toofarnorth Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Gap now to the playoffs. Thats a lot of points to make up!
70's Mike Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 STUPID THREAD we did not play today most other sides did it was bound to go up to 18
Amesbury Saint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 we have 2 games in hand but yes - too many points to make up.
alpine_saint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 STUPID THREAD we did not play today most other sides did it was bound to go up to 18 Agreed. But we need to 6 weeks of solid application in the League now. No excuses.
Appy Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Show the same level of performance for the rest of the season as we did today, we will certinaly not be a million miles away.
Saint_Donovan Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Probably too much even though weve got 2 games in hand of most teams, weve got to keep pushing though and if nothing else it will help bond the team for a run at automatic promotion next season.... ....but its not over until the final whistle of the final day!!!!!!
S-Clarke Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 It's a long shot, we will need to win pretty much every week from now on to even scrape in.
70's Mike Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Show the same level of performance for the rest of the season as we did today, we will certinaly not be a million miles away. plus same level of support
Thedelldays Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 too much now...I would have played a reserve team earlier in the FA cup and not have had today
Glasgow_Saint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 too much now...I would have played a reserve team earlier in the FA cup and not have had today .+1
shurlock Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 (edited) If it hadn't been for Millwall's late winner, it would have been a good day's results. Alot of draws - and we now have two games in hand. Taking into account Norwich and Wycombe, six of our last seven game will have been away from home, so we've got home advantage to look forward to. Today's result has focussed the mind - not just because we're out of the FA cup but because we will taste high-stakes games like today only if we go up. Lets really go for it and see how close it takes us. Like today, there's nothing to lose. Edited 13 February, 2010 by shurlock
daveygwyatt Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 its not over... its a big ask but we CAN get to around 72 points ( that may be enough)..we wont lose more than 1 maybe 2 games, it just depends if we can turn these bloody draws into wins
Psycrow Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Gap now to the playoffs. Thats a lot of points to make up! If we can make them up it will be easy. Ah.. we beat Harchester United on Jan 11th... that's 3 point..... We beat Melchester Rovers on 14th Dec.... That's another 3 points.... We beat Fulchester United on 19th Oct... That's 3 more 9 points already! We're quids in!
ludgershallsaint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Last 16 games - 10 at home and of the 6 away none of the big boys. IF we can get to 40 points after the next two I'll still believe there is a chance.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Still possible for Saints to get 88 points this season. Only about 76 needed for the playoffs. Have faith.
Cabrone Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 I also think it's too much now. Maybe if they win the next league games on the trot we might get back into contention but I can't see it myself. PS: Great performance today, I thought they did themselves proud.
Window Cleaner Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Still possible for Saints to get 88 points this season. Only about 76 needed for the playoffs. Have faith. Looking at the table I'd be amazed if anyone gets into the play-offs with much less than 80 points.I just can't see anyone going into a tailspin and not getting at least 28 points from their remaining games.
doddisalegend Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 (edited) too much now...I would have played a reserve team earlier in the FA cup and not have had today Fair enough but I really enjoyed today (well apart from the score) and the match against Ipswhich, games like these are the ones fans remember in thier old age not the league matches. Im sure in the next few years we will reach the heady hieghts of mid table obscruity in the EPL and everyone will be happy. In the mean time I plan to enjoy watching saints play even in the pointless cup competitions. Edited 13 February, 2010 by doddisalegend
Ewell Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 It is going to be bloody hard but I still think we can do it, but I do agree that it is a long shot. We have to pick up 4-5 wins on the bounce to have a chance!
Thedelldays Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 starting with......Norwich away oh well
Window Cleaner Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Stupid thread. Not compared to the one about goal times
up and away Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Agreed. But we need to 6 weeks of solid application in the League now. No excuses. We have plenty of excuses. We are a good to average league 1 side who have spunked it all in the cups. Very little chance now, so we can just build for next season and Wembley.
alpine_saint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 We have plenty of excuses. We are a good to average league 1 side who have spunked it all in the cups. Very little chance now, so we can just build for next season and Wembley. So you disagree that some solid application to the League for the next 6 weeks until the JPT final is good preparation for next season ?
darren Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 It's only 18 points if you think millwall will finish in the top 6, I don't think they will. 14 behind huddersfield with game in hand is what i look at. And one of our games in hand is against huddersfield at home so theres still a chance.
saint_jas Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Probably is too much. But I am bloody glad I have a club to support after last season / summer. Think it was too much to ask for a play-off position anyway with no pre season. But nice to have a wembley appearance in a mickey mouse cup
alpine_saint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Look, So what if it is too much ???? We need to behave like it isnt, so we dont hit the ground running next season, we hit it with a rocket up our arses. Why do so few people get that ?
Badger Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 The play offs,in my view, are beyond us. By the way,we are only four points above the drop zone.
Ponty Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Look, So what if it is too much ???? We need to behave like it isnt, so we dont hit the ground running next season, we hit it with a rocket up our arses. Why do so few people get that ? Alpine's right. It doesn't matter how improbable the play offs are. We need to play like reaching them is everything that matters and let the rest take care of itself.
ART Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 The sad thing is that we are only 4 points off the bottom three. These rose colored spectacles you all wear doesn't hide the fact that we haven't done anywhere as well as we should be doing. Nicolas didn't look a very happy bunny at all today!
shurlock Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Nicolas didn't look a very happy bunny at all today! Is that a fact?
SaintBobby Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 The sad thing is that we are only 4 points off the bottom three. These rose colored spectacles you all wear doesn't hide the fact that we haven't done anywhere as well as we should be doing. Nicolas didn't look a very happy bunny at all today! Really? He seemed pretty relaxed to me, from where I was sitting (3 rows behind him). We aren't going to make the play-offs unless we hit an incredible run of form (we probably need 2.5 points a game or something mental). We ain't going to get relegated either. We'll win League One next season with 90-100 points. I genuinely believe that.
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 too much now...I would have played a reserve team earlier in the FA cup and not have had today Had we have won, you would not have this view.
Thedelldays Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 Had we have won, you would not have this view. of course not..had steve wigley won the premier league I would not have thought he was crap

