If we win at Wembley

No to buses, no to the stupid banners that are being put up, no to stupid way in which the merchandising arm of SFC has gone into over-drive!

Yes, it's a lovely day out to watch Saints at Wembley, but it's not exactly 2003 is it!?

Are you old enough to remember 2003?

BECAUSE it is a day out at Wembley, our first at the new stadium, it's a chance to be amoungst 44k other Saints fans getting smashed and having a good time.

The actual game to me is a bit of a side-show.

Winning the trophy isn't embarassing, celebrating it like it's the FA Cup is...

This is nothing more than a poor mans Charity Shield in my book.

Basically like any all away games then ..... a great day/weekend ruined by 90 minutes of football :D

At least we do draw / win more than we lose at the moment which is a bonus!!

"Embarrassed" ! "Ground to swallow me up" ! :smt119

You sound like the type of guys who only pee in a cubicle instead of at a urinal because you are worried what the other pee'ers might think of your smaller "trophy"!

Why be embarrassed about celebrating success wherever it comes, christ we have had enough crap to put up with recently, so why spoil a party if the club wants to throw one.

Great post, great analogy! And my thoughts exactly!

What could be better than drinking, singing and cheering our team on with 43,999 fellow Saints?

Its tough to win any of the other cups when you are playing in League 1, so let's enjoy this one! I bet Norwich, Charlton, Leeds et al would have liked their day out at Wembley!

Up the Saints!

Equally then, if we lose I shall expect this site to be full of balanced, cheerful posters indicating what a pleasant day they had, and how the competition and match itself was nothing more than a delightful diversion, and it really didn't matter who won anyway.

...I shall expect nothing more than stiff upper lip and a good time was had by all on March 29th no matter what the result then.

It's really not hard to understand is it?

We all want to win at Wembley.

We don't want an open bus top celebtation as if it were an FAC win.

Anyway an open top bus celebration at the end of March might not be such a great idea anyway, especially as it would be on a Monday or Tuesday

I've booked Monday off as I plan on having a very sore head either way.

I booked Monday off for the hangover and Tuesday to fully recover, I then realised it was Easter weekend on the Friday so booked off Wednesday and Thurday as well. Nice 10 day break for me.

Just enough time to get bail.

Erm.... Wembley day out, yes please.

Bothered if we win it? No, not in the slightest. If Saints win I will be safely back in the boozer by the time we go up the steps to lift the trophy.

Agreed.

Only going to see Saints at wembley, couldn't particularly give a **** about winning a mickey mouse trophy.

Celebrate the hell out of it, life is too short, use it as a celebration of our new regime and coming out of the dark hole we were in.

I remember going to watch Aberdeen, the fans had been spoiled with League Championships, A Cup Winners Cup and a smattering of Scottish Cups. I watched a particular performance vs raith where Aberdeen were full of movement and invention, they took Raith apart but only capitalised on 3 of the great chances they had carved out. I stood up, expecting an ovation to the players for a great game and was pushed past by about 3,000 people mumbling about, "only 3-0" and "second in the league is no use". Fast forward several years and Aberdeen are lucky if they can beat Partick at home and finish in a consistant mid table slot. I bet those grumbling supporters had wished they'd enjoyed 3-0 wins and 2nd place a bit more now.

Sieze the moment and celebrate like it's the last cup we will ever win, for all we know it might just be...

Wise words. It might be another 18 years until we play at Wembley again.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can we not do an open-top bus parade through the town... that would probably class as one of the most cringeworthy moments in my Saints supporting life if we did.

Stooey, You've had a result! I bumped into Cortese today and told him of your request. He said he would comply but on one condition. He said that you would also have to ensure that you and your merry band of mongs (his words) would have to refrain from turning up at Wembley in any of that godawful wannabee Casual clothingthat you all seen to like to wear. He reckons that fat blokes in their 30s wearing Stone Island and the like is the most cringeworthy thing he has seen in his Saints supporting life.

What do you reckon? Deal or No Deal?

We're not Real f*cking Madrid you know, we are a LEAGUE ONE team, and this could potentially be the first piece of silverware at the club for 34 years, and that is a cause to be celebrated. I agree that an open-top bus might be a little OTT, but I won't cry myself to sleep if a parade does go ahead. Some people really need to get a grip on the reality of the situation we are in. We do have a billionnaire owner (one with actual money as opposed to P*mpey's monopoly billionnaires), we do have one of the best stadiums outside the Prem, we do have a team that is committed to producing the best results that they can and we do have a manager who is turning our club around from the awful season we had last year. That does NOT make us above the Wycombe's, the Brentford's and the Stockport's at this level, because we're all in the same boat. Most of the teams at our level (and below) would kill to be in the position we're in, and what do our fans do? Insult the competition and ridicule it. F*cking ridiculous.

