Tried to book Le Reggata for tomorrow night, fully booked, balls. I don't really know any nice restaraunts other than that in Southampton and as it's my wifeys birthday she will not be happy about me leaving it so late to book. Can I have some suggestions please???? Spanish would be good or Italian

Ennios is very very good, miles better than la margheritta.

Itallian and seafood specialists i believe, the whitebait is awesome.

Sounds nice, bit late now, I have jumped the gun and been impulsive.

Try KARA (turkish/Mediterranean style opposite hollyrood church) had belly dancers there friday night and does a cracking sea bass with rice and salad. Worked out at £40.00 a for three courses with wine for the two of us

Good on you kip, can you let us know how you get on please.

PS

Be on the lookout for our pesky cousins from along the coast, one or two might miss their afternoon trains I hear.

I think they were Turkish the dark hair(one dark the other blonde) kept making rude gesture to me with her tougue and brought me a glass of wine. Think maybe a lesbo

La Pergola in Lyndhurst is nice if you fancy a stretch in the country...

That's a pretty good place, seconded. It's all good, if a bit kitch in design - but very friendly, I've always had excellent service, the food is always good - but if you are a pudding person, you MUST go. They have an array of pretty stunning home-made stuff there all the time. Haven't been for a while, but I'm assuming this still applies.

Kippy in the pub for ten with a meal planned for the evening. I'd like to be a fly on the wall for that one.

He did say he was taking Mrs Kipster to the match, so she'll either have him on a very short leash or it'll all end in tears in a cell at the local nick :p

Ha ha I bought it in Vienna, nice and warm. The meal was a bit of a let down and by 10.30pm the staff started cleaning all around us as we were the last to leave. The pianist in the hotel bar didn't even know OWTS.

Pre-match rating 10/10.

Post-match rating 5/10 (mainly for the bumper cars and winning an orange monkey on a coconut shy type thing)

Cheers mr k, hope you didn't tip? It is so short sighted when they do stuff like that. For example; reading your short report means that I will not even try them now, lose, lose in my book. That must have made you feel so welcome!!!

I leave tips, but ONLY do nowadays when it is warranted. I am not an ar sehole, I just don't get why it is 'expected', and far too many people expect it over here nowadays. people quote how it is in other countries, but in other countries (in the main) staff give 'service' naturally meanoing people tip naturally.

btw, we went to the Jewel in The Crown last night, 12 of us. A decent meal, inconspicuous service and we ate and drank and chatted through 3 couples on the adjoining table. At no point did we feel rushed. Decent tips followed as will future custom.

..and now have told you, they may even get more custom from our visit. Too many establishments make do imho and foolishly forget that reputations canb take years to create and can be ruined in one night.

We should have a SWF 'what's on' 'eating out' and 'best pubs' forum. Baj and Steve could even sell advertising praps?
