um pahars Posted 20 September, 2008 Share Posted 20 September, 2008 For someone who claims to be savvy Im surprised at that comment.I have tried to be civil but it doesnt seem to work. 500K would be the fee and of course Moore being at Derby would mean he was on a decent wage. Can you quantify that 1 more would be enough then? I would say we would need at least 3 more to make a real difference and a 500k saving owuld go near that.Unless you know better about signing on fees and wages for players off loaded by PL top CCC clubs. Wll I never said anything about fees, I said we should have looked around for free transfers and used the money we spent signing various youngsters (including their wages) on some seasoned pros. I would have also shipped out a few others to fund this. You were the one quoting specific numbers, not me. All I (and many others) have been saying that rather than going for broke in signing youngsters and bringing others through, that perhaps we should have gone a middle way of utilising those that are ready, along with getting in some old heads. We had a choice in what players we got, in exactly the same way as we had a choice over what players we went for. Finances may of course limit some of those decisins, but there were still choices to be had. It is rather naive to assume that Poortvliet was our only option as a manager, and again rather naive to assume that the players he got in (or did he???) were the only ones we could have got in. hughieslastminutegoal Posted 20 September, 2008 Share Posted 20 September, 2008 Just an thought. Usually clubs develop maybe one even two players in a season sometimes none at all. If we managed to bring through say 5 or 6 with others queuing up to play, that could really work in our favour.UOTE] You've answered your own point in the first sentence. Historically in the last 12 or so years we have not done any better than the average club, though we may just have done a tad better that average recently with Theo and Bale so close together - but there is no real sign of any repeat. People have managed to convince themselves (as has Lowe) that somehow we can suddenly produce 5 or 6 on a regular basis. In recent years Crewe have come closest - and what have they to show for it, really? There was one club that made a success of it in the 60s - Burnley - and as soon as a temporary hot spell dried up it was down all the way.

As I intimated there is no such thing as a free. The youngsters are much cheaper to run and the easiest way to slash costs. I would love the club to have money to spend on a few older players but the vast costs of seasoned pros is ridiculous.also the club have busted a gut to get rid of some of the others but there have been no takers due to the high wages etc they are on. i mentioned 500k for the reason you mentioned not buying Morgan and using thatr money
