How much do you hate P*rtsmouth?

Followed on from another thread, what lengths do you go to when hating our neighbours?

I am in my 30's and have been to P*rtsmouth 5 times.

4 times for football.

1 time to go to the DVLA office.

I never have and never will shop in P*rtsmouth and most definately will never eat/drink there.

I am alone in this? Some of the PC brigade seem to think that we don't have that much of a rivalry.

I was stationed in Gosport whilst serving in the Army. I spent many happy days with some young pompey fillies. I also worked there in the 70's after finishing my time in the service.

Before the lies concocted by some sad bastards in Pompey to fuel the spark of hatred I was always able to wear saints stuff with no fear of recriminations. It baffles me as to why any football fan should hate another in the way that some do because of who they support.

I never shop there.

I go to Southsea very occasionally.

Have been to a few music gigs there.

Went there a couple of times in my childhood to get over to the Isle of Wight.

I'm in my late 20's now.

I only ever go there for work, I won't even have fish and chips there as I'm not eating something they've touched!

My wife often asks if she can go to Gunwarf, I tell her "you can go wherever you won't, but you won't be spending any of my money down there" she's never been :-)

how many of you have pompey mates? i know so many people who support pompey who are quality people. its good to have a local rival, but the pure hatred some people pretend to have is ridiculous. can anyone give me a genuine reason why we ''historically'' hate them?

The fact that after the 3rd goal went in actually felt ill (nowt to do with alcohol!), realising that they were going to beat us on our own patch, nothing else can give me that feeling, even England losing to Germany.

One of my mates who is a neutral came to Brentford away the other week with me and said he was amazed at the level of hatred our fans show towards them, even when we aren't playing them!

Despite the setback at the weekend, I can't wait for the balance to be re-addressed. I would give my right nut to get promoted and batter them in the Championship next season.

Oh and after we beat them with Marian's belter, I was visiting a mate who was at Uni there and lived in Southsea, I p!$$ed "3-0" up a wall with numbers as large as my aim could muster.

No.

I have one female friend who supports P*mpey. She only supports them through family so I can bear to be her mate as I don't have to have 'football chat' with her.

Some people, yourself included, live in a fantasy world where everyone lives in this happy little world and Saints and P*mpey fans mix together and are best of buddies.

That is wrong, for every Saints fan that thinks it's 'good to have a local rival' , there is at least 1 more who f*cking hates every last bit of them.

Another example of my hatred... once went out and got battered, met this VERY nice looking bird (well by my standards ) , she lived in Bedford Place. I had ran out of money so thankfully crashed at hers.

About 4 in the morning she made the announcement she was 1) A student ( reason enough to dislike the c*nt ) and 2) From P*rtsmouth.

With that, I went into the front room, took my taxi fare out of her purse and f"cked off... denying myself of an otherwise pleasant f"ck.

Thats hatred.

Do you need a reason??? My dad thought it would be a good idea to move the family to Havent when I was 11, I walked round the town with my saints shirt as I didn't know about the rivalry, after being chased by 4 or5 teenage skates back to my house I did realise, I blame my dad for letting me out in a saints shirt. It was the only place I ever lived which I hated, weird insular people.

My first time in Poopey was 84 at Fratton. I was 10. Remember the treatment we got that day.

Used to have to go there once or twice when working for Halifax.

Went once to Gunkywharf with the Mrs. Left our car with Saints sticker in the back in the car park. Emerged unscathed, unlike the other shoppers who really did have webbed feet and cojoined eyebrows.

Ran the Great South Run last October. What a sh1thole.

I avoid it like the plague.

Each to their own mate, I'm just a little particular about what I put in my mouth!!!!!!

Hate to say it but the reality is that the place that shall remain nameless actually is a much more interesting place to visit than our beloved Southampton, Gun Wharf in the heart of the Historic dockyard knocks spots off Ocean Village and west Quay or anything else we have on offer errr... sorry but it's a fact, why would anybody visit Southampton?

Maybe some people should seek clinical help. How its possible to 'hate' a city and to 'hate' other Hampshire people beggars belief. For those who never go there - you're missing an intersting place with Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower as well as the history in the dock yard. I just happen to like Southampton better and have always had closer associations here, as well as the football.

As for the football team in Portsmouth, surely its great that they exist so that occasions such as Saturday can come along every so often. I'm looking forward to beating them in the CCC next time we meet.

I have to work there all the time and it's ****ing horrible.

Was doing housing association work in Portsmouth just before Christmas, good money but just horrible. Makes my weeks working in Millbrook seem like a holiday.

Never shop there, never eat there, once went on the **** at Gunwharf and that was quite possibly one of worst nights of my life.

