UKIP are a bunch of lunatics

UKIP's reputation as a bunch of bizarre individuals with very odd views was cemented by leader Nigel Farage who accused the new EU President of having the "charisma of a damp rag" and coming from a "non-country" as he is Belgian!

Everytime I have run across UKIP MEPs in my work I have to say that they have indeed been verging on bonkers with the views they hold! They are a very strange lot!

I like Farage.

Obviously this sort of thing is a publicity stunt but when you see him on a forum like Question Time he is one of only a few politicians who actually bother trying to answer the question put to them.

You might not agree with his views but if more politicians were like him things would be better IMO.

He NEVER answers the question put to him, he always turn it into an anti-Europe rant.

This.

Except I agree with his views, too.

I am not a UKIP supporter and there is no need for Farage to be disrespectful to the Belgian, but if the damp rag is really paid more than Obama, then Farage is entitled to ask "who are ya".

As a taxpayer, funding the EU gravy train is not one of my priorities. How can the non descript head of the EU earn more than Obama (probably the most powerful / influencial politician / person in the world right now)?

I'd say this statement is pretty representative of most people who vote UKIP. Congratulations.

whatever happens in the next election we'll get a Tory government, like we've had since the 70s. The lib dems won't get in because they don't favour the rich, who own the media.

It'll either be Labour or the Conservatives. A Tory party who calls itself Labour, or a Tory party who calls itself The Conservatives

sarcy ****.

It is people like you who think everyone should bow down and vote for the crap middle-ground of politics. There is nothing different about the labour, tories or libs. They are exactly the ****ing same.

Riddle me this matey: on the day the Redcar steel plant was closed down the government and tories were engaged in the usual infantile 'debate' about building a new high speed rail line from London to the north. Guess what railways need in huge amounts? That's right! STEEL! But because we are a slave to the EUSSR we can't nationalise Redcar and use its steel for the railway. It is 'uncompetitive'. Bull****. We're either a sovereign nation or we are nothing. Redcar made the best steel in the world. Any normal country would use its own steel for its own infrastructure. But not us! No, we must bend over and get shafted by a corrupt undemocratic EU which exists only to enrich the plutocrats who run it.

Time for common sense and you don't get that from Labour anymore. Nor the tories. And the libs are a facking waste of space.

If you ignore the hilarious schoolboy insults of Nigel Farage he actually has a very valid point. None of us elected this European President, we were not even allowed a refurendum on Europe. The whole Europe thing is just a big self-perpetuating gravy train. and totally undemocratic.

Um, yes we were. Ted Heath took us into Europe in 1971 and, in 1975, Harold Wilson's government held a UK-wide referendum, the first ever. There was a 65% vote in favour on a 67% turnout.

Then how come we vote for our leader every 5 years or so but no vote on Europe?

Because the decision to join the EU was the policy of the Tory Government of the time. Labour had their doubts so held a referendum to make sure. There's nothing to stop any party having withdrawal from Europe in their manifesto.

The problem with referenda is that where do you stop? Withdrawing from the EU? Abolishing the monarchy? Fluoride in the water? There's no clear role for referenda in the British Constitution.

If a large majority are so against the EU, you would expect UKIP to have many more MEPs.

I thought I was the only person to realise this.

Trouble is not many people remember the proper Labour party, whoever you vote for now you end up with the same thing, which is why a lot of people don't bother.

All Blair's fault.

The referendum, i seem to recall was whether we should join a "Common Market'.

Not a European Union.

Which is why I voted "No to EU, Yes to democracy" last time round.
