ericofarabia Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 On a long weekend in Torquay Fri to Mon anyone know any good Boozers to watch the game in Torquay? All I ask is for the team to give 100% for 90-mins, would love it if we could sneak a 2-1 win. Fawlty Towers Probably one of the few places that could compere with the way things are being run at Notarf Krap in the comedy rankings Just to make yourself popular with the locals, a few rounds of '2-0 and you fecked it up' and 'we're going to wembley (x2), you're not (x2)' would make for a realistic atmosphere for you to enjoy the match in Good luck!! Dark Munster Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 If it is a draw, anyone have any idea when the replay at FP will be. I believe it's scheduled to be after they get liquidated. So in other words, a draw is as good as a win (to get us to the next round).

saints_is_the_south Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 head says lose, heart says win. either way its going to be fun and an awesome atmosphere This. And as saint_bert say, we can't allow O'Hara of Boateng any time on the ball otherwise they will carve us up. I just keep thinking if Leeds can beat United away & draw with Spurs at WHL then we have every chance of beating them at SMS. I can't f*cking wait! My gut feeling is a 2-1 win with Lambert scoring an injury time winner and becoming a god on the south coast. Please please please let the above happen! Nutwood2 Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 Don't know if this has already been posted and apologise for my ignorance...if the unthinkable happens and the Skates beat us on Saturday, then they go bust, do we then go through to the next round by default? yorkie Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 I'm obsessed with the whole thing. I can't stop analysing what could and couldn't happen! The facts are this - we have a history of scoring last minute goals in these ties because our class, bottle and luck have all been on our side. In 1984 - the roles were reversed. Biley had a chance just before we scored and he bottled it and sent one over the bar. In step Steve Moran at the back post on a swift counter attack. In 2004 - we got a lucky break and a penalty, and Crouchy did the rest. In 2010 - anything can happen. I believe the crowd will be a big player. The game on Tuesday night was a warm up for us - theirs was a nightmare with a 96th minute equaliser against 9-men! They will be fast, but will they have the bottle? Too many mercenaries that will have never experienced anything like the hostility or passion of a full SMS. I know we will give it our best. I know we are likely to get stuffed. I know Ricky Lambert will score. I even think Kelvin might have to save a penalty. We live for days like Saturday in front of the footballing world - they are all willing the underdog to win - which for once is us! No predictions. There will be menace a plenty around our City - even more than usual. All I want is for the team and Manager to do themselves justice. If we are losing with 10-15 mins to go be bold and change things around to give us better options of saving the game. Don't resort to hoof ball - we have skill players who can pass so utilise them. Dean Hammond is critical to our game plan - great to see him run out Tuesday night to get some match fitness. One thing is for sure - if we go 2-0 up we can't switch off like we did on Tuesday or they will murder us.

S-Clarke Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 http://www.tribalfootball.com/portsmouth-striker-dindane-prepared-southampton-defeat-635461 Wow, he's in line for some stick. If that's the attitude others take, then it could be easy pickings for us - they won't know what's hit them. That’s the bonus for us - they have a lot of foreign players who really don't know about the rivalry, or couldn't care less (as it seems, from dindane). Although we haven't got lots of ''Southampton'' lads in our team, they are primarily British and understand what a rivalry means.

once_bitterne Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 We will win the battle but think they will win this war..... Unfortunaly our far superior financial position will not equate to superiority on the pitch as although they will lose all their decent players when they go into admin they have not lost them yet. Their players ply their trade in the Prem as they are good enough to do this, ours do in L1 for the same reason. Dindane, Utaka and Piquone v. Thomas, Jaidi, etc could well be an unfair contest. Still, I'm glad to see our fans know where the priorities lie this season. The MK Semi for the Trophy sold out yet there are still tickets available for Saturday! SNSUN Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 Bloody looking forward to it. I managed to persuade my Norwich -supporting girlfriend to spend the whole weekend in Southampton (as a Valentines/anniversary getaway!) rather than Paris. She must reallllly love me. What a game this'll be. We'll have the weakened team, they'll have a weakened team, so I'm not expecting it to be a pretty game, in fact it could well boil over. I hope our lads can keep their heads, we don't want any suspensions. We will win this. We have to. No Saints fan in their right minds would choose their head over their heart in predicting the outcome of this game. This match is all about heart. WE WILL WIN THIS. Anything other than a win can be dealt with after the game with copius amounts of alcohol. (Which incidentally is what we'll be doing anyway if we win.) :-) 1-0 the Saints, bring on Round 6. eelpie Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 http://www.tribalfootball.com/portsmouth-striker-dindane-prepared-southampton-defeat-635461 An interesting comment from Dindane - that their Premiership position is priority. It could just be that HMRC have done us a favour by giving them a weeks grace. If their players believe the fairy tale that there are a couple of buyers on the horizon and they still have a chance of avoiding relegation their resolve could just possibly be weakened. So long as we give them our all.