I am 54 years old and I have never even said the word Portsmouth out loud. My mum once came back from a shopping trip with a bag from a shop in Portsmouth. I couldn't help it, I just hit her. Not too hard, but enough for it to be felt. Then she told me that someone gave her the bag and I felt terrible. I found out which friend of hers gave her the bag and ended up ringing them in the early hours of morning, ****ed and calling them c*nts.

I'm not too keen on the club, but you really sound like you need some serious help.

i had the misfortune of not only being born there, but being forced to live there against my will until i was 27.

oh, i got married there as well :( but got my divorce from there :p

i was walking round gunkywharf earlier today, they all look like they've got downs syndrome

Do people with Downs Syndrome offend you then Keith? Are you jealous they have an extra chromosome? Or several more than your less than perfect self.

Portsmouth is an emerging city and I regularly visit as it has everything and all within walking distance. Then again I enjoy visiting Southampton but the regeneration has been less than successful IMO and West Quay a sprawling mass od consumerism. No doubt right up Keith's 'look at me' street.

You all need to grow up a bit really. All a little sad.

I agree but please don't tar us all with the same brush. The reality is, if any of these 'hard men' for whatever reason found themselves conversing with a Pompey fan they would act with accepted good grace and friendliness.

In fact I don't believe any of the stories on here and if they avoid a good day out seeing everything Portsmouth has to offer just because of football rivalry then they are truly the mindless thugs they like to portray themselves as.

I also suspect that none of them could explain the real reasons for the underlying hatred between the two cities which has nothing to do with football as historically both sets of supporters in generations gone by use to actually support the other's team when their's was playing away.

I like to see all our local clubs do well and Portsmouth is no exception. There is no obvious reasosn as is the case for Rangers and Celtic although I know plenty of protestant Celtic fans. It is a historic long forgotten issue that has shamelessly been allowed to attach itself to our two clubs and the ensuing mob rule. Scenes on the TV from the weekend were simply embarrassing and it was a case of cringe or laugh. I laughed at the idiots from both sides.

Portsmouth Hurricane Appeal

A major hurricane (Hurricane Shazza) and earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Portsmouth in the early hours of Friday with its epicentre in "Paulsgrove".

Victims were seen wandering around aimlessly, muttering "Faaackinell". The hurricane decimated the area causing approximately £30 worth of damage.

Several priceless collections of mementos from Majorca and the Costa Del Sol were damaged beyond repair. Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed. Many locals were woken well before their giros arrived. Skate FM reported that hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered and were still trying to come to terms with the fact that something interesting had happened in Paulsgrove.

One resident - Tracy Sharon Smith, a 15-year-old mother of 5 said, "It was such a shock, my little Chardonnay-Mercedes came running into my bedroom crying. My youngest two, Tyler-Morgan and Victoria-Storm slept through it all. I was still shaking when I was skinning up and watching Jeremy Kyle the next morning."

Apparently looting, muggings and car crime were unaffected and carried on as normal.

The British Red Cross has so far managed to ship 4,000 crates of Lambrini to the area to help the stricken locals. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings, including benefit books, jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos and Bone China from Poundland.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

This appeal is to raise money for food and clothing parcels for those unfortunate enough to be caught up in this disaster. Clothing is most sought after - items most needed include:

Fila or Burberry baseball caps

Kappa tracksuit tops (his and hers)

Shell suits (female)

White sport socks

Rockport boots

Any other items usually sold in Primark.

Food parcels may be harder to come by, but are needed all the same. Required foodstuffs include:

Microwave meals

Tins of baked beans

Ice cream

Cans of Colt 45 or Special Brew.

22p buys a biro for filling in the compensation forms.

£2 buys chips, crisps and blue fizzy drinks for a family of 9.

£5 buys B&H and a lighter to calm the nerves of those affected.

**Breaking news**

Rescue workers found a girl in the rubble smothered in raspberry alco-pop. 'Where are you bleeding from?' they asked, "Paulsgrove" said the girl, "woss that gotta do wiv you?

I'm impressed with the amount of thought, eloquence and clarity put into that post ;) good work.

I agree and all this hatred is just a desire to posture with the mob. Half of them don't know what caused the bitterness in the first place and it was nothing to do with football.

It's actually embarrassing and shameful to be associated with the idiots on both sides who persist with their hatred fuelled purely by alcohol and the need to feel the ability to be intimidating. Difficult to be intimidated by a bunch of saddo's leaning over some railings shouting at anything that moved and others running at a horse and then running backwards. Truly and utterly pathetic.

LOL - You lost me with that last comment about knowing plenty of protestant Celtic fans.

I hate to spoil your idealist world, but the hatred between Southampton and Portsmouth is one which is felt by many. Look at the people who were causing trouble on Saturday, alot of them were 'shirters' or 'beer monsters' who normally would not go for that kind of trouble but their pure hatred meant things spilled over.

And I can promise you that 95% of Saints fans would always want P*mpey to fail in any competition they entered.

Oh sh!t, I have just fallen for your trolling.
