StuRomseySaint Posted 18 February, 2010 Share Posted 18 February, 2010 ... what's the best way nowadays? AdTrader? AutoTrader? Echo? Ebay? It's a Golf estate v5 by the way.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 18 February, 2010 Share Posted 18 February, 2010 EbAY`s a waste of time mate Autotrader has allways work for me.
explorer saint Posted 18 February, 2010 Share Posted 18 February, 2010 Try webuyanycar.com they will give you a price online, which they will confirm once they have seen it, if you're not happy with the price try other means. They will charge you £30 for the pleasure but it saves advertising and geting time waster round your house

Johnny Bognor Posted 18 February, 2010 Share Posted 18 February, 2010 Pistonheads is pretty good as an alternative to autotrader if your car is of particular interest to petrolheads.
miserableoldgit Posted 18 February, 2010 Share Posted 18 February, 2010 Watch out for the dodgy bastards that ring you up promising to find buyers for your car if you pay them £80 or so. They get your info from Auto Trader etc. Don`t touch them.

AND the drop-off point is 500 yards from my house... this could be a goer. Thanks for the tip.

69 saint Posted 19 February, 2010 Share Posted 19 February, 2010 See how much its worth here first then add more for a private sale http://www.webuyanycar.com/default.aspx?gclid=CLOkk7Oc_Z8CFV1d4wodGhqalA&ref=google&srch=we+buy+any+car
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 February, 2010 Share Posted 19 February, 2010 Pistonheads is pretty good as an alternative to autotrader if your car is of particular interest to petrolheads. Golf Estates need not apply and some of their forums need about 250gb of RAM to load them in under 10 minutes. More pics than a Master Bates thread of the old days. Chez Posted 19 February, 2010 Share Posted 19 February, 2010 ebay has the biggest audience so well worth a look. The starting price and reserve are critical aspects of the sale. It may be worth starting the auction at a quid as this will drum up interest and you will get a sale. However a reserve price will get you out of jail if not enough interest is there, but be realistic. If the reserve is too high then this may put people off. Its a fine balance. Also make sure the listing ends at a decent time. Just after Coronation street ends is a good idea. Make sure you are aware of all the fees from ebay and paypal etc. You have to be honest in yoru listing otherwise you will end up with a buyer who comes to collect/pay and decides no thank you very much because you've forgot to list that it has a dent or suchlike. Autotrader is probably the second best - now that they have a decent website. It might be an idea to do both.
Corporate Ho Posted 19 February, 2010 Share Posted 19 February, 2010 Couldn't you just ring Noddy and ask if he wants to buy it back off you?
Sev Posted 19 February, 2010 Share Posted 19 February, 2010 Golf Estates need not apply Sort of, but as Stu's is a V5 with a few extras, it can appeal to Golf geeks who need the practicality of an estate but still want a bit of power. You do see a few estates on owners forums and the V5 is quite rare especially as an estate - even more so if it's the later 170bhp version, so might be worth a post on http://uk-mkivs.net/ and http://www.golfv5.co.uk/ . If you just want to shift it quick, then as others have said stick with Auto Trader.
Michelle Posted 19 February, 2010 Share Posted 19 February, 2010 I popped onto webuyanycar.com t'other day, just out of interest to see what they would offer me. £1500 lower than the Parkers valuation! Shocking. Done well if they're offering you a decent amount Stu, always been under the impression they've been one of these companies who'll offer you something ridiculously low so if you're desperate for the money you'll just take their offer - exactly what I thought of my offer! Still a Golf estate and you can stick V5, TDi, GTI, R32 or whatever and it would still be a Golf Estate which for me ruins the brilliance of arguably one of the most succesful cars of all time in it's purest form. If you wanted to shift things quickly the Volvo T5 was the ultmate quick estate but a Volvo saloon was as big a dog as a Golf Estate. Some cars are only best in certain guises. The Golf estate is completely unnecessary and nothing but an ugly, badly designed after thought by VW. IMO Stu will need to almost give it away to get some interest. Sev Posted 19 February, 2010 Share Posted 19 February, 2010 Not exactly in disagreement with you - just pointing out that there will be some people like that who for such reasons might be keener than the average punter on Auto Trader looking for an estate to cart the dog around in. Mr Sparky Posted 19 February, 2010 Share Posted 19 February, 2010 I just sold my focus in autotrader. I wanted £2500 advertised at £27959, and got £2600. Tried those buyanycar people and they offered £1795 and then without looking at it revalued it at £1820. so basically I could be £805 out of pocket by taking their offer. Also watch out for scam emails pretending to be allsorts and also those people who ring and say "i have 3 (its always 3) people who are interested in your car. (Obviously have no internet)
