scotty Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Can you imagine the opposition team talks. "Well, let's start with Lambert, we've got to mark him tight, and Barnard of course. Don't forget that Lallana has scored quite a few this season so watch out for him. That Hammond has a good head on him with his late runs. OK, corners, watch out for Fonte, um, they have a couple of scoring wingers Antonio and Waigo. Their new midfielder is also a goalscorer.... " lol

dune Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Was this the best performance since we beat Spurs in the cup?
S-Clarke Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 The massive difference to this team now is the spine. Fonte > Hammond > Rickie - when all 3 are on form, we're unplayable. Glad to see Deano back to his best, him and morgan have formed a great understanding. Same with barnard and lambo. you could also say the same about Jaidi and fonte....and Lallana and Puncheon. (when they keep swapping over, causes confusion for the oppo) basically, we've just clicked as a team. Unplayable at times tonight, Huddersfield disappointed me - thought they'd make more of a game of it (but I'm not complaining!) MOTM for me is a toss up between Punch and Deano - but I'll give it to Dean, he leads that team fantastically. let's hope we can get our away wins back on track, and then we're cooking!
scotty Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 I told my tw*t of a mate in dartford after the walsall reaming that this was where we started dishing out the hammerings, he texted me after tonight and said "f*ck me, you were right"
Jimmy_D Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Whee, you can keep that match at the Emirates... The best football to be seen tonight was at St Mary's Really couldn't pick a MotM, the entire team were awesome tonight...
Arizona Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Wish I was there and should have been but couldn't. still, can't be all that upset I guess. Pardew out etc. Biggest home win wince the 6-1 against Tranmere and I missed it. Balls! Haven't conceded from open play on 4 games too.
PaulSaint Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Did you really here "Mike Hunt" or was it Porkies?
Toomer Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 I am looking forward to the short exchange of e-mails tomorrow morning with our Huddersfield depot efter the stick I got when they beat us at their place.
paulwantsapint Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Capello forget Heskey & co give Rickie & Barnard a game against Egypt then take them to world cup they both bloody score unlike Heskey
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Just back. As someone who is hard to please I have gotta give praise where praise is due. Every player played well tonight. Best performance for many a year and against a side who are no mugs. Saturday was out biggest win in 14 years and yet within 3 days we better it. And when was the last time we had 5 different scorers? I know I should know but it must be way back when. Will check tomorrow. Puncheon has made a big difference - so much more to his game than Antonio or Waigo. Barnard is on fire - full of confidence. Tireless runner in the Ormerod style but feel he has more to his game. A good buy. Ostemobor - improving every game. He got stick at first but he is blossoming. Schneiderlin - not a fan but his last two performances are starting to make me think I could be wrong. Lambert - buy that man a beer, tireless and a talismanic figure. Has intelligence too. Harding - committed as ever and very mobile. Hammond - growing on me, great header tonight. Lallana - Saints always look good when he is on form. And he is at the moment. Sometimes makes the wrong choice but hopefully that will improve with experience. I would never leave him out. Jaidi and Fonte - best centre half partnership in this Div by a mile. I wish Jaidi was 5 years younger. Fonte is pure class. Davis - wish he came off his line more but in truth had little to do. Subs Waigo - he will always be a handful coming off the bench and took his goal very well. Oxlade-Chamberlain - could have scored, coming on will do his confidence a world of good. His pedigree means he is one to watch. Seaborne - young legs, perfect replacement for Jaidi.
Huffton Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Got chatting with a couple of Huudersfield lads in the pub before the game. Nice lads, but a bit ****y about how great their strikers were at the moment, and their centre backs were also on fire. Told me he thought they give us a bit of a shock. Yeah, didn't they just...
ericofarabia Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Did you really here "Mike Hunt" or was it Porkies? Read out live over the airwaves .... think he realised he'd been stitched up a millisecond after he finnished saying it
saint_stevo Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Did you really here "Mike Hunt" or was it Porkies? Mike was read out on Solent. I dont understand the furore................
captainchris Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 So........... Where's the Pardew doubters gone? I was one! Good luck to him - he just dallied about for so long didn't think he would ever get it right - looks like he has! What a feelin!
