What's up with AP?

Made in Southampton

Recommended Posts

Huge over-reaction and over analysis on here once again.

1) it wasn't that bad

2) it was clear it was after journo started sill negative questions

3) Pardew confirmed it

All talk about him leaving etc has about as much credibility as the rumours on here that Cortesse is disappointed in him

Sorry, but 2 above is not correct - the negative attitude by AP was there from the start despite easy friendly questions, but its clearer if you see it, rather than just listen to the soundtrack. Try Saints Player:

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/2...9398~1,00.html

1) not got saintsplayer

2) think the length of responses and tone changes when the bleak disappointment was mentioned

3) what does "sill" mean?

4) I don't think Pardew is lying and radio solent were happy to acknowledge the critisicsm of their reporter

move along, nothing to see...;)

I have it on good authority (from a contact within the club) that Pardew and Cortese had a clear the air meeting this evening to ease tensions between the two of them! Let's hope all is sorted!

So it was "family problems" as in the club are one big family. So the Pardew situation explained thread was not correct about him having some issues in his personal family life?

I hope whatever it was it doesn't have a negative effect on tomorrow or any other game from now on. Obviously what ever it was didn't effect the team on Saturday, I am hoping for more of the same from the players come tomorrow night.

Pardews interview on the OS seems a lot more positive. Interestingly he mentioned the Wycombe game and admits they need to learn how to win on certain pitches or in certain difficult situations. It would make sense for him to have had clear the air talks with NC and he has seemingly accepted that saints must improve in certain areas in order to grind out results especially away from home. He is under immense pressure and he is bigging the team up now so failure is not an option for him. Though we wont know until the end of the season what will be classed as failure.

We're all entitled to an opinion, and to speculate, but unless you had seen the Interview, rather than just heard it, its hard to make a fair assessment. If there has since been a clear the air meeting, is that good or bad news? It would be good if it means they can move forward but on the other it would suggest there was a problem big enough to need a meeting. Whichever, we should be grateful for a lot of entertainment over the weekend and thats not only the great result, but some good banter.

Sorry St Loius

I don't buy your explanation " have it on good authority (from a contact within the club) that Pardew and Cortese had a clear the air meeting this evening to ease tensions between the two of them! Let's hope all is sorted!"

Are you a WUM merchant on the same level as RORY who said he had tendered his resignation or are you working for the echo trying to get some meat to force \NC's hand re the echo spat with the club etc etc

So you dont believe Louis

I am not sure I do either

So do you think there is anything going on behind the scenes as in the interview he was very complimentart about the fans but was pretty negative from the start of the interview

Come on! The downbeat tone of delivery says it all. NC had probably told him he expects that result every match now until the end of season. At the very least AP has to be in contention for a playoff place if he is to feel reasonably secure - and rightly so IMO.

According to today's Echo the reason Pardew has given for being a tad annoyed on Saturday was "negativity" although he is refusing to say where that "negativity" originated.

I really hate to say this because I know its not what most of you want to hear but I think there is ongoing tension between AP and NC.

That could to be the case because he seems to be getting plenty support from the Fans who dont seem to be at all negative

Usually Managers are under pressure from fans

So we should all let NC (and The Echo) know what the fans think. We don't want to experience another round of manager-merry-go rounds.

"We've got Alan Pardew

To be honest I don't know why I'm even replying to you here!

Anybody on here who knows me knows that I have NEVER come on here with rumours or joined in any speculation to wind people up. I get lot's of snippets of info from a friend who works at the club (that is all I am willing to say about his position for obvious reasons) and 99% of the time I wont post it, for fear of getting him into any trouble (regarding transfer targets he has shown around the club, etc) but with something as small and insignificant as this subject, I thought I would share the fact that Cortese and Pardew had a meeting yesterday to 'clear the air' (as my friend put it)

It is hardly sensational or groundbreaking news, so why you think I would make it up is beyond me!? I am sure chairman and managers have these meetings regularly at most clubs, so it is not necessarily going to lead to anything (and I never hinted it would) I just know that there has been some tension between the 2, so hopefully this has been put to bed!

It is 100% fact, but if you think I have made it up then so be it.

I've heard the NC had a moan at AP because he bought on Papa when we were cruising and we had to pay appearance fee.

