alpine_saint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Plays a blinder against us this afternoon, then watch him make a complete calamity f**k-up of Englands World Cup campaign this summer
Justin C Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 I hope he does play for England he was ace today. But in thes second half he was holding his groin and kept throwing the ball out.
Chez Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 he made some very god saves but he still let a corner go straight through his hands that went onto jardi's head. On another day he could have made the mistake that cost them.
CanadaSaint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 he made some very god saves but he still let a corner go straight through his hands that went onto jardi's head. On another day he could have made the mistake that cost them. It's very telling that his big saves are nearly always instinctive, reaction saves. If he has to think about it he's screwed. Just as England would be if he played for us. Frankly, I'm hoping it's a persistent groin injury that doesn't heal until after the World Cup.
barney Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Brilliant shot stopper crap coming for crosses+corners. Too many mistakes for a world class keeper.
St Landrew Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Kelvin came out for a corner today and caught the ball brilliantly. Took me back about 30 years when all keepers used to do it.
sadoldgit Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 James did well today apart from one major howler. But I wish we had finished better, we gave him the chances to make the saves.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 If it weren't for James, the Skates would have been out of it. Important to remember that.
Rebel Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 he made a couple of great saves today - and one truly world class save he made a massive difference in the first half
Saint_Donovan Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 He is a very gifted athlete but he turns into a clumsy turd when he has to make decisions.
Saints Warrior Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 James is crap England should get rid of him. I dont want to go abroad and spend good money just to see a skate in goal for England..Overpaid odd ball...
aintforever Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 It's a sad state of afairs that he's even considered for England, good shot stopper, nothing else.
VectisSaint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Plays a blinder against us this afternoon, then watch him make a complete calamity f**k-up of Englands World Cup campaign this summer Actually he didn't play a blinder. He made a couple of monumental ****ups which could and should have fallen better for us. He made one top class save, but he really didn't play a blinder by any stretch of the imagination. Still if it helps people feel better about the result to think their keeper played well then c'est la vie.
saint.tom.clancy Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 He made at least 4 goal-scoring saves today, they would have been f*cked without him. That said though he is sh!t at crosses and collecting the ball.
Toadhall Saint Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Plays a blinder against us this afternoon, then watch him make a complete calamity f**k-up of Englands World Cup campaign this summer Bastard!
alpine_saint Posted 13 February, 2010 Author Posted 13 February, 2010 I still get the p*ss taken out of me here about that World Cup Qualifier against Austria when we were cruising then Calamity f**ked up twice to let Austria come back into it and nearly beat us.
thesaint sfc Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 He's a brilliant goalkeeper and I'd actually feel pretty lucky being an England fan to have him if he played for any club. But he doesn't play for any other club, so he's a ****, fat skate bastard
saintmonkey1979 Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 IMO, man of the match, and has to be, which says alot for us and the chances we created.
Charlie Wayman Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Capello's deputy and Brooking were in the director's box today presumably looking at Calamity. I guess he did well enough. They left before Ricky scored so it looks like he's not in the frame even on 24 goals.
Ewell Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 He fumbled at least two crosses today but despite some good saves he is no England keeper for me! The worst thing is we are really struggling with keepers these days which is a big shame as we used to produce so many good ones! It is a shame Kirkland is so injury prone as I feel he is the best of a bad bunch!
dubai_phil Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 Kelvin came out for a corner today and caught the ball brilliantly. Took me back about 30 years when all keepers used to do it. Thanks for that. We were still in shock to find a new law that came into effect today banning alcohol sales from 3-6pm in all outlets except 5 star hotels meaning we have to drink Latte's rather than beers. I thought it was withdrawal symptoms when I saw him make that claim. Also, the same effect may have interfered but I don't actually recall seeing Waigo caught naively offside this afternoon. Thought he was worse than BWP?
SaintBobby Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 He was utterly superb, unfortunately. One error (the ball going through his hands from a corner in the first half), but it wasn't punished and I don't think even a Drogba/Torres would have converted. If we'd caught James on a bad -or even mediocre - day, we would probably have won. Annoyingly, he turned in a 9.5/10 performance. I don't think that much improves England's chances of wining the World Cup or Portsmouth's chances of remaining in existence, but it was a sporting reality for 90 minutes today.

When you say "we" Alpine were you talking about England or Austria??? And to be fair, you get the p*ss taken out of you for most things you say.

Are you waiting for me to log out to come crawling out from under your stone ? Simples Alpine, the Mods have decided to give me infraction points even though you have been your usual abusive self, and you simply aren't worth getting into bother over. If you can't find anything to feel good about by supporting a football club that is your issue. I feel sorry for you.
stevegrant Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 While the saves he made looked good, if Papa Waigo and Adam Lallana had been able to put any sort of power behind their efforts, he wouldn't have had a hope in hell of saving most of them. Very frustrating.
maxi_sopez Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 i thought the goal was gonna collapse when he kung fu kicked it

Very frustrating. Yes I agree but I think Waigo may have thought he was offside Well he sometimes is;)

Window Cleaner Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 Yes I agree but I think Waigo may have thought he was offside Well he sometimes is;) Nope he has no control on his header because he's not that good with his head, I think mental pace might be just Papa's biggest default, he's not instinctive in front of goal. The obvious move was back across James to the other post, same as Lallana's header really but neither player has the composure or instinct that it takes...yet. Connolly would have scored both of those, plus the other Papa chance and the shot Lallana muffed and he'd have screamed at Barnard to leave the ball alone for our offside goal. It's a real shame that Connolly isn't fit because we'd be 4 points nearer the play-offs and into the 6th Round of the Cup if he was.

I will check the Waigo miss again but I thought he hesitated but your general point is very true we lack a true second out and out striker with an instinct for goal. Still dont really understand why Pardew did not get Saga playing Perhaps Barnard maybe that person but we will have to wait and see.

Because the third division was beneath his dignity and he probably had his bonuses cut.
Smirking_Saint Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 James got the luck that unfortunately Davis did not get saturday. Like thomas' head from the corner that hit his arm, and the goal that Davis got a leg to that still went in. Still, if he wears the three lions i hope he gets that luck again.
John B Posted 17 February, 2010 Posted 17 February, 2010 He has given us a good write up here http://www.tribalfootball.com/portsmouth-no1-james-southampton%E2%80%99s-lambert-big-lump-dangerous-648811
