NorthamSteve Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 I've had a little look around the interwebs for an answer to this. All I can find is students going OMFG NUKE ATTACK and other really uninteresting comments. If it isn't students it seems to be either preperation for Fawley to go kaboom, the Navy loading/unloading live ammo or the dockies going on a tea-break. What I am sure of is when I hear the sirens going it's what was used as the all-clear in WWII (a long held note) as opposed to the 'oh **** here they come again' (note pitch rises and drops) which I have never heard. So, does anyone know for certain why they test/use them?
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 It is a warning that live munitions are being moved at Marchwood. Not that a nuke attack would serve to get many students up off their arses anyway.

Jillyanne Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 How many times has this thread been posted now? The answer as DSM has said - ammunition being delivered to Marchwood Military Port.

Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 I used to live in Fawley, and always assumed it was Esso having a practice for the end of days.
South City Si Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 I live in Shirley and hear this regularly, assume it was to do with the docks.

ecuk268 Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 Cognis at Hardley (used to be BP Chemicals) test their major emergency alarm at 14:00 every Tuesday.
St Landrew Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 I always thought the local authority was testing them for Civil Defence purposes. Makes sense, after all.
