Edinburgh

I would like to add that I am going with 2 other lads... so anything slightly 'ghey' would be out of the question.

Hundreds of pubs. Plus you could go to either Hearts, Hibs or Murrayfield. Bound to be a game on at at least one of those venues. Public transport is pretty cheap too. One word of warning though, if you've got kids with you (probably not a problem in your case) they are not allowed into licensed premises after about 9 pm.

Edinburgh is awesome. Go to Haymarket Square, lots of pubs, and one big club I forget name of. Also, there is a little cobbled street just above Princes Street with lots of pubs on.

It is a boozing paradise.

Edit: I don't mean Haymarket, I mean the Grassmarket!

Edit 2: But if in Haymarket go to pub called the Spider's Web at 6am - it will be open and serving.

Strolling along the High Street in the old city centre is fun. Check out some of the specialty Scotch shops, if you enjoy single malt whisky. There are also some good pubs along there.

A hike up to Arthur's Seat would give you an amazing view of the city.

If you're a big fan of Ian Rankin's Rebus books, visiting some of the places mentioned a lot in his books might be of interest.

Rose Street, it runs parallel to Princes Street.

Also a wander down Leith Walk to the renovated docks where you can eat, drink and visit the ex-Royal yacht 'Britannia'.

Funny enough I am also going to Edinburgh next week-end! We are flying up on Friday morning. Think we might be going to a comedy club on the friday night and nice few drinks on Saturday. I have been up before and found a great pub/club near the Castle, it was over 4 or 5 floors with different music on each, just got to try and remember where it was!!

Some good pubs in the royal mile. better still head down to the grassmarket area some great clubs and pubs in that vacinity. The Blue Blazer is or was good for real ale etc.

Also a lot of clubs in the toll cross area just up from St Giles Church

Haymarket a few decent pubs and restuarants. I normal have a mealsome where in the haymarket before heading to toll cross and grassmarket areas.

If you fancy dry skiing head up to the pentland hills

Leith well as your having a sort of Ghey weekend away then that will not be your scene!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well that was emotional.

Decided to do a bit of culture in the morning, so went to the castle and then the Scotch Whisky experience.

Just basically pub-crawled for the rest of the afternoon then ended up in one of the best curry houses ever.

Nice city, wouldn't go back there again, but well worth a visit.

We went down Rose Street... one of the birds in the pub said there is a saying that if you drink in every pub on the street then you won't be alive when you get to the bottom... we drunk in most of them... and loads of others.

Are they poofs at drinking in Scotland?
