hypochondriac Posted 14 March, 2010 Share Posted 14 March, 2010 This board is a very very small percentage of Saints fans overall. I love the way forums think they speak for the club.... but they are no where near!! Yes I knew someone would say something like that. I think there was maybe one or two people who were in favour of moving the away fans? I would be astounded if this forum did not reflect the general feeling of season ticket holder on this issue. saints triumph Posted 14 March, 2010 Share Posted 14 March, 2010 When asked about the skates plight he said he hoped they wouldn't get a 9 point deduction. If that were to happen he would have a case to get our 10 points back as well as crystal palace and leeds would get a good lump of compansation
opthomps Posted 14 March, 2010 Share Posted 14 March, 2010 I like the way he is realistic enough to have expected playoffs, but not that getting there meant getting promotion. He just wanted to have the chance of it. He said it would have shown all the players that we mean business even if we failed to go up this year, hence all being on borad for next season. NC is definitely not happy that we're prob not going to make it to Playoffs. No rift with Pardew but he is going to have to deliver from now on I feel. All sensible chairmanship in my opinion. Great result yesterday though!
OldNick Posted 14 March, 2010 Share Posted 14 March, 2010 Iam surprised nobody has picked up on him saying about player purchasing. It seems to me that AP is not the only 1 who decides who is bought. The way NC put it across was osund IMO as he said 'if a manager leaves, we are left with his palyers' wheras if the club have a plan they can carry on building and not having to start again as the manager has moved. IMO he is what we need and perhaps a bit of a dictator, but one vision that will with determination get us back to the higher leagues
Ewell Posted 14 March, 2010 Share Posted 14 March, 2010 His interview just goes to show how comments can certainly be exaggerated. The rift with Pardew being a prime example and the new stadium plans being another. The stadium move was definitely an option but it was answered in this way due to the way the question was structured and probing by the interviewer. I liked the way Cortese deals with things in that as Dubai Phil alludes to above he never dismisses anything out of hand and merely says it is an option. It is quite obvious from the interview that the first priority is to develop the surrounding area especially the infrastructure. It is good to hear that they are working with the council on this. Any Compulsory Purchase Order and link up with the people who are building the 'Snow Dome' whilst speculative cannot be dismissed. The snow dome could be the key to Saints staying at St Mary's as the whole area is likely to get redeveloped and get a complete face lift. It was also good to hear how Cortese is on match days, plans for the academy, his reasons for being disappointed if we do not make the play offs. All of this made sense to me and I have to say if anyone had any doubts that the club is not in safe hands then I would be astounded if you thought the same after listening to that interview. Top Stuff and long may in continue! Oh and the guy who asked about staff car parking, what were you thinking FFS?

I heard it as though the manager decides who he might want based on the areas that need strengthening, but once he has decided and it has been agreed that player is within budget, at the right age, right wages etc then the manager steps away and NC and his team take over sorting out the deal. Except for anywhere that Redcrapp manages I would be surprised if any club leaves the buying of players purely to the manager.
sadoldgit Posted 14 March, 2010 Share Posted 14 March, 2010 Most of Mr Cortese's vision seems to be the same Mr Lowe wanted. It is just Cortese has the communication skill and a lot more money behind him. Excellent interview Communication works two ways depending on who is doing the talking and who is doing the listening. There was a time when there were a pot of people with their fingers in their ears singing "La la la la" because they didn't want to hear what was being said! The key element here is money. Mr Cortese has the luxury of having working capital whereas his predecessor "didn't know where the next pound was coming from." As long as ML provides the funds, any half decent CEO should have a fighting chance of talking this club forward.

I am talking Lowe in the Premier years not his second spell without money. Dubai Phil summed it up nicely. Cortese reviews, listens and then makes a decision. Lowe thought he knew best and did not listen. And whilst I am replying to you, why not leave Alpine alone. Your vendetta is becoming boring and I thought you were more intelligent than that. Or am I wrong?