You may believe it but at the moment there is little evidence based on League form that is why I agree with Alpine the next couple of months is extremely important. The team must show it can win games and produce excellent results both at home and away
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 of course not..had steve wigley won the premier league I would not have thought he was crap Except that today's match seemed winnable for much of the game and, on another day, would have been won. Wigley wouldn't have won the league unless the other 19 teams had all been liquidated. That's the pretty sizeable difference. As the poster said, you only view the FA cup campaign as pointless through the benefit of hindsight.

JustMike Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 Agreed. But we need to 6 weeks of solid application in the League now. No excuses. now this i agree with. Should be aided by the fact that all those that were cuptied can get a longer run in the team.

Hope the JPT final is worth it?
JustMike Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 I can vouch for this..... cup comps have cost us dear this season..... Hope the JPT final is worth it? sorry but if we had have got knocked out of both cups early then people would have been moaning that AP wasnt taking it seriously enough! Cant win

Glasgow_Saint Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 If it was not for the Cup Competions the Season would be crap Maybe the season has been crap because of the cup competitions? Too much focus, too many games? Guess we will never know, but AP will need an excuse if/when we fail to make PO. I would guess cups will be it?

AP does not need an excuse -10 and Administration is the reason we are not in the playoffs Plus the fact we lost our best players from last season and AP had to build a team Edited 14 February, 2010 by John B
Lord Duckhunter Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 The -10, plus the start we had, made the play offs pretty impossible in the first place. Great to have a Wembley visit and a decent FA Cup run. People like Fonte, Lambert and NC/ML themselves would have seen what support and passion we're capable of, and they'll see it at Wembley again.Hopefully these cup runs will have cemented, the players, Pards and NC/ML faith in the Club and make getting in more quality during the summer easier.
saintbletch Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 I can vouch for this..... cup comps have cost us dear this season..... Hope the JPT final is worth it? Whilst I'd agree that two cups may have taken our eye off the ball in the League, you are ignoring the 2 x 30K crowds we've just had at SMS. The feeling of support at SMS in the last two games has been stunning. I think our average attendance will increase this season and hopefully into the next few too. These two runs have set us up for the next 2-3 years far better than a slow creep towards an almost always unlikely play-off position ever could. But I do take your point that it was a choice, and that we may have prioritised in a way that you think was wrong. Don't take this in the way that on the surface it might come across, but living away from the city you've probably got a different perspective to people who've attended the last two cup games. And for Markus Liebherr, the ability to fly all his friends and family into the UK and host them in a box at Wembley is probably the sort of thing that a) made him invest in the first place and b) will keep him investing in years to come. No regrets for me.

Guess we will never know, but AP will need an excuse if/when we fail to make PO. I would guess cups will be it? Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that starting the season on -10 is a pretty good excuse. But only if we are within 10 points of the playoffs come the end of the season, which I think we will be. People may say that our cup runs have harmed our chances of reaching the playoffs, and they may well be correct, but none of us seriously expected us to get to the playoffs this year after starting on -10 and not appointing a manager until just a few weeks before the first game did we? I know I didn't anyway. So I think that our cup runs this year have been a welcome distraction, and a good way of showing that we mean business.

No regrets for me. Hey dont get me wrong, I realise the cup runs have been top banana, but NC spelt it out last week. The league is/was and always has been the priority this season. The cups have united the city/club but who do you really think will be more pleased with achievements this season? Norwich? Leeds? Charlton? or us? We have got two full houses this week - However if we were in the playoffs now fighting for the top places in the league, we'd have near full houses every week. imo