Saint137 Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Complete domination. Awesome workrate from all the lads bearing in mind they'd played on Saturday. Barnard and Ricky all over the place, tackling back and marking up. Fonte must be getting bored ****less, he had nothing to do all night. Best performance since we put Spurs to the sword in the FA Cup, 5 goals, 2 posts and a crossbar. And remember this is a Huddersfield side that stretched Leeds all the way at the weekend. Can't wait for Leeds now, want to avenge that 4-3...
Bucks Saint Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Absolutely fantastic tonight lads, amazing performance and everyone sent home with a huge smile! Never another moan from me after that show. Oh, but can I have my money back for Wycombe please?
Um Bongo Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 We were excellent tonight. Huddersfield arrived full of confidence and were probably hoping for at least a draw, if not a win. Started off well, 'field had alot of pace and started with three at the back? First header from Lambert was brilliant, the second from Barnard was even better. You just knew Punchon was going to score when he cut in, and from then on it was EASY. We never looked like conceding. Lambert hit's the bar with a good save from the keeper, Lallana hits the post and Davis makes an excellent save from point blank range. 3-0 half time. Huddersfield huffed and puffed in the second half, but the closest they came was a cross in the box which was turned away from 6 yards and a couple of blocked shots. Defence looked at ease, and Hammon got a 4th 15 minutes from time. Waigo topped it off with a very good finish, and the nipper came on for his Debut. I don't think anyone saw this coming. The divison will now FEAR us. Could this be the result to kickstart out play off hopes?
ericb Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 this looks like the best attacking side i've seen since Chris Nicholl's team in the late 80's. There's goals everywhere and no side in the league is going to want to come up against us at the moment. Oh and Fonte is a touch of class, how the hell he got in front of that shot late on i've no idea, but the fact that him AND spiderman where throwing themselves infront of things at 5-0 up speaks volumes. MOM for me was Puncheon, just. Deano, Spiderman, Lallana, Lambert, Barnard, Jaidi where all magnificent too, but the way Puncheon ripped them to pieces (especially his crossing) was a joy a to watch. If i'm being honest i still don't think we'll make the play offs but at the moment i don't care. The football is brilliant, the players are looking superb and even the Chapel is singing!!
dune Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Read out live over the airwaves .... think he realised he'd been stitched up a millisecond after he finnished saying it The funny part was that i sent the text: I want to have Alan Pardews babies Mike Hunt. He read it out as "Mike Hunt wants to have Alan Pardews babies"
Give it to Ron Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 That was one of the most superb team performances I have seen. I have been going since the mid 60's but this team have everything. Morgan and Hammond were colossal in the middle, Semi and Harding fantastic support play. Jaidi and Fonte were supreme. Puncheon adds so much to this team, someone who can actually get to the byeline, Lallana workes so hard one time he chased back 30 yards to cover Harding. Lambert and Barnard works the line and defenders they have no peace. 5 - 0 does us justice we were so much better in every department tonight. Just brilliant!
Weston Saint Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 What a game to miss but I have just got in from a long standing dinner appointment. Still I was kept up to date and good to see some of the reports from those like S-Clarke and Fitzhugh Fella.
captainchris Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 I think this was one of our games in hand This is so funny.......it can't be one of our games in hand against Huddersfield even if they didn't turn up !!!!!
sainter28 Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Absolutely fantastic tonight lads, amazing performance and everyone sent home with a huge smile! Never another moan from me after that show. Oh, but can I have my money back for Wycombe please? Considering I went last Tuesday and missed tonight I'm with you!! Atleast I went against Walsall!!!!