St Louis

I would send you a PM if you had that facility

There has been a lot of specualtion on what I think is non thread

We had the Rory post that he had resigned and Downes had taken over

we had another post where NC was joining AC Milan Yesterday

and then there was the fan who texted Solent to say he had stormed out of the ground yet still managed to sign autographs and speak to fans.

It is because of posts like that i find it hard to determine who is telling the truth.

Certainly AP looked a tad perplexed and was looking around when he gave the interview and did not maintain much contact with the interviewer but kept looking at someone else. Was NC stood close by , I have no idea

I do not know who you are but please feel free to PM re more about yourself

Thanks

I think there probably is. I would like to know who elee was present when he did the interview , he kept looking elsewhere. It reminded me of being in the Army a couple of years ago I was asked to speak to the press re training we were undertaking for deployment to warmer climes. There was this major (PR guy) stood close by watching every word I said. put me really on edge especially if I ended up saying the wrong thing. Maybe NC was stood close by and watching and Listening to AP's every word. but it could just be the questions were very mundane

Saints fans voted with their feet under the previous regime and now they are voting with their feet under this ownership. We're watching good football in a great atmosphere with great owners and an honest manager playing attacking football using his successful signings. I can't think of another manager right now who I would want in that could improve on this.

Obviously would have liked to have turned the draws into wins but we have to remember AP never even had a scouting network when he arrived and I think he has done a terrific job and our season has progressed more than I thought.

COYR looking forward to Wembley, thanks ML,AC and AP.

If there are things going on it is rather a pity because I feel the club is in great shape after last season and the first few games this.

Or which is more likely in my opinion

He didn't like the start of the interview where they say it must be a good result after the dissapointing game against Wycombe?

If you had just thrashed a team it is a bit dumb to bring up ghosts of games past. Im pretty certain that is what it was.

This whole NC is not happy with Pardew thing i think just like this thread is pure speculation and as always people have let their imagination run wild with them. NC strikes me as a clever guy, someone who is succesful in business. I think he will see what we have done this season thus far as a success.

it was worse than that

first questions got full and proper answers, tallking about performances, stats etc, got a bit worse when asked if getting crdit deserved but interviewed died when interviewer said; "people were painting a bleak picture after Tuesday's disappointment"

Well I dont think AP is as Unprofessional as you are suggesting getting the hump with an interviewer is not like him.

he has demonstrated that he can deliver results, especially against the objections set for this season. Some will continue to pretend to know what NC expects and go running behind NC comments about league results. We have a great squad for this level and are now finally in a position to play our best 11 week in week out. I can't see us losing many games now and this will put us in good stead for next season.

Surely the last thing NC wants is to divide the fan base and turn us into a circus once more!?

Well i hope that is all b*llocks.

Or else we are back into the realms on R Lowe

We are getting better a thread devoted to Manager and CEO relations and it's 372 posts before Rupert Lowe gets a mention. Surprising as some of the accusations thrown in Cortese's direction would have had the pack howling at the moon had Rupert Lowe been conducting such activities.

The alleged comments that Papa was bought in by Cortese without Pardew's agreement or that Cortese is a regluar in the changing room on Match days are particularly interesting. Even Alpine has no problem with Coretese in the Changing room on match days if it's just a chance to wish the team well exactly the same activity Lowe was lambasted for by the same poster and many other of course and not to mention allegedly acting as a DoF.

The reality in both cases may be somewhat different IMO and the appearance of a not obvious 'club loving' chairman in the changing room on match days could be construed as a lack of faith in your management staff.

If we have learned one thing in the past 10 years or so, is it not, CEOs upstairs, managers and coaches downstairs? If Cortese's patience has worn thin with Pardew then I don't think that mirrors the perception of the majority of Saints fans and is a very worrying omen for all Saints fans. Pardew's patience expertise has generally met expectation and is clearly building not buying this clubs future. We are grateful to Cortese but not beholden and whilst the investment has been welcome money doesn't always buy success - it can sometimes buy impatience and a disaffected fan base and even an increased in club debt.

There is a strong case for saying you want the manager to be under pressure, not from a Chairman who tries to do his job for him, but by a chairman who sets targets, and will tighten them when he thinks its right. It was the lack of management of Burley, and Redknapp that led to some of the problems. If Cortese makes Pardew perform above his level, in the long run AP should be grateful. Best of luck for the game tonight and we'll all be waiting anxiously for the post-match interview!

We could add "We've got Alain Pardew" as well. Mind you, I'm not sure how we're going to make it apparent that there are three different spellings.
