Matthew Le God Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 (edited) This will be controversial. To be honest I'm not even sure I want it but... Sven has left his job at Notts County as the new takeover isn't going to take them to the Premiership like he thought the previous one would. 1) Nicole Cortese wants a director of football/sporting director at some point. 2) Sven wanted a club he can build to the Premiership. His reported £40k wages at Notts County would obviously be a factor. But IF he came here on much lower wages he would raise the profile of Saints and may help attract better players. As long as he leaves the managing to Pardew it could work well "in theory". Worth Nicole Cortese phoning Sven? Edited 11 February, 2010 by Matthew Le God
SuperSAINT Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I see what you're saying MLG. Problem is, I've always thought Sven was wasted in that role with them. A high profile D.O.F. is just a publicity stunt in my view.
saintkiptanui Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Bugger. Had a £250 double on Notts county to win the league and Man city to come top without the big 4, payed over 5/1. When I put the bet on the takeover was all good and they were loaded, might ask Corals to give my stake back as I was given duff info:(
Ewell Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Sven, ****e manager and ****e DOF. We really do not need a money draining idiot like this. In any case we want to keep the likes of Fiona Philips and the ladies of Southampton safe!
Saint Stimp Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Don't want the publicity as much as anything.
Clifford Nelson Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Tactically Sven is yesterday's man, and he is also too keen on his own publicity. Our Sporting Director needs to have an up to date knowledge of international football and and recent developments in the game whilst not craving fame or celebrity status, and also having his team management time firmly behind him. Under no circumstances should he manage the team, but if necessary put his whole weight behind finding a new manager. Svennis? Sorry, the answer is no!
VectisSaint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 No thanks. Overrated egotistical, tactically inept prize pratt IMHO.

Matthew Le God Posted 11 February, 2010 Author Posted 11 February, 2010 You ARE joking.. Read the opening sentence.
lordswoodsaints Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 He's done wonders at county...... :puts Tongue firmly in cheek:
Glasgow_Saint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 (edited) A guy with 18 managerial honours, managed 2 national sides - yet apparently its a big "No thanks" from Saints fans........ Now I know the majority on here know very little, but please! Edited 11 February, 2010 by Glasgow_Saint

Now I know the majority on here no very little, but please! Well some rejected a successful international manager over a League 1 nobody before, so why the surprise.

Now I know the majority on here know very little, but please! Yep, its a big "no thanks" from Saints supporters who have enough nouse to understand that he is yesterday's man, and that his past honours are past and well past at that. Since then he has become a media whore and is now a standing joke as hist time at Notts County has demonstrated. His total mis-management of England is clear for all to see, at least England now has a proper manager who can manage his primadonna players and is not influenced by the Neville and Beckham media circus. Why does anyone with more than half a brain think he would do anything good for Saints that could not be done by someone else for 10% of the cost.

I believe he should be doing the After Dinner Speech circuit. He has not helped Notts County one iota by taking so much from a club with little income. But there again he always comes across as someone who needed a great deal of help making decisions.

Now I know the majority on here know very little, but please! It is not what he did, but what he did lately. In Svens case it is who did he do lately. Crap manager

Now I know the majority on here know very little, but please! im with you on this. was sacked harshly imo from city and still imo knows his stuff.
JustMike Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 It is not what he did, but what he did lately. In Svens case it is who did he do lately. Crap manager not been a manager lately to be fair, and with all Notts C problems, fair play to him for sticking it out this long.
Thedelldays Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 what does he do now..? It would not surprise me if we see him sniffing around SFC in the near future...now we have money etc...
CB Fry Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 He is very highly regarded by everyone at County, including lots of the fans. Has thrown himself into life in the area and did at lot at the club. Fair to say his pitching up at Meadow Lane and the whole "project" was all a bit suspect, but that said, he is an excellent football man with a fantastic track record, better than all but about four, five or six managers currently working in Britain. If Cortese appointed him as Director of Football it would be a masterstroke.
brmbrm Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Well some rejected a successful international manager over a League 1 nobody before, so why the surprise. You know the rules - don't quote this trol...... ....oh, its you, I see now......

His contacts book and profile in Europe far exceeds that of AP, he would bring a very real respected face to us for European clubs. Undoubtedly making signing players from the continent easier. As long has he stayed out the papers and got on with going about things in the so far very professional way ML, NC and AP have done he would be GREAT to have upstairs. IMO of course.
krissyboy31 Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Would have thought he'd do a decent job in that roll but would want a shed load of money for doing it.
Micky Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 Could somebody please tell me what a D of F does...??? Highest profile D of F in recent times that I remember is Dennis Wise, which apparently was not a raging success. D of F's who has them, who has a successful one, what do they do..?
jam Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 Did a better job at citeh than anyone else recently. Aside from capello he was the best England manager since Sir Bobby. Must be crap.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 February, 2010 Author Posted 12 February, 2010 best England manager since Sir Bobby. Venables did better than Sven tbh.
gordonToo Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 He'd do a better job than Clive Woodward.
saintsmike25 Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 Sven, ****e manager and ****e DOF. We really do not need a money draining idiot like this. In any case we want to keep the likes of Fiona Philips and the ladies of Southampton safe! He's not a bad manager and he didn't do badly at his job at Notts either. He's a successful manager infact got England to two quarter finals which is more than MOST England managers. We however DON'T need him in an overly paid role and DOF roles often mean the manager would feel threatened, especially one like Pardew.

And I think most of the fans wouldn't want him, too much baggage attached.

I am not sure that he did.

Highest profile D of F in recent times that I remember is Dennis Wise, which apparently was not a raging success. D of F's who has them, who has a successful one, what do they do..? Chelsea, Spuds, Man U all have DoFs. The most important thing that Sven would bring to US in a DoF role would be his contacts in the game. Say we want to take a kid from am Italian club (Not like Papa but a highly rated kid) on loan, Nicola at the moment who be the person to make that phone call. In most places around the world it would be "Nicola who sorry?" but if you had Sven making that call he would most likely already know and have a working relationship with the guy on the other end of the phone and would be much easier to get the club to agree. Also when signing a player from abroad having someone of Svens reputation (football, not the ladies ) to talk the club up would be a massive thing for us. He realistically would never be seen on the training ground he wouldn't be giving tactical advise and we wouldn't want him to. For me, as I said earlier in this thread I would love him to be involved here, just as long as he keeps himself out of the front pages a bit. (Much like he has at Notts County tbf)
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 More chance of him ending up at P*mpey than St. Mary's.
red&white56 Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 No thanks - our last experience with DOF wasn't all that it was supposed to be and I'm not convinced we need one.