St Landrew Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Capello forget Heskey & co give Rickie & Barnard a game against Egypt then take them to world cup they both bloody score unlike Heskey You know what..? When I watched Rickie Lambert's performance against Pompey, I thought he was actually England material. He had such a fantastic game that he had the Pompey defence in all sorts of trouble. Yes, he would be good enough for the Egypt friendly. But to what end..? Let's be greedy and keep Rickie to ourselves.
corsacar saint Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Absolutely magnificent performance, Duncan[FF],has said it as it really was. If we can get 3 points on the Tranmere gluepot, I would not be surprised to see another 30,000 crowd at home to Leeds.
The Cat Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Beautiful football at times. Next season we'll win the league by 300 points.
sidthesquid Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Five words for a five nil win - How chuffing good was that???
Gorgiesaint Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 5 goals from 5 different scorers & a clean sheet as well, fantastic. Let's hope we can keep the run going on Saturday.
hypochondriac Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Amazing performance. Cracking atmosphere and was wonderful to watch. They weren't a bad side unlike Walsall but we were unplayable.
John McAndrew Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Did you really here "Mike Hunt" or was it Porkies? I heard that on Solent...saying"pardew I want your babies"by mike hunt lol....matey didn't even realise what he just said
S-Clarke Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Beautiful football at times. Next season we'll win the league by 300 points. we'll do what i achieved on football manager, 136 points, 120 GD and undefeated all season (just 1 draw) you're right about the football though - so glad we've stopped ''hoofing it'' up to lambo, he's so much better with it to feet. It also allows us to get the best out of Lallana, Morgan and Punch playing this way. Some of the football was really majestic, one touch flicks, back healed passes, keeping position from the back to the front in one move...and then having a shot. just classic stuff - loving it!
Bushey Saint Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 I have a damp patch at the front of my boxer shorts. Don't panic, it will happen to us all as we get a little older, and you can get something for it
St Landrew Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Absolutely magnificent performance, Duncan[FF],has said it as it really was. If we can get 3 points on the Tranmere gluepot, I would not be surprised to see another 30,000 crowd at home to Leeds. Except that we beat Wolves at Molineux 6-0 only a few seasons back. However, that was largely a case of a 50-50 game going brilliantly for Saints every time they had an attack. By all accounts, this game was one-way traffic. A demolition, or as commentator Kris Temple said, Huddersfield were chewed up and spat out..!
St Marco Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Great game and great performance by the lads again. In just 4 days we scored nearly 25% of the goals total we had for last season. I think this finally puts the final nail in the mongs coffin. If anyone criticises the team, manager, players etc now should be banned. In form guide we now sit 3rd overall and 1st based on home form.
S-Clarke Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Oxlade-Chamberlain - could have scored, coming on will do his confidence a world of good. His pedigree means he is one to watch. Thought he had something about him, his movement to get into that goal scoring position in the first place was excellent. Do we know what his position actually is? i assume an attacking midfielder? looked very quick though and hopefully he'll get a few more run outs in the near future - he really is one to watch though. (he's had alot of excellent reviews from the youth team)
Saints Warrior Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Southampton are back hello hello...watch out Skates we`ll meet you on the way down. If not this season then next. Powerfull display!
samoakley Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Best perfomance of a saints side we won everything and just wanted it more and finishing was quality lets not get to carried away though, well i suppose us fans can but the players need to be focused for sat another 3 points even if its a 1-0 win or a 2-1 win just need the points to keep comming and playoffs will happen.
sidthesquid Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Does anyone else think that Lambert & Barnard remind them of Beattie and Ormerod in their heyday?
Badger Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Great result which sends out the message that Saints are on the march upwards again. Just got to keep the momentum going.
dune Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 Does anyone else think that Lambert & Barnard remind them of Beattie and Ormerod in their heyday? Yes come to think of it.
sidthesquid Posted 2 March, 2010 Posted 2 March, 2010 An old girlfriend years ago got spoofed into reading out 'Has anyone seen Mike Hunt?' on the tannoy in the factory where she worked. She never went back after she wqorked it out.
