no matter how well we played and the two division excuse, it hurts, hurts like hell. Like a knife in the stomach. Its going to take a long time to put this one behind me.

Just home, enjoyed the game. Crowd were great! Wish we had taken 2 out of the four good chances in first half.

Took my 10 year old grandson to his first local derby. Not sure I would do it again. Surrounded in the Chapel by pure hatred, every swear word imaginable. The moron behind me could not speak without including a four letter word. Spent most of the game standing shouting abuse. Took no notice of loads of young children sat in front of him. Took the shine off the day for me.

what do you expect by taking him to a saints pompey match?

Couldn't disagree more. Lallana was my man of the match and as well as creating lots had a few good chances where he did very little wrong. His header would have been in against 99% of goalkeepers, it truly was a world class save.

He made tackles all over the pitch and no one on the pitch today worked harder than he did. Playing like he did today he would be knocking on the door of many a premiership squad.

PS also thought Spiderman and Hammond were immense in midfield.

+1 Lallana totally committed and only one who can creat time to put his foot on the ball. Class act

You don't mind losing to a team like that but you hate losing to their fans. What a bunch of mindless imbeciles. While walking towards St. Marys I turned and saw about a 1000 Pompey fans charging the police. It's a shame to see and I have to give all the players credit for making it pretty trouble free on the pitch. They will have bragging rights for a few days and then we can move on.

I know we had our first choice defenders out but that doesn't change the fact that he was 5 yards away from Quincy-Awusu when he got the ball, and just backed-off instead of puttign a challenge in.

if you challenge and

1) win the ball, then we've got the ball inside the final 3rd and have a chance of scoring.

2) commit a foul, it gives our players time to get back and re-group whilst they take the free-kick.

Backing-off and lettign their bloke run 70yards unchallenged puts us under pressure, which showed.

Not saying your wrong just saying i expected these mistakes from the likes of Thomas towards the end of the game. Hence why Pardew has signed Murty, Fonte, Otsemobor etc.. Thomas is not the best it showed at times, but he gave his all so i won't slate him.

never felt so gutted and proud at the same time

Thats exactly how I feel. We just need to show that kind of passion ever week on the pitch and in the stands. We do at home at least because we are always 10 out of 10 with our away support. APRAWA WHP

totally disagree it was only when he had ball we looked dangerous, we need to hold onto him not moan about him.

never seen him tackle so much and he was not the only one guilty of missing chances,

one comment to AP find someone else to take corners and free kicks from out wide.

Crpwd in all areas was brilliant the club was offically re born today even in defeat we were winners.

Everyone around me agrees with you. Lallana looked Premiership class today. David James proved why he is the best keeping the land right now, on at least three occasions.

Loved the game and atmosphere but not the result. Fans were absolutely brilliant but wtf was this:

However, a few vids for those interested (I know it was on tele but you don't get the real atmosphere watching it!)

The score line flattered pompey TBH.

We didn't deserve to lose 4-1 , I can't fault the effort from the players- pretty much everyone gave 100 % .

If we had got a goal in the firs-half it could have been all different but that shows why it was League 1 v Prem - they were much more clinical then us.

Brilliant atmosphere- surely the best ever at St'Marys.

Our slow defence couldn't deal with their counter- everything cam down the left with Belhadj and Owusou- Abeyi , who's pace was deadly.

My saints MOTM: Lallana.

At least we went for it and didn't sit back.

Heads up.

Anybody in the Kingsland block 33 see the guy dressed as W******d with a monkey mask and chained up in red and white chains? I thought it was brilliant but some chump at the back thought it was the real one and started throwing coins down, hitting a kid in front of me.

Posted

Did anybody see the guy in Itchen pretty much on half way line dressed himeself up as an arab then stood on his seat waiving about £500 at the Pompey fans.....pricless! lMAO

Good effort by the lads, there's no point in over-analysing it in the end - we were beaten by superior fitness, pace and finishing - which is why they're premiership players, and we have league 1 players - that is the difference.

The heart, effort and attitude was right today - i couldn't fault it, but we lacked that composure at the crucial time - everything seemed to fall to Lallana and Papa!