Secret Site Agent Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 He fecked it up and they had to go back to a five year plan What happened to his three year Plan Pardew had fecked up? Or simply there was no three year plan And no spoon either.

saintjay77 Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 There is a simple difference that came across very well. NC does his research by taking adivce, doing surveys and then makes a decision. Rupert of course always knew everything so always made every decision based on what he knew to be right. Allegedly Rupes was never one for taking advice from people he considered to be of a lower standing than himself. (nob) I like the way NC is doing things and would be happy even if there wasnt such a big finacial backing. He knows where he wants the club to get to and he will create a plan to get it there based on what is available to us. I cant see him commiting too much or not enough and his decissions are all based on sound advice.
ShirleySaint Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 But as with any poll Dr. Who, the fans on this board represent a percentage of overall fan numbers and the likelyhood is that a majority opinion held by this small group of fans represents the same majority opinion of the whole fan base This would only be true if the people on this forum were randomly selected from the whole fan base. The people who visit and (most importantly) post are self selecting. It is therefore very unlikely that they are representative of the whole fan base. The clubs poll re moving the away fans bears that out. The majority of posters on here didn't agree with the club's suggestion, but the club poll said the opposite (unless you are going to accuse NC of lying?). EBS1980 Posted 15 March, 2010 Share Posted 15 March, 2010 Just listening to the interview. When asked about any regrets so far NC replied: In general one or two decisions on staff could have gone better. (think that was what he said) What/Who do you think he meant by this? iansums Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 I was impressed by the way Cortese gave the impression he was not going to pander to the fans. When questioned about the the ticket booking fee he made no apologies but simply stated that the extra workload was going to cost a certain amount and that's what the booking fee was for. Personally, I like that attitude.

Cortese said because he believed in transparency ie this is the ticket price and these are our costs in getting it to you - very refreshing I thought Transparency - now there is a word that does not travel very far in an Easterly direction to Portsmouth !! I can understand the questioning though. A comment was made about someone having to pay £33 in booking fee's. 1 booking for 11 people. Why not just £3? or a reduction as customer is saving work? all 11 people could have phoned up to get there own ticket and created 11 times as much work. Can understand why the customer would feel a bit peeved. But the club cant go round making tiny adjustments all over the place as the system would get far too complicated and waste too much time and money. Its one of them things that cant be helped IMO. Ah I thought it was telephone transactions. Can understand it for postal as every booking is treated seperatly and more time consuming I guess. I thought the only way round it was to queue up and get it from the booking office. Could have charged a waiting fee for standing in the queue so long. lol

Lowe might have thought he knew best but he backed down when others didn't support him over Hoddle didn't he? I also understand that he consulated others about certain decisons, like talking to WGS about Luggy before he hired him. Like most things in life, few things are as clear cut as they might seem. Personally I don't see much difference between the two of them but it is early days yet. As for Alpine, perhaps you should have a word with him? I don't think I am the only poster on here who is fed up with his constant negativity and abusive posts.
Crab Lungs Posted 16 March, 2010 Share Posted 16 March, 2010 What are great interview and I can't help but like his arse-kicking attitude. A few whingey Saints fans nitpicking, especially since how well things have turned out. Some of the moans were quite frankly, pathetic all things considered. We should be more bloody appreciative, frankly. Fantastically intelligent Q and A... compare that to the Skates forums :-o
Noodles34 Posted 17 March, 2010 Share Posted 17 March, 2010 The bit I heard made me realise we have a very smart man guiding our club. He like me is keen on the idea of having our own end and the away fans moved. He knows that some will stick their heels in and may not return to watch the club.If we have the crowds back im sure he will be happy to factor in the loss of perhaps a 1000 fans.To be fair if they are more interested in making jestures to the away fans, then perhaps it will be no loss. Yeah, they should be getting out the flask and tartan blanket....
