alpine_saint Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 Just goes to show what a closed corrupt shop the PL and Scudamore really are. Still think the Sheff Utd / West Ham situation was a f**king disgrace.
Tomobz Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 surely assistance means just a loan? putting them more into trouble for when they get relegated. if they go down this year they are destined to go into admin, its a case of when not if
ladysaint Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 No more than what was expected really, not saying its right, but couldnt see the PL letting them go under.
Miffy Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 http://www.tribalfootball.com/premier-league-open-financial-assistance-portsmouth-635681 Why? It would mean automatic relegation and leave them potless for their season in the CC. I don't want to see them go bust, just drop to their rightful place in Div 2. This would help them get there. red&white56 Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 It's all about protecting their own interests - if helping Pimply means their franchise remains valuable then they won't think twice about finding a way to do it and then justifying it ! That's the trouble - it's all about money and nothing else.....................
SFC Forever Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 (edited) How the hell can they do that? If they back Pompey by giving them a sub the rest of those struggling and short of funds will be going spare. Some of them have been prudent so they don't end up in the same mess. How can it be justified? Edited 11 February, 2010 by SFC Forever
Sheaf Saint Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 I'm not surprised for one second that the PL would consider this, to protect their brand image they would probably try anything as football is so corrupt. But can you imagine the the lawsuits from other clubs who have been punished for financial mismanagement? I don't think it will happen. Even the PL, the lords of the corrupt football industry in this country, would not do something which will open them up to the kind of backlash that it is sure to create. stevegrant Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 While I could see the Premier League doing it to protect the "brand image", I can only see that ending in one way - with a massive court case, brought by teams who are perceived to be disadvantaged by the proposed bailout. Windmill Arm 2 Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 Who cares, they are down anyway, and once the FL get hold of them, they'll tear them to shreds, they'll be in L2 before they know it.
pedg Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 Two scenarios that the PL are hoping will not happen if they do this: 1) Pompey stay up 2) A team is relegated but would have been safe if pompeys results had been removed. 1 is looking less likely now with the 8 point gap to safety but 2 could still be quite possible and would make for an interesting case, especially if it can be shown that they were operating while insolvent and the PL did not do enough (i.e. take head out of sand) to check if they were or not. derry Posted 12 February, 2010 Share Posted 12 February, 2010 There are three camps involved and it's by no means a shoe in. Some teams have taken 6 points off Pompey - for, Teams who have taken 3 points, for, about 6 teams no change. There are teams that will move up if they go, top and bottom, they will be against. The comparison tables are in the mail.
Arizona Posted 12 February, 2010 Share Posted 12 February, 2010 It stands to reason that teams benefiting and losing out will be pretty much equal. Afterall, most teams have taken at least 3 points off Pompey this season, they can't all move up in the league. Some of the teams who have taken 3 points will still benefit if Pompey's results were expelled because they'd gain points relative to those who have gained 4 or 6 points. If it came to a vote, I'd guess at it being a roughly 50/50 split.
revolution saint Posted 12 February, 2010 Share Posted 12 February, 2010 I'd say give them the advance parachutte payment AND a 15 point deduction. If they want to set a precedent then it needs to be a precedent that clubs don't want to follow. The good thing about this is that they'll still be free to go into admin in the championship where we all know they'll have every rule in the book thrown at them. If Leeds, Bournemouth and Luton can have excessive points deductions then I think Pompey will be on a par with them.
Arizona Posted 12 February, 2010 Share Posted 12 February, 2010 To give an advance on the parachute payments, the PL would surely have to relegate them. Possibly by giving them a points deduction which would be mathematically impossible to overhaul.

They get an £11m advance on the TV money (thereby paying off HMRC) if they go into administration, ensuring relegation.
