Any wave or swell, once started will only break if there is strong enough sea in contrary directions to disperse it. I can't see how a tsunami is going to be broken up, until it hits a land mass, as it almost certainly will be the biggest wave in the ocean. Then again, the Pacific is the biggest thing on Earth, and a lot can happen from one side to the other.

Mind you it is in a very unstable part geologically speaking. .
