Many were saying mid table then go for it next season. trousers Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 Putting polarised opinions to one side for a brief moment....does anyone serious believe that Cortese ISN'T considering his management options for the rest of this season and the start of next? Of course, one of those options will be to retain the current manager but I would be more worried if, as a shrewd businessman, he wasn't constantly reviewing the performance of his management team and keeping ALL options open. saint1977 Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 Although Pards is clearly in a real battle for his job, I will say that the top 6 in this league have amassed large points totals, far more than the CCC. Therefore, we'd have needed a huge points total and hardly any dropped points all season and that is too big an ask IMO considering that he inherited. What a pity after playing so well Saturday. I think AP needs to be getting us in top 2 by October and if he hasn't done that with Leeds, Norwich et al gone then I then can't defend him any longer. I like the players he has brought in and how he comes across so I want him to succeed.

corsacar saint Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 Outfought and at times out played. If we cannot handle the pressure now, how do we handle it next year as probably favourites to go up. Every Saints player chose tonight to probably have their worst game in a Saints shirt both individually and collectively. Pardew could leave any of the starting line up out for saturday, as I would not give any player more than 5 out of ten. Well P***** off.

WGC Saint Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 It cracks me up how fickle some fans are. We were world beaters after Saturday and now we're ****e. Get a grip people and put some perspective on tonight's result and some of the other poor results we've had this season. Swindon are in the top 6 for a good reason and after the start we had and transition we have been and still are going through, it's no surprise we're going to get odd results like some of those we've had. I fully believe next season will be completely different and we'll hit the ground running with AP still in charge and should comfortably finish in the top 2 or 6. Smirking_Saint Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 I feel this is the end of what has been an unfortunate underperformance in the league this year. It is a shame as we sounded as we were playing very well against Swindon but as has happened many times this year we have failed to make chances pay, if we beat Swindon i would have been slightly leaning toward the 'we can make the playoffs' debate but now it has gone. Pardew, as much as i would not like to see him leave i feel will be worried for his job now, i hope that he stays on for the full 18, but if we do not dominate like we should be doing then i can't see how next year we can be seen as automatic promotion candidates. As much as everyone is saying bla bla bla NC shouldn't be getting his knickers in a twist, it is obvious to me there was a two way conversation regarding making the playoffs (which was reasonable) and so the money was spent, Pardew would have known this. Pokerchampion Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 Boys came out like a bullet in a gun , Swindon matched us man for man all over the park , Fontane had one of his worst games in a saints shirt , it was his dismall attempted pass/clearance that set up their goal . No fluidity not enough movement off the ball , their man for man marking took most of our players out of the game tonight . Lambert looked off colour , Hammond was the invisible man , Lloyd James should have stayed on the bench , one of the worst perfromances for a substitute ive seen in a while , Klamity Davis in goal making p..s easy saves look hard . Only shining lights were the stadium ones . But on the bright side if at the beginning of the season we were told would you take a top 10 finish and a trip to Wembley we all know the answer . ericofarabia Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 A little bit of luck and we could have had 3 or 4 goals .... woodwork twicwe and 2 off the line plus a goal disallowed whilst playing badly. Disappointed ... a resounding YES .... but after some of last seasons feeble efforts where some games we didn't even manage a shot on target or force a corner .... only consolation .... even the most eternal optimist has to admit that The Play Offs are out of the question. Lets just go for the being less than 10 points off the play offs, and have the moral high ground that we should have been in the play offs as the target between now and the end of the season. captainchris Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 How very irritating!! I don't get how we can be so inconsistent. Is it the players or an inability to change tactics? I hope the attendances don't start to fall away now that promotion is out of the question. Oh well. Wembley and next season should be good.... We are inconsistant because we have no playing strategy at all. Our game is not based on sophisticated football even though we have the players to do it without a problem. We are therefore easily out thought and often out passed by much inferior and millions cheaper teams. If Pardew does not show he can play decent well thought out passing football with the money spent we will continue in the same loop this season and next. I really do not see him taking us up - it will be someone else that does that!

I really really do not want to see the back of pardew but i can see his position could be under threat. IMO, he has bought good players and has been able to get the best out of the younger ones. However, our overall league performance has been poor, you can't get away from that. Without the ten point deduction we would still be a reasonable distance from the playoffs. Our performance has improved since crimbo, but is clearly still inconsistant. And if NC is a decent business man he will clearly have these thoughts in the back of his mind. With the money he spent in jan it is obvious he and pards sat down and said, 'i think we can make the playoffs, lets spend'. Take the glasses off and get a sense of ambition and realism, tonights result was disapointing but not disaterous overall, but our league performance has. S-Clarke Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 Bloody frustrating and cold night. Too many of our players had off nights, i thought Punch/Hammond/Lambert and Fonte were all poor tonight, and that's pretty much the spine of the team. Swindon came with a real game plan and they executed it brilliantly, a really top away performance from them. They harried our midfield but most importantly, condensed the game and closed us down - there was little if any space at all to operate when players like Punch or Lallana got onto the ball. They probably played as well as they have all season, but we didn't really push hard enough in the 2nd half. I think that thread about Jaidi and Fonte has jinxed them...! they were both really iffy tonight, esp. Jaidi who looked really really leggy. Oh well, season was over a while back anyway - but we need to learn from this result, this is the sort of game that promotion winning teams can grab a 1-1 or a 1-0 from - and we have to start doing that or we're not going anywhere. Second half they nullified our main threat in puncheon, and our one dimensional approach of 'lump it at lambert' was easily dealt with by the swindon back 4. Our team is crying out for some pace. toofarnorth Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 I actually didn't think we were quite as bad as most people are saying. Swindon played very well and gave us very little time on the ball. On another day we would have scored twice instead of hitting the post and the bar but that is football. One thing I will say though is that Lloyd James was awful when he came on.