I even started feeling a bit sorry for them. However, when asked about "the massive cup tie on saturday" by the presenter, the skate **** from SOS Pompey responded "well its not really a massive game, its only against a third division team". hutch Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 our best available 11 in a 4-5-1 format please. Either Antinio or Papa on the bench for impact sub duties. Either one of them will tear them apart in the last half hour, from what I've seen recently on the telly. And Pards, please make sure they all understand that we'll have a much better chance if we've still got 11 players on the field at the end of the game. They're no better that Ipswich. Enough commitment and effort, and we can do this.
Saint_clark Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 No no no no no to 4-5-1, they are weakest in defence, we need to attack them from the off. If we try to contain them they will beat us, I promise you that.

If we try to contain them they will beat us, I promise you that. Agree. We play much better in general with two up front. There seems to be a lot of hoofing it at Lambert going on. The MK game showed how much better we were having a second striker feeding off the knock downs, rather than having him isolated on his own. saint1977 Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 One thing is for sure, we have got to play FOR 90 MINUTES! We have a been a 45 minute team all season bar perhaps MK away first leg or Walsall away. We have to really rally the lads if they start to doze off or lose focus. I also agree on those who want to play 2 strikers and Lambert shouldn't have to take corners, his workload is already massive. About time some of the other lads in the midfield and forward areas put their hands up and established themselves in Saints folklore.

Foxy Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 I can't help but feel the fates are conspiring against our fishy friends and could dish out some treatment that in a moment of weakness I felt might even be crueller than they deserved. Going out of existence would be harsh (at least for the decent people among their following) but having a defeat against us, of all people, in their final game.... James Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 any guesses as to the lineup that Pards might choose. Especially with Fonte out. If I were picking I think I would go for: Davis Thomas Jaidi Perry Harding Antonio Morgan Hammond Lallana Waigo Lambert Maybe even have Lambert up top on his own, Lallana in behind and Papa out on the left hand side. We really need to attack them down the flanks, their full backs are very slow and their center backs are shaky so crosses to Rickie will be key I think. derry Posted 11 February, 2010 Share Posted 11 February, 2010 Speaking of bottling it did you see your players the last time they played in a derby It could be that this is the last time we will see them in a derby. Pompey are 8 points adrift, 13 games left, the tax bill is going up by a million a month, the £1.8m salaries are due in 14 days. The deadline day for this seasons administration, only if there is enough money to trade, is rapidly approaching. Vantis are independently assessing the accounts so the spin has to stop. It is put up or shut up time at Pompey, either the money is put in and paid to the revenue or it's over. We will probably be beaten by a better side on Saturday, but if Pompey manages to survive and the £60m is paid off, the team on Saturday will be gone in the close season. The ladder has been climbed and the snake is imminent. The reality is we are at Wembley for a cup final, we are a third tier side at the moment. We don't owe a penny, are refurbishing our training complex, own 41 acres at Hedge End, Can afford to buy any player we need, have a nearly new 32500 seater stadium and wouldnt change places with Pompey for all the tea in China. So before you come on here sneering take a bloody good look at your end and it isn't pretty. Even at it's worst last year we didn't owe the HMRC which was the smart thing we did and it bought us time. You didn't and HMRC are looking to make an example and I hope for your sake you are not it. I remember going to some bloody good games at Fratton Park before the stupidity about Skates and Scummers built up, it was just a local rivalry but sadly not any more for a lot of people and honestly what passes as rivalry now I wouldn't miss.
