This thread makes me laugh, the idea is clearly for the benefit not just for those who want to stand, but also for those who don't who can then try to avoid those blocks.

and for the "i can sing while sitting" posters, last night I don't think there was any noise generated from anywhere in the ground south of the 18 yards line towards the Northam end. Hopefully that will improve on saturday.

Deaf i guess:smt119

So big of you, calling somebody a mug on an internet message board. If it didn't bother you then you wouldn't be getting so up tight about the whole thing.

Lol....are you 12;)

I'm going to get completely wasted for this game on a ****tail of substances. So anyone that tells me to sit down can **** right off. Behind the goal it is then. I can't ****ing wait.

The FA have a designated singing area for England home games, the first few games were a success, the stewards let us stand and you got a decent atmosphere, they then clocked on this was the most popular part of the ground and upped the prices, hence we all retreated back to the cheap seats in the upper tier and the singing section was full of happy clapping, day tripping, mongs who only stood up when the Mexican Wave came round and the atmosphere at Wembley died away totally.

Anyway, what I'm trying to get as it can be done if organised properly and the stewards will turn a blind eye if eveyone stands en masse.

Posted

It's quite simple. They just need to replicate St. Mary's.

Those of us who want to sing all game and stand should be given our own couple of blocks right next to the Carlisle fans. Everybody else could be left to sit at their leisure without having to worry about the more excitable of us getting in their line of view.

If only the powers that be could arrange this. Would go somewhat against the usual prawn sandwich sanitised atmosphere at Wembley.

The last thing i want is to finally see saints at wembley and have no atmosphere.

Its a great idea and one we shoud look into. Let Northam ST Holders have priorty behind goal

ALL HAIL THE F**KIN' NORTHAMERS!!

get over yourself ,just because people don't want to sit in the Northam, doesn't mean they don't enjoy being in a lively atmosphere during big games.

EVERY ST holder should have priority and be able to CHOSE where they want to sit ,despite where they sit at SMS.

it IS good idea to get the singing fans in one area, but that doesn't mean that others should not be ALLOWED to sit in that area. This is not a Dictatorship so people will sit where they like BUT should do so under advisement that they will be surrounded by the more 'vocal and animated' fans.

lol, indeed. Maybe this is what those fans who were fighting in the stand were fighting about last night?! :)

that's pretty ironic as well.

Congratulations ... you've managed to find a way to argue about the greatest thing to have happened to our club in 7 years. You should all be very proud.

Totally agree this will be my 5th visit to Wembley to watch my team never had to plan the atmosphere or who stands where, or sits where before.

we were surrounded by strangers last night in block 20 and will be again saturday but that did not stop us old boys singing throughout the game.

sounds like some can only sing and support if surrounded by others doing it as well

my problem-

Dodgy knee, standing/idling for long periods of time is agony.

Going with my dad- Dodgy hip/knee, cant stand for long periods of time....full stop.

So to spend x amount on what should be a great day out to have it ruined by a bunch of knuckle draggers who stand up all game 'cos im a real fan who sings n stuff' would seriously p*ss me off.

If there is a designated 'singing uber fan' stand, it may be a good idea, and i would definatly steer clear.

So anyone that wants to stand and actively support their team is a knuckle dragger?

I sit in the Chapel, but sing my f***ing lungs out every game, it's a great shame not many others do, but wherever I sit at Wembley I'm still going to sing, try and pep up the fags who can't be bothered to spur their team on.

okay all ST holders get priorty. i;m not criticising or stating what any fan does or should do.

Just suggesting that the idea is a good one and it would be nice if we could have a more vocal area, so that we can make the most of being at Wembley. I;m not staing anyone sitting other than the Northam shoudln;t or can;t sit wherever is being proposed. Was a slight typo.

I think we have a winner in the intensely fought 'Stupidest Thread of the Week' competition .

For the information of those advocating this nonsense (most of whom I assume to be under 12 years of age) Mr Cortese is hardly likely to encourage you to stand at Wembley for the eminently simple reason that your doing so would be contrary to ground regulations , if not damn right illegal . As a rule the Chairman of a football club is generally expected to behave like a responsible adult by those in authority , and while I don't know him personally I'm still pretty sure our Chairman would prefer to respect that time honoured tradition and not look like a complete and utter berk before his peers and the assembled glitterati of the Football League !

Nil Desperandum however ! I've consulted the highest medical authorities in the land on your behalf , and they assure me that the latest 'cutting edge' medical research proves that it is anatomically possible for the average Human Being to sing while adopting a seated position . :)

Ahhh its great fun singing in the Chapel by yourself. :D

I hope the chapel won't be quite so library like this weekend! It was the only place I could get a seat. Felt a right twart when I asked if there were any seats left in the Northam. I got the 'HA you must be joking' response :(

If this is anything to go by, the tickets are sold in blocks from the centre of the main stand around (probably to make it look more full for the tv cameras).

