krissyboy31 Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Always rated him a decent player but at £11 million, I get the feeling we ripped Wolves off somewhat. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/5046764.The_Rumour_Mill___March_8/?ref=rss
John B Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Perhaps the Journalist is a Tory as they tend to miss out decimal points to give the completely wrong slant on things;)
S-Clarke Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 gutted for drew, it's been a complete disaster for him with wolves. he would have stayed here if he had the choice.
Arizona Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Wonder if we could get him back if and when Wolves go down.
doddisalegend Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Wonder if we could get him back if and when Wolves go down. Who would he replace? I suppose he could go the bench as useful cover not much different to his current postion with wolves;).
alpine_saint Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Wonder if we could get him back if and when Wolves go down. who do we move to the subs bench ?
Arizona Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 who do we move to the subs bench ? I rate him above Hammond. I know they play different roles, but given choice I'd still probably take a midfield or Surman and Schneiderlin. Come to think of it, I rate him above Schneiderlin too. I can't really say which combination of the three works best.

Alanh Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 I don't think he would get in the first 11 at the moment. He could arguably replace any of Hammond, Schneiderlin or Puncheon but I don't see him as being a distinct improvement on any of them.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Still if he has the option of staying at Wolves, moving to Forest or coming back to play in the 3rd division with us, I don't expect it will take him long to decide.

ottery st mary Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Based on ? I am usually good at guessing and my lottery results are always very close. Reading were after him before and are struggling for fit midfield players. But my guess is I might be totally wrong. Happy new years windows.

Great Reading can take Surman so we can buy Church off Reading, Church has looked good this season, reckon he'd look better in a saints shirt though.

He could arguably replace any of Hammond, Schneiderlin or Puncheon but I don't see him as being a distinct improvement on any of them. He could replace any of those three or even Barnard. We need another quality central midfielder in for next season without a doubt, relying on Schneiderlin and Hammond to stay fit for a whole season is mental.
Dellman Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 People on this forum used to moan like hell about Surman, and spread stories about his drinking which no one ever proved, why the sudden turn round to want him back? I'm afraid all last year's lot were tarred with a bad brush and I wouldn't want any of them near the place, even though he was local.

Dig Dig Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Hopefully we see drew back sometime soon Does that little wink suggest you are ITK Mark?
Yate Saint Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 I don't remember any stories about Surman's drinking...not one. Nor me.

If you actually met the guy you would see that he was probably one of the nicest and most down to Earth footballers around. I don't remember any of those stories. I think you are mistaken.

Met him a couple of times also via his brother and he is all of the above. Loves Saints as well, would have him back without any hesitation
teamsaint Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 He is a class act, and would walk into our current midfield IMO. Would love to have him back.
hypochondriac Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Met him a couple of times also via his brother and he is all of the above. Loves Saints as well, would have him back without any hesitation He's also really clever and was a fantastic cross country runner. Lovely guy and so is his girlfriend.
Colbury Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 He was never going to be prem class because he lacks pace... Very decent CCC player and I would welcome him back. Would be a backwards step in his career however.
StVince1966 Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 surman reminded me of bridge or bale but sadly not in the same class as either of them he would make little differance to this saints side if any?
Dig Dig Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 He was never going to be prem class because he lacks pace... Very decent CCC player and I would welcome him back. Would be a backwards step in his career however. tbf not every prem player has blistering pace. If that's his only flaw then he could still make it as a prem player. He just needs to be used in the right way
doddisalegend Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 He's also really clever and was a fantastic cross country runner. Lovely guy and so is his girlfriend. His girlfriend is a lovey guy I didn't know Surman was like that;)
Docker Walker6 Posted 8 March, 2010 Posted 8 March, 2010 Surman to light weight, couldn't tackle, much prefer Hammond and Morgan.