O'hara might be a little **** - but he was the best player on the pitch in the 2nd half, without him and the pace of the attack they have nothing (and they're all on loan...)

At least we have prospects with a bright future - it hurts like **** at the moment, but this will just be a hollow victory for them - you wait till we meet them in a year or so...the outcome will be totally different.

4-1 was a cup match result. Saints would not have gone all out on attack at the end that led to the break away goals in the final 10 minutes if that had been a league match.

The difference was in Saints' failure to take their chances. If there was a tactical error, it was having Rickie Lambert take the free kicks and corners when he is our greatest quality in front of goal. Also a shame that Connolly wasn't fit enough to play, but a great game all the same.

Posted

Just reading the BBC report, they agree with us and the scoreline was very flattering.

We also have 17 shots in the game compared to P*mpeys 11. Against Premier league oppostion, that is good going. Just needed to take those chances in the first half.

100% correct with all you said. Some of the reaction from some other posters is pathetic....

A spirited battle but our final ball & delivery let us down yet again (& not taking our chances). Great ball winning & we were the better team 1st half but they caught us on the break & exploited our defences lack of pace (Fonte would have been such an asset today!). Felt sorry for Perry's mistake which gifted em a goal cos he made sooooo many vital interceptions. Wasn't too happy with our aimless hooding & ball watching on occasions. Papa's touch wasn't great today & I wonder why Lambet take corners when he's so dangerous in the box?! Set piece, Harding tajes...Lambert. Goal. I rest my case!

All in all, great fans, great atmosphere. Good battle but their better quality on the ball shone through last 20mins. Thought Davis was a bit suspect with his positioning today but it's a result I expected, just hoped not quite as bad.

Posted

Antonio's final ball this season has been poor but today it was excellent. The mazy run and cross in the second half was as good as you'll see and Lallana should have buried it.

twas a fantastic bit of play by him, we need to see more of that.

I think that was a fantastic save by James though tbh - lallana didn't do too much wrong.

The lad dressed as the arab was really funny. Ml was laughing Marc jacob would not look at him and I think you can see in the photo Storrie not looking. Many people laughinh.

As for the game, a decent finisher and we would have scored 3 in the first half. Considering they are PL they only relied on counter attacks and we paid the price. Ohara was their only player with any spirit and had he not played they were poor.

Belhadj came to life second half and was good in attack.

Lallana has been talked up, but to me he gets the position and thenm has a powder puff attempt on goal. Not PL class IMO

The team did well and i didnt expect to win

They took their chances and we didn't....in the first half they looked a team low on confidence and they had the fans to match, the second half they started to beleivebin themselves a bit but we should have won the game in the first half when they looked defeated.

There biggest battle comes on Wednesday whereas we are on the up so I'm not too depressed about the result.

I saw that the kid was in my row , i think it was actually a lighter the arsehole threw.

It was so obviously a ****take cant believe the amount of our fans that got upset about it.

Console yourself that they have the residue of players on fat wages because they are a Premiership side (just), but that those very same wage levels that enable them to buy a bit of extra quality to shine against a team a couple of divisions lower, will actually kill them as a club.

Ultimately, our wounds will heal knowing that we are a club on the up and that as soon as a week after the match, they could disappear into oblivion.

On a performance like todays, we ought to have too much for Carlisle and win at Wembley as a consolation. A year from now, we might be storming away with the division, whereas they may be playing in the Blue Square.

Posted

We had our chances but our lads played well and clearly did their best. Well done to AP and all the Team. You were great. Now we can look forward to Wembley and in 2 weeks this game will be forgotton except that Saints will have learned a lot from it.

Posted

Thought Hammond and Lambert were immense today. Lallana played well but too many poorly hit efforts on goal. I just hope we can play like that for the rest of the season.

Posted

At least we got a goal to celebrate. I've not seen the place go that mental in quite a long time. That was amazing.

Loved the game and the atmosphere, proud of the lads and anybody who watched the game would have seen a League 1 side give a very very good account of themselves.

