jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Yes we may end up losing but because it being a fierce derby game where the majority of our players will appreciate the intense rivalry will mean it will be a close defeat IMO. However I am a glass is half full rather than half empty kind of guy so I am predicting a saints win! coyr
slickmick Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I too will go for a draw and Pompey being out of business before the replay.
Ken Tone Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 What really gets me about this is that Pompey do have a better team than us, but they damn well shouldn't have. It's only because they've been living above their means. When I hear commentators saying things like 'how can a team win the FA cup then be in so much trouble so soon after', it makes me want to shout but it's effectively *because* they won the cup that they're in trouble. They 'bought' the cup with players they couldn't afford. And they've still got most of them, so I fear will probably 'buy' a win against us, even if it may well be the last game they play. K.

In truth, from the outsiders point of view, the same could be said of us. 2003 Cup Final, and on the steep downward spiral a couple of seasons later. That descent started because Saints failed to capitalise on their success, by standing still. A lack of spending [or investment, if you like the term better] and absurd managerial appointments, at a crucial time, led to failure. Pompey massively overspent, but the results are very similar.
Tom & Gerry Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I heard a Poopy fan on Sky say it wasn't that big a game as it was only against a 3rd Division team. In truth both both teams should be 2nd Division and that makes it pretty even. If you can remember anyone can beat anyone in the Championship.
Whitey Grandad Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Heart says Saints win, head says lose by a couple of goals. In cases like this I always look at each team and try to estimate the number of goals that they will get. I reckon they'll get 2 or 3 and we'll get 1 or 2, but who knows? Maybe playing in a full stadium will get to their players and they'll be full of nerves. If we can get the first couple of goals then maybe their heads will drop knowing that they not even be employed when the next round comes along.

I'm sorry but they play at places like Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea etc etc week in week out..
West End Saint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I think we will win as someone has pointed out we played well against Birmingham & Ipswich the skate are a CCC side in waiting and we are a CCC side in waiting. After tuesday the pressure is off us and all on them we are going to Wembley no matter what and we are free to play our game at home I think we will win 2.1 COYS lets whip the Cod Snogging Freaks
benjii Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I can certainly see us scoring a goal or two. I can certainly see them scoring a goal or two. Should be a good game.
James Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I think we'll win it 1-0 for some reason I have a sneaky suspicion Lee Barnard will score for us.

Draino76 Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I really think this game is about the 1st goal. If we bag the 1st St Marys will absolutley errupt like it never has before; and they will be desolate. I have a feeling Papa will get this (AP hinted he will start) when he exposes their slow defence with his pace. Our fans need to intimidate both the skate players and fans heavily starting by when they get here on the coach. If we get the 1st goal, then up the pressure even more, we will turn them over.
Whitey Grandad Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Playing in a full stadium? I'm sorry but they play at places like Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea etc etc week in week out.. And they lose regularly at such places.
Tom & Gerry Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 It's a bit similar to 1960 really, They had done well but were now on big slide. We had done badly but were now on the up. What was the score that day ? Hmm let me think, oh yes I remember ............. 5-1
Mr X Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 we will lose by at least 2 goals unfortunately
Leicestersaint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Cheer up everybody! 3 - 1 to Saints.
Jimmy_D Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2848507/Pompey-are-not-Din-done.html?OTC-RSS&ATTR=Football#ixzz0fETt65sj Haha. He's clueless... we're gonna win this one

corsacar saint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Heart says 2-1 Saints. Head says Portsmouth by 2 goals.
red&white56 Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 My head says we will lose - after all they are a Premier club and we are a mid-table League one outfit. I can only hope that AP tells the boys what this means and gets them worked up for this game so they play above their normal level - then we have a chance. But tonight I'll dream about us winning 4-0 ! And the Skates all leaving 15 mins before the end as their team is so Sh*te...........
Under Weststand Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 My initial thoughts have been that Poopey would probably be to good for us. But as the game gets closer, Wembley has been achieved, we have nothing to loose & this could/ probably will be their last game. Therefore I'm beginning to feel as though its our destiny this was meant to be. They are not good at the back we need to get at them early on get in their faces, & not give them a moments peace, there finishing is woeful we can win this 2-1 Saints COYR.

