I've got an ante-post double on Zaynar and Punchestowns.

 

Since I placed it, Zaynar finally managed to lose and Punchestowns might not even run (saw this headline in RP on Saturday, but haven't yet had a chance to find out what is going on).

 

Happy days.

Punchestowns was found to be lame on Friday I think it was, the result of losing a shoe. I believe it is likely to clear up but since he had a similar problem only recently I imagine that the main problem will be a lack of proper preparation. Currently best price I can see is 4/1 with Paddy Power and Hills.

Zaynar of course lost at Kelso at 1/14 but the ground that day was only just fit for racing. I would not be too concerned though I'm guessing you did not get the 15/2- 8/1 now available !

dirty little double of Cant Buy Time and Wogan on Saturday.....let down by the shorter odds horse. checked the results on my phone and saw the Wogan result first, hell yeah i thought. Wrong.

 

Sure i'll splash a few quid, had my online account re-opened especially!

Wogan was such a strong bet on it's own you should have backed it as a single as well or instead !

Can't wait for this year's festival to start, managed to get time off work to go up for two days this year, instead of just Gold Cup day like normal.

 

Looking for Zaynar to come in for me on the Tuesday backed him everytime he has run since he won the triumph hurdle at last year's festival (although luckily not in his last race!) Was very happy with Solwhit scoping dirty yesterday. Just need something to heckle Go Native now!

Excellent coverage on CH4 as well. Morning Line every day at 8.25am, live coverage starts at 12.30pm until 4.15pm ( unfortunately Deal or No Deal is then on ) and highlights just after midnight. Should mean they cover 5 races every day and only miss 1 on Tues and Thurs and 2 on Weds and Friday. RUK is too expensive these days, for me at least though you can view replays online for free as indeed you can on ATR so cannot complain about the coverage.

Well yeah obviously I wasn't going to back him at those odds! Anyone got any strong fancies for the festival, possibly outside of the obvious frontrunners?

Sadly not, but it is still a 26/1 double. Not as good as you'll get now, but not to be sniffed at.

 

Not but if you place any onus on stats the bad news is only four of the last 26 Champion Hurdle winners were beaten on their last start.

Good ATR preview of Champion Hurdle, you need to log in/register to view but it is worth registering on ATR anyway as you can view 100's of archived races and they'll always have a free tipping challenge for Cheltenham and all the big meetings, prize is generally a £500 free bet if memory serves.

It's that time again!!

 

The Champion Hurdle is a total conumdrum, brilliant race in the making. I've backed Celestial Halo and Punjabi and will back Go Native on the day. Will be surprised if the winner is not amongst those 3. Celestial is still good value at 14 on Betfair.

 

I think Dunguib is a good thing in the opener but will wager on Oscar Whiskey to upset the Irish.

 

I'm trying to dig out some place value on the World Hurdle, I might have one but it is also declared in another Festival race so will wait and see.

 

I was firmly in the Denman camp prior to Newbury, now I'm not so sure.

Also strong stats against horses that have not raced in that calendar year, 5 year olds and Supreme winners.... wont put me off Go Native though :yawinkle:

I would love to find the winner of this race again as it is one I have fond memories of ever since Collier Bay won in 1996 and at the price I was on ( 16/1) meant it was my biggest ever winning bet. Truth to tell I was new to horse racing then and when I phoned to place my bet which was each way I stated a stake of £100 which meant I wanted £50 ew, however it was taken as £100 ew and I was too embarrassed when it was read back to me to say it was wrong so ended up staking £209 ( still 9% betting tax then, I even remember that! ) . But I got lucky !!

I had a lucky one this week. Backed Woolston Ferry on Wednesday, meant to take the 8's on Betfair but clicked the wrong button and selected SP. Went off at 24 and took the spoils. That's the Cheltenham play money sorted.

Which brings Me Voici into the picture for the Triumph Hurdle on Friday, currently 20/1 at Victor Chandler and William Hill but only 10's at Corals.

Just backed it at 20/1 with Hills ( stake returned if NR) with the hope of laying it at a much shorter price, cue rain dance as the horse is unlikely to run without a fair bit of rain by Friday though at least I'll have lost nowt. smiley-sad058.gif

Friday, Novice Hurdle----Tell Massini

 

Napped by Mick Fitzgerald for the meeting and as a very good pointer won the Hyde Novices' hurdle. Betchworth Kid is a decent ew bet at 10's or better, will not mind the ground if it does get a bit soft and hopefully will get the trip.
