Salad: Officially not good for you

I have decided to give up fast food / alcohol for lent (except on the JPT Final, of course).

I had a salad from Asda in Totton yesterday for lunch.

When i opened it, the cellofane wrapper was all raised and i thought it a bit odd, but i was hungry and just ate it.

3 hours later, i was feeling sick, cold, shivering and went home from work.

Shortly after getting home, i was cuddling the loo, being violently ill - and that continued for the best part of last night.

I now have the headache from hell, sopping wet bed sheets (from sweat....) and am sooooo tired.

The moral of the story - fast food good - salad bad.

:(

Seriously - you should see your GP as it sounds like food poisoning. Whilst he might not be able to do too much for you, he will report it to the Public Health department and they will investigate to see if there's an problem with the manufacturer.

This is what happened to Mr TF. Outcome - manufacturer fined!

Oh and BTW - drink loads (non alcoholic) because you could get dehydrated and that's serious.

Hope you're feeling better soon

i did think that, but have thrown away the wrappers etc now so not sure anything can be done?

I've been drinking lucozade (i can keep it down now - water was a problem yesterday!) - so hopefully dehydration wont be a problem.

I think the moral of the story is that natural selection will always prevail! ;)

I joke, obviously. Food poisoning is a reeeeeal b!tch. Keep a bucket handy for the next couple of days...

Never mind days......

Mr TF's food poisoning was about 8 years ago. From time to time he gets real stomach problems (usually after a hot curry :)) but it does all relate back to the FP, honestly.

Blimey, guess it really can screw you up then. Luckily for me I seem to have a stomach of steel, food never makes me ill. My immune system however...

Just back from the quacks. He says it IS a case of FP and said to dose up on paracetamol and drink plenty of water - some will stay down if you drink enough!

Dog - no, the salad didn't have a sauce sachet, but had mayo in it, as well as chicken and bacon.

Swannymere - duly noted, and wont touch it if it is raised again.

I would go back to the Asda store that sold you this poison and raise hell.

Don't worry that you don't have the wrapper, you should let the store manager know.

There may be a public safety issue here, and other people may be affected. Imagine if a pensioner had been through what you went through.

I'm sure the manager will thank you for letting him know, and he may even see fit to 'compensate' you (unofficially and without prejudice).

as well as chicken and bacon.

Theres your culprit then, not the salad. I had a dose of campylobacter a few year ago, probably from a bbq. Never felt so ill before and never want to again.

As someone has said, report it even if you don't have the wrapper, in fact when I had mine the doc reported it to the H+S people who called me later in the week to find out where I'd eaten in the few days before getting ill.

Many many years ago I had a business lunch up near Staines.

Got food poisoning

Went to the docs, he did the tests and turned out to be Salmonella

I had no proof of where I ate, no receipt copy or anything else, just the medical report. I was called back by the Doc about two weeks later to say that he had received a note of thanks and that the Health Inspectors had checked the place and fined them.

Astonishingly about a month after I was ill I received a cheque for 50 quid and a letter of apology.

So

Yes get down to Asda. For their Customer Service department tell them you were advised on a popular internet forum, show them what you had bought.

At the worst they will say sorry, if they have any brains they'll give you a voucher that you will then come on here and tell everyone about which for Asda is good marketing practice.

(Oh BTW did the posioning affect your sleep patterns? The other thread will want to know)