£30 for a ticket in the area in green (lower tier, behind the goal).....that'll do for me!!! :D

realy can't see wots the problem with this thread ?surely the idea of having all those who like to stand & sing in an area would be to the benefit of everyone? those who like to sit wouldn't have there view blocked, the standing - singers would be happy & hopefully this would help create a cracking atmosphere! thats wot everyone wants isn't ?

With the theme of this thread in mind...

I am in block 10 of the Itchen on Saturday. This is a sit down area. Would much rather be standing in block 1 2 3 or 4. If anyone has 2 tickets here and would rather go somewhere where they can sit down, let me know and I will swap seats.

There, thread hijacked. Think this Wembley standing behind the goal thing is a great idea.

Just walk along in the stadium and stand somewhere in 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Tried that before, looked like a right idiot when the steward checked my ticket and it was 6 blocks away. Had to go oooooh must have read it wrong mate then nip off. The stadium is too well organised and people want to stand near their seat. Not going to wan to share it with me and my brother.

I think the problem with the thread is the insistence of some to refer to a "singing" area rather than "standing" area. I suspect most fans have no problem with the idea of a dedicated "standing" area but the implied suggestion that you have to stand in order to sing and support the team is bound to wind people up. Also as suggested by someone else I would be amazed if the club or the Echo publicy endorsed the idea as it is against the law.

Pointless IMO. Did we need to do this for the cup final in Cardiff? No. It shows how quiet are support is when you have to 'plan' things to get a decent atmosphere at a game like this. When it comes to big games we do always pull a good atmoshere out the bag (4-3 Norwich, Sheff Utd when we stayed up, Pompey games etc..) If your that worried about standing, get a ticket at the back. I will stand and sing but if some old duffer wants me to sit down because he cant see, then i will do. It wont stop me making alot of noise. Get drunk, make plenty of noise and stop worrying, when we are in full flow the hairs on the back of your neck will stand up.

I know a few others that are moving along to Blocks 1, 2 or 3. I've never had my ticket checked at a game at St Mary's.. Must have been pretty rare to have yours checked on that one occasion. There'll be people standing in the isles and stuff anyway, I'm sure if you stand somewhere around block 3 you'd be fine.

No. I'll be standing.

But anyone who stands without respect for those behind them is a knuckle dragger. Twice away this season (Bristol and Swindon) I've seen people standing when young kids / OAPs who couldn't stand for 45mins missed the game directly behind them. They knew they were there but did nothing, just carried on standing like the knuckledraggers they were.

Personally I think it's a bit unfair.

when I was a little lad and went to my first game back in 1985 (I was 5)..I stood in the corner next to the tunnel so I could see the players..

I will never forget that the adults around me at the time..all made way for me to get to the front and prop me up to see the players come out for the warm ups and start of the game..

some how, a old milk create was passed down to the front for me to stand on and everyone made sure I could see the game and what was going on..

now, i guess..that sort of story happens less and less as long as some morons can sing and swear for 90 mins..

for the MK:Dons game, my old man took my nephews along, one 7 years old and one 10 years old. The 10 year old loved every minute of it, block 1 itchen to very close to away fans, joined in the banter and stood on his seat gripping on to my Dad in case he stood too far back and the seat folded.

The 7 year old on the other hand , sat on his seat, hood over head as he just couldnt see and got tired.

I didnt exactly help matters by standing and encouraging it..

Half time my Dad asked the steward as he totally understood the location of the seats would imply standing at most times, so they simply moved them down the front of the pitch and half time, no problems at all, one lad in front said sorry in which we just told him he has nothing to say sorry about.

And I ended up having 3 seats to my self......

Intend to be standing at Wembley.

I shall be there to help you out on saturday. Just this once though.

Block 19 all th way

Anyway, not knocking the OP in any way but every I would suspect that Wembley will be quite a noisy place whatever the seating 'rules'

Maybe we could gain some tips from 'Sam's Army, the US of A official 'fans who wish to express themselves through song at Soccer matches' people:

Someone needs to set up a seperate website perhaps? Maybe not though.

What is this 'milk crate' that you speak of? ;)

Up the back of the first tier behind the goal sounds good. Singers go there, old boys and folk with dodgy hips avoid.

Also, this thread is one of a million illustrations of why the game needs designated standing areas (not even necessarily terraces, though that would be fantastic - just areas in all-seater for the vocal fans). This is in the interest of people who just want to sit and quietly watch the game just as much as it is for people who want to stand and be vocal. The current rules do nothing but reduce atmosphere and create a lot of very unnecessary bad will between fans of the same team.

To be fair The OAPs now were the adult generation in your day and the adults now are your generation.

Also, what do you want them to do - sneak a milk crate into St Marys so that people can see?

Maybe so but one thing is for sure, wherever I sit at wembley the person in front my 7 years old son wil not be stood up for the entire game so he misses the game I assure you that.

Anyway, as was stated earlier it looks like you don't have a say in where you buy your tickets as sales start from the half way line in the North Stand and are sold clockwise round the ground.