I will be at Wembley cheering my team on for 90 minutes, and if we win then I will be ecstatic that we will be champions of something for once. If we lose, then que sera sera, life goes on, and we can look forward to next season. I think some people just need a reality check.

I am going to Wembley to see Saints play in a final at the home of English football, and if we do not win I will be ****ed off. If we win I will be happy for weeks, and will stay to cheer us lifting the thophy.

We have been through so much rubbish in the last 5 years it is time for the masses to meet at Wembley and see Saints lift a trophy (no matter which one) for the first time in nearly 34 years!!!

I am proud to be a Saints fan, and proud to see what is not a League 1 team in a final and hopefully winning!! I will not be ashamed at all.

I work with a Leeds fan and he was well pee'd off that they did not make the Final and are not playing Saints. He is a season ticket holder at Leeds. He was walking round the day after the area final in a daze and was hurting!!

We need to come down off our high horse, and I think some Saints fans just do not know how they should be feeling.... I will tell you happy to be in a FINAL!

For now this will do just nicely

COYR!!

So it is a cringe worthy and embarassing day out and you really don't give a sh*t whether saints win or lose.............. however on another thread you are having a pop at the 'plastic c*nts' that are trying to get a ticket and may actually enjoy the day out ??

I am finding it hard to place you really ?? It may not be a particularly high profile game however i want us to win, and win well. Were hardly f*cking real madrid are we ?

Without joining you on your abuse of a poster, I have to say that it is funny seeing fans from all clubs that think wearing a coat or a jumper with a label makes them cool and "casual". Part of the casual scene was to move on and be different from the rest. I do laugh at the sheep wearing ill fitting stone island jackets that are far too long in the arms and tacky. The worst thing is seeing some of the trainers these people wear. An old casual wouldn't be seen dead in the trainers some of them wear. Maybe with size opening in town they might smarten themselves up with some decent trainers.

Again, i'm not joining in on this blokes personal abuse, just making a general point. And if anyone saw that silly tranmere teenager head to toe in chav labels my point is proved :D

I tell you what, I had half a chuckle at that, so how about I offer you the bankers gamble, rather than all this cyber b*llocks.

I offer you to come to Wembley on one of the Romsey funbus for FREE and I will buy you the first pint and Denzil will buy you the second.

So... Deal or No Deal?

And we dont need a morale boost?

You do realise we had no pre-season, almost lost our club forever and ever and started the season -10.

We are in a worse state now than Luton were ever in

Yeah, thats why you're constantly moaning about how bad things are eh?

How do you spell 'hypocryte'?

I think the posters putting down the JPT are being very unkind to the lower league teams who maybe will never play at a higher level and why shouldn't they have an opportunity to play at Wembley. Let's not put them down. We are very fortunate to have the infrastructure and the backing that we have. That will get us back to the premiership but let's not undermine the value this competition has for lower league teams. I couldn't get a ticket but will still enjoy the day and if we win I will be happy to join in any celebrations going without any embarrasment whatsoever.

Absolutely! The JPT/FL Trophy competition involves Leagues One & Two, comprising 48 teams, way more than half of the English professional league structure!

Add to that the increased quality of League One this season with all the 'big' teams involved it could be argued that this way a very tough competition to be in, and we have done very well to progress to the final, beating Charlton, Norwich and MK:dons on the way... not bad!

A bit of spin for the 'its embarrassing' gang; as were a club clearly (finally) on the up, we may not have many opportunities to win the FL Trophy, so lets lord it up all the way back to the PL...

Keep your ears peeled next time Stoke are on the telly, they always sing about there JPT victory!

If ML, NC, AP and the TEAM wish to celebrate any potential cup success, il be there to applaud and celebrate with them whether its an open top bus, open day or a lap of honor.

No need to be embarrassed, worry about ego, street cred, just enjoy, celebrate and have a party!

I really dont care how grand the method of ceremony may be, I just love enjoying the good times, and good times we have ahead!

Up the Saints!

Anything more than plenty of shouting, cheering and jeering on the day, would be ferkin embarrassing, in fact embarrassing wouldn't be the word for it. We would be a laughing stock.

Anyone who is old enough to remember the open top parade in '76 will remember what a special occasion that was. But we were a second division side who had just beaten Manchester United in what was the worlds most glamourous club knock-out competion. Doing the same after beating Carlise United in a tin-pot trophy only open to lower league clubs would be a mockery.

Enjoy the day out folks, and let hope for a win; but lets keep it in perspective FFS.

Celebrate for 4 or 5 minutes after the final whistle - no problem.

But dont EVER mention it as a success as it really isnt a very good one.

It is a bit of a success as there are some good teams in the lower leagues such as leeds charlton norwich etc etc and it will show that we are actually on our way up and we are the best team in league one.
