swannymere Posted 15 March, 2010 Posted 15 March, 2010 I've decided to free up some cash and space and have discovered that i have just over 1000 CD albums and about 100 CD singles, does anyone have any ideas about how much they're worth and anywhere i could sell them? Don't fancy eBay as the listing would take ages, any secondhand record shops in the area?
St Landrew Posted 15 March, 2010 Posted 15 March, 2010 I've been told there a shop in the City centre that will buy CDs.
scott_saints Posted 15 March, 2010 Posted 15 March, 2010 Would also be interested if there's a shop that will buy cd's....
swannymere Posted 15 March, 2010 Author Posted 15 March, 2010 What ones do you have? I might be interested. I'd prefer to sell them as one item rather than splitting them up as i can't be arsed with it all, i'll start cataloging them soon and will then list.
Ash Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 www.musicmagpie.com Not always a great price but when selling a job lot it is a quick and easy way to get rid.
Marsdinho Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 There is a shop next door to Shirley Police station that buys CD's. Its called Weasles and used to be down St mary Street. When i got rid of my cd collection, the owner offered pretty good prices.
swannymere Posted 16 March, 2010 Author Posted 16 March, 2010 Thanks for the help so far guys, the musicmagpie is an interesting proposition but very time consuming so will save as a last resort. If i can sell it as a job lot i'd take £1500 (am i dreaming?).
Marsdinho Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 Take a crate's worth into Weasles, he'll go through them and offer X amount for the lot......repeat until all CD's have gone
ant Posted 29 March, 2010 Posted 29 March, 2010 If it isn't too late (random thread revivial I know), CEX in the Mall (Marlands) take second-hand CDs. Prices vary from decent to insulting, but it's a quick and easy way to shift them. I know eBay is a hassle, but I find listing on Amazon to be quick and easy. You literally just find the CD you want to sell, enter the price and condition and that's that. You pay fees, but they give you around £2 towards postage (normally only costs about 70p in reality) so it evens out a bit. Probably only worth it if you're going to make a couple of quid per CD, some albums go ridiculously cheaply.
swannymere Posted 7 June, 2010 Author Posted 7 June, 2010 Turns out i've only got 650-ish CD albums rather than the 1000+ i expected! I've tried getting hold of Weasels but when i phoned today (monday) nobody answered and i've been informed by somebody that they're due to close. I want to sell in one go if possible and i'm being more realistic about the value of them so any suggestions of shops that will buy them in the Hampshire area.
harvey Posted 7 June, 2010 Posted 7 June, 2010 www.musicmagpie.com Not always a great price but when selling a job lot it is a quick and easy way to get rid. I used them a couple of years ago, didn't get a great deal of money for the cd's, but then again, I didn't listen to them anymore.
swannymere Posted 7 June, 2010 Author Posted 7 June, 2010 I used them a couple of years ago, didn't get a great deal of money for the cd's, but then again, I didn't listen to them anymore. Problem is the majority of my CD's are only worth £0.30 according to their website! That's just taking the ****.
harvey Posted 7 June, 2010 Posted 7 June, 2010 Problem is the majority of my CD's are only worth £0.30 according to their website! That's just taking the ****. Blimey!!! you must have some cr@p cds . Maybe their prices have changed since I did it. I think I got about £50.00 for approx 60 cd's. Had to wait quite a while for the cheque though. Good luck with whatever you decide to do though.
saint_bert Posted 8 June, 2010 Posted 8 June, 2010 There is a shop next door to Shirley Police station that buys CD's. Its called Weasles and used to be down St mary Street. When i got rid of my cd collection, the owner offered pretty good prices. Tis a PC repair shop now I think
Marsdinho Posted 8 June, 2010 Posted 8 June, 2010 Tis a PC repair shop now I think Yes. Shame really, as that PC repair shop wont last.... Weasles was still there when I wrote that post back in March though.
Marsdinho Posted 8 June, 2010 Posted 8 June, 2010 How about taking them to a record fair. I think there is one on at Soton Guildhall on the last weekend of every month. You might get lucky and find someone willing to take them all off your hands.
warsash saint Posted 10 June, 2010 Posted 10 June, 2010 Ross Records in P*mpey always used to give a decent price on CD's (mind you that was a few years back)
Marsdinho Posted 10 June, 2010 Posted 10 June, 2010 Ross Records in P*mpey always used to give a decent price on CD's (mind you that was a few years back) and you have to step foot inside Skate land...
Block 5 Posted 10 June, 2010 Posted 10 June, 2010 Weasel's was great when it was in St Mary's Street. Does anyone remember Underground records when they were there?
harvey Posted 10 June, 2010 Posted 10 June, 2010 Weasel's was great when it was in St Mary's Street. Does anyone remember Underground records when they were there? That rings a bell!.......I know that I used to go there sometimes, but I just can't picture it in my mind
Block 5 Posted 14 June, 2010 Posted 14 June, 2010 I think there were even TWO Underground records in St Mary's Street. The shop's logo was (predictably) the same as the London Underground. I guess we are talking mid 80s?
Spudders Posted 17 June, 2010 Posted 17 June, 2010 I'd prefer to sell them as one item rather than splitting them up as i can't be arsed with it all Problem is the majority of my CD's are only worth £0.30 according to their website! That's just taking the ****. This is the main problem. You don't want to go to the effort of selling them individually, but that's where you'd make the most money back. Companies like music magpie make their money off of peoples laziness (no offence meant to you!). They buy them dirt cheap, but making the experience as easy for the customer as they can (hell you don't even need to leave the house other than to post the cd's). It's like that 'we buy any car' company, yeah they will buy any car, but at a dirt cheap price. A couple years ago I tried a similar company (it may have even been them) with a car that I knew was worth approx £4500, they offered me £600 for it! If you really want to maximise your return, you'll have to put in a bit of effort and go down the ebay or Amazon route. Any other option (including independent record stores) will see you offered a token sum of money for your cd's.
harvey Posted 18 June, 2010 Posted 18 June, 2010 On a side note, I've got this cd (not the one advertised)....................do you really think that it's worth £54.00? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ruby-Blue-Broken-Water-Red-Flame-Rock-1992-CD-/310176050440?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item4837eeed08
