saint lard Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 (edited) Just a question to anyone that knows anything about mountain bikes. Picking one of these bikes up tomorrow from the police as my Pa had one put in his garden a month ago and it has not been claimed, therefore it is now all mine! Apparently it's black and still had wrapping on both tyres and looked new. Also the copper said it was bloody nice apparently. Anyone got one on here? as i know nothing about what makes a good push bike. Hopefully it is similar to this! ..... http://www.gear.com/p/santa-cruz-bicycles-bullit-mountain-bike-r-fr-build-kit-2009 Edited 22 February, 2010 by saint lard
Dog Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 I used to have one, but it got taken from my garage on Xmas eve, it was a present from my dying grandad, who has since past away. Where do you live?
Fowllyd Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 I know a lot more about road bikes than off-road ones, but if it's anything like the one you've given a link to then it's a very fine piece of kit indeed. Even if the components on yours aren't of the same standard it'll still be very good, as it's clearly a high-quality, double-suspension frame. And it's massively unlikely that anyone would fit low-end components to a high-end frame. Are you planning on using it (and if so what kind of use would you put it to?) or selling it? Not that I'm interested in buying, just that it would seem a little pointless to use something of that sort for pootling round town! For more about the bike itself, look here: http://www.santacruzmtb.com/bullit/ A serious piece of kit...
saint lard Posted 22 February, 2010 Author Share Posted 22 February, 2010 I will use it, as i currently have a knackered bike that has been stuck in top gear since 2006! Will use it for work and getting from A too B as i don't have a car at present. Would be a shame not to use it to it's full potential if it does happen to be a good'un. Thanks for the bike Dog. If you need my location, well err....check my location
swannymere Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 (edited) Mate, if your using it to get from A to B then i'd sell it as it will get nicked, very nice bike and the frame and rear shock are worth £1k on their own! saint lard Posted 22 February, 2010 Author Share Posted 22 February, 2010 I'd better get a decent lock then!

Seconded. You can't buy a bike lock which would keep that safe! Best thing to do would be: 1. Get a reasonable idea of what that bike would cost new (my guess would be at least £2,000). 2. Sell it for half of that. 3. Use about half that money to get a decent commuting bike, with either a hub gear or single-speed (single-speed fixed wheel is my preference, but that's not everyone's cup of tea!) 4. Pocket the rest of the money.
Dog Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 Sell my bike on Ebay and go and spunk it up the wall in Thailand. It wont last a week, and a lock lol, they'll take that too.
saint lard Posted 22 February, 2010 Author Share Posted 22 February, 2010 I cannot believe a bike is worth that kind of money. I will send you a post card Dog.
Hatch Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 I cannot believe a bike is worth that kind of money. I will send you a post card Dog. My brother in law has two bikes, both worth well over £5000
saint lard Posted 22 February, 2010 Author Share Posted 22 February, 2010 My brother in law has two bikes, both worth well over £5000 £5000!!.....Made from Titanium or carbon fibre and diamond encrusted? Jeez,i am way behind the times.
Fowllyd Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 £5000!!.....Made from Titanium or carbon fibre and diamond encrusted? Jeez,i am way behind the times. Carbon fibre is probably the favourite these days; the one you've got is aluminium. As to potential bike prices, check this one: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cannondale/super-six-hi-mod-ultimate-2010-road-bike-ec020251 Somebody who's serious enough and has the money (or even just has the money!) would part with that amount for a bike that good. As I said earlier, you'll be best off selling the Bullit and using the money for something else. If still in doubt, look at this - there are two versions of a built-up Bullit there: http://www.santacruzbikes.co.uk/pricing/scuk_2010_pricing.pdf
saint lard Posted 22 February, 2010 Author Share Posted 22 February, 2010 My word, nearly £9000 for a bike. To say you have to be an enthusiast is a understatement. I appreciate the advice,i have no need for something so damn expensive and i will just be more concerened about it's security and scratcing it. I knew you could get some pricey BMX bikes as whilst on holiday in Cheddar,nr the Gorge, they had the BMX championships which was televised by sky, and there was some bloody expensive bits of kit on show. Mind you, nothing like i have seen on the links you posted. You learn something new everyday.
Redbul Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 I have a mate that rides professionally (bikes that is....) and his garage is littered with carbon kevlar frames, forks, wheels that would blow away if someone breathed on them....he has wheels on his 'commuting' bike that he's raced on for a season that would be about £600 each new. It's a different world....
swannymere Posted 22 February, 2010 Share Posted 22 February, 2010 Carbon Fibre isn't really a great material for bicycle's, it's ok for pro's but personally i find them too stiff and unforgiving. Titanium all the way for me, not cheap crap tough, something nice from Dean, Ibis, Merlin or Litespeed would be great.
