Possible or Pipe dream

So you agree - the 8 games since mid december was/is a poor period?

So thats the 1st 10 league games 9 points from 30

plus

8 games since December 10 points from 24

+ minus 10

Thats why we wont make it.

Just a minor point but surely thats 12 from 8, not 10 from 8 isn't it? Not a huge difference but nevertheless.

At the moment its a pipe dream. If we now go and get 15 points from the next 5 games, and some of the top 6 drop a few points - THEN its possible. I think its all about taking things one game at a time.

There is no reason why we cant win 17 out of 17 except for the law of averages. we will be favouries for all the remaining games so why not? whatever happens, lets just enjoy the ride

I do like to manipulate stats - who doesnt?

If we win the next 17 games, I will struggle.

think this says a lot, you "struggle". So you would like to manipulate the stats to make saints look bad, but it would be hard for you to achieve your aim of slagging all things saints/pardew if we win.

Quite right. Although, as a gambler, there is no law of averages... the odds of a coin landing heads ten times are exactly the same as landing four heads and six tails...

The law of sustaining victory/success has been proven though.

And it goes like this:

1. Victory equals an increase in testosterone levels.

2. An increase in testosterone levels equals an advantage in the next encounter.

And so on...

This has been proven among male lions where a victorious lion in a fight has a much greater chance of winning his next fight.

It's how a team gets 'on a roll'. It's why promoted teams often keep winning even in the division above, at least at first.

It comes a cropper when too much testosterone leads to over confidence, poor decision making and too much risk. But let's hope we don't get that far!

It's going to be very tough, i'm not really focusing on the playoffs tbh - if we do make it, it will need to be a record breaking run of form from us.

I'm just going to enjoy the rest of the season - it's nice to be able to kind of relax as a fan going into a run-in.

So which games do people think we won't win then if you're giving up on the play offs?We can and should beat every team at home and I fancy us winning all our away games.

So imho winning 15 games is very achievable with the fixtures we've got left.Wycombe is the crucial game to get momentum and to follow up the great win at Norwich.

I really fancy us beating teams like Huddersfield,Swindon and Charlton at home and maybe even Leeds.

The players are really up for a play off charge and believe they can make it if you seen recent interviews with people like Lallana and Fonte

Why can't we have a run like Norwich have had ? Didn't they get 44 out of 48 points and we've just comfortably beaten them in their backyard

If, If, If We did manage to win 13 from 17 we would finish with 76 points

To finish above us -

Huddersfield would need to win just 7 and draw 2 from 15

Swindon would need to win just 7 games from a remaining 16

Charlton would need just 6 wins from 14

Colchester would need just 5 wins from 14

If any of the above did really **** up then Millwall would need just 8 wins from 16

Sadly (despite what my heart tells me) I think you're right about this - even if you're wrong about so much else much of the time. The top six or seven teams seem very strong this year. Even the lead two have not managed to pull away from the pack.

That said, we should believe we can win very game. The table can change so dramatically if we put in a good run - and my heart says to keep going for it - if only to build the winning culture ready for next year.

If only we had the same situation as the last time we pushed for the playoffs. Preston's season folded in dramatic fashion, allowing us to stumble into a 6th place we barely deserved, thereby making good old George Burley look like a half decent manager instead of someone who had spunked up £7m we could ill-afford to build an average looking side.

Who said spending big money should automatically make a good side?

How is that relevant to how Saints do in the next 17 games? Still possible to get 88 points.

It is also possible i may get a knock on the door shortly and get my corey chewed offa bird i abused last week.

Moral of this story- You gotta do the groundwork before your able to finish in her mouth

Now 19 points off playoffs with 2 games in hand. To make up 19 points in 16 games - very difficult, especially when you're chasing top 6 teams who are (mostly) winning. When you're scrapping at the bottom of the League, as we were for many years in the Prem/at the Dell, a couple of wins moves you up a few places and out of trouble, at least temporarily, 'cos most of the teams around you aren't winning. Once you get towards the top half of the table, it's much more difficult to make up ground on the teams above you as they tend to win more.

Time to forget about the League and concentrate on the JPT and get the team/squad gelled together so we hit the ground running in August, rather than our usual sluggish start to the season. This squad will be a real force in this division next season, and we'll probably not have two of Leeds, Charlton and Norwich in it, poss. all three. If they're replaced by the current CCC bottom three of Palace, Peterborough and Plymouth, there's a lot less to worry about there - we'll probably be joint favourites to win the division.

Of course, if we beat Walsall and Huddersfield in the next week, lots of people will get all excited about the playoffs again, me included. Realistically, to have any chance of making the top 6 by May, we need to have a fantastic March - Huddersfield, Leeds, Swindon and MK Dons - all above us. Win 3 of those (Leeds being the least important), and we make up ground on other contenders. After that we only have Brizzle Rovers and Charlton after Easter as teams above us.