Posted

Saints played a brilliant first half and if we had taken our chances then game over. At least it was an attacking effort from Saints.

Skate fans were quiet , very quiet untill they scored so the blue few didnt turn up again!

Skates were no way a prem outfit and I just hope they get relegated, go bust and thier ground catches fire!! within 6 days!!

Just back from the game..was sat right nest to the away fans at the front of block 3

my take...

they are crap

they scared us with pace

Jaidi is a rock

the atmosphere was great

we should have been at least 2-0 up at HT

Lallana was superb (apart from his finishing)

O'Hara is waaay too good for them

that is about it...NO WAY was that a 4-1 defeat in term of play....

I felt proud of the lads..they gave it their all and deserved much more

Good summary.

Good performance, just a bit naive in the last 15 minutes getting outnumbered by quick counter attacking. What was a shame was Schneiderlin's miss kick across the area that led to the knock on for the first goal.

The thing to do is take the positives, play that way for the rest of the season, and enjoy the death throws of today's victors as their story unfolds. Will they even be around when we are at Wembley on March 28th is a question yet to be answered.

They won the battle today but unless they find an owner like ours in the next fortnight I know who will win the war. I wouldn't swop places with them for all the tea in China.

Funny that, "powder puff" was exactly what was going through my head about all of his efforts today. Good footballing brain and gets into the right positions but then it usually goes pear shaped.

Easy to be critical from afar but he put it too close to James. In the corner and James has no chance.

And it's mostly down to lack of power. The left footed volley from about 10 yds out in the second half, a bit of power in that shot and it would have been a goal.

Jay,

All teams that go into administration are basically insolvent. We gave our all, but that little bit of extra quality shone through. We are on the up they are on the way down. I dont want them to go under, i wouldn't want any club to go under. But in this case I would hate that to be our last game against them

Thing is when a business gets to the point where they cant afford to continue they are legally oblidged to take administration or liquidate so they do not continue to make matters worse. If its proved that Poopy have been at that point for some time then they have illegally continued to trade. Thats where the legal people will be fighting any battles. trying to prove one way or another that poopey did or didnt know that they were toast.

If its proved they knew and have done for some time then the can of worms will open on if they should have even had a game today. Like I said I would rather take the defeat and move on than be re-instated based on some legal wrangling.

The Prem league want them to take admin but unless they can pay off the people attached to the winding up petition they dont have a choice. So its going to cost them a min of 11 mil just to be able to put them selves into admin. If they do that what happens then? Transfer window has finished so the administrators will have no assets to sell off to even attempt to satisfy any further creditors.

There only way out of it IMO is if some mug buys them and pays off there debts. 60 mil for a team on route to the CCC doesnt sound like the best of business decissions so I very much doubt there is any buyers waiting in the wings and Storie Teller has just bought some extra time.

So its highly likly that the Winding up petition goes ahead and there is a strong possibility that they are wound up and liquidated. Someone gets a buy in the quater finals which im not sure has been done before so thats when I think someone from our side will try to get us back in the FA Cup.

As I said before I would rather take the defeat today and just get on with it. We played well enough to be proud of the team and we still have a wembley trip to look forward too and if the team can play like they did today for the rest of the season then maybe that final play off place is still achievable. The teams we face wont have David James in goal who I thought played well today but also got his fare share of luck. he knew nothing about saving that header with his elbow and he was routed to the spot when RJ headed over.

We shall see though

will add (again) O'Hara is way too good for them..he was the best player on the pitch today by a mile....shame the rest of his team are turd

I too thought he was the best player on the park.

The yids midfield must be awesome if he can't get in it!

I V+ the game...am watching it again now...I think I will cry at all the missed chances in the 1st half

Heh. I recorded it too in hope of a famous victory which I could watch over and over but I can't decide whether I want to watch it now. Might be interesting to see what the commentators and pundits say about us, I suppose.

agree....he seemed to have a free role coming in from the left if you get me..

very good little player..other than him (and their general pace) I thought they were rubbish..

I've still got the FA cup final on tape, never watched it. Just can't bring myself to see us lose it again.