If they're to be kept in at the end of the game? Would be even more miserable for them if they're are losing to us and have to watch the whole event to the final whistle too.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 FFS what is wrong with a bit of optimism. I go to every game to see Saints win and when they dont i am gutted. I cannot get my head around SAINTS fans predicting that Pompey will beat us by "two clear goals" and "they have a stronger team than us". Jesus Christ its the FA CUP WE ARE PLAYING THE SKATES.WE ARE AT HOME.ITS FA CUP SATURDAY.COME ON SAINTS YOU CAN BEAT THIS ****. I believe we will beat the skates 2-1 with Rickie Lambert knocking in the winner. You can stuff your show me the way to .............up your arse Skates.

saintalan Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 As much as i hate to say it i reckon we'll get done 2-1. Then at least we can still sing "Que sera sera, whatever will be will be, You're not going to Wembley, que sera sera" or win or lose "We're going to Wembley, we're going to Wembley, you're not, you're not"
FarehamRed Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 It's a derby - in a game played at 100mph, their supposedly "better" players will not get the chance to show anything. And they're used to losing. 2-1 saints with the winner in the last 5 minutes.
rpb Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 It's a bit similar to 1960 really, They had done well but were now on big slide. We had done badly but were now on the up. What was the score that day ? Hmm let me think, oh yes I remember ............. 5-1 I was there! It was absolutely brilliant. We had just beaten Liverpool 4 - 1 earlier in the week and the beat them 1 - 0 at Anfield the next Wednesday.
SFC Forever Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Playing in a full stadium? I'm sorry but they play at places like Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea etc etc week in week out.. but they don't win there very often do they?
.comsaint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 1-1. Lovely "friendly" evening replay at their gaff midweek.
tommi Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Heart says Saints, head says Pompey at a canter... grrrrrrrrrrrrr
Thedelldays Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 but they don't win there very often do they? because they are man u, chelsea and arsenal they hammered carlise away I think..? my heart says saints win..my head says pompey win

SFC Forever Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 TDD I am in much the same quandary but I am looking at our history and praying we can keep it going. Mrs says 3-1 and has her money down so how can I argue.

SNSUN Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Heart should ALWAYS overrule head for games like this. Head says loss, heart says victory. VICTORY SHALL BE OURS!!! 1-0.
doggface Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 It could be anything, I think it will be close. Heart says 2-1 saints, head says 1-1 and back to Fartton we go........
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Draw for me - Pompey might well be playing for a replay and the extra moolah anyway. And we may well be in the quarter finals regardless as I don't expect them to see the month out. If HMRC let them off the hook, it's open season for all of football, and pretty much anyone really.

SFC Forever Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 We will have 28000 at the game cheering us on. we will make more noise than ever before because we may never have another chance to beat the blue side again.
westofshannonsaint Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 Its the FA CUP, & a home derby. The Ref/Linesmen have to be careful R Lambert, Southampton 3 - 1 @ 80/1 Total stake for this bet: €12.35 Potential returns: €1,000.35 that will pay for a holiday/JPT trip When we were the prem team how many times did we get knocked out of cup's by lower league opposition? coys
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 Ladbrokes have both Saints and poopey to win at 13/8!
Big Ron fan Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 It will finish 2-2, one side (I can't decide which) coming back from 2-0 down. Pompey will be wound up before the replay - we will be at home to Stoke in the QF. I think we should play a song for our visitors from along the M27 before the game...Cher's "Gypsies, Trampa and Thieves" - that should spice up the atmosphere even more!
Supersubpuckett Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 The atmosphere will give us two early goals but then the quality of some of their players will see them come back as we get knackered - and lets face it our defence is still pretty woeful. 2-4
