Saint_clark Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 Have you seen the size of the grounds in the Green Man? It's massive... there will be bars all over the show and BBQ on the go. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=The+Green+Man+Pub+and+Hotel,+Dagmar+Avenue,+Wembley,+Middlesex+HA9,+United+Kingdom&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=34.808514,60.029297&ie=UTF8&hq=The+Green+Man+Pub+and+Hotel,&hnear=Dagmar+Ave,+Wembley,+HA9,+UK&ll=51.556969,-0.289807&spn=0,359.985344&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.556999,-0.289936&panoid=FhVd1SaUhSsQ5xgsGLChdw&cbp=12,29.42,,0,28.06 Is it just me or is "The Green Man" on google maps actually a grotty little house? Can't see the pub anywhere.
StuRomseySaint Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 Is it just me or is "The Green Man" on google maps actually a grotty little house? Can't see the pub anywhere. The link is looking at the wrong side of the road.... turn around and face the other way...
dune Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 Brown net curtains and wheely bins left out. It could be St Marys.
Right sider Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 The torch gets incredibly busy on a match day and is on a main road, pretty dire.
Dimond Geezer Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 Not travel related, but thought I'd post it here anyway. I've been approached my someone on another (non-footie) forum to post details of a hotel room up for grabs, near Wembley, on the night before the JPT final. Re: Hotel The double bedded room is at the Wembley Plaza and I would like £70 o n o . The hotel is a 5min walk to the stadium AND IS FOR ONE NIGHT ON SATURDAY 27TH MARCH Please feel free to put on the saints website and put my mobile number on too 07711 087276 JOSEPHSONMARTIN@HOTMAIL.COM I know nothing more than this, and don't personally know this guy, but if you're interested, contact him directly.
Sour Mash Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 The torch gets incredibly busy on a match day and is on a main road, pretty dire. Of course it gets busy, but it's 5/10 minutes walk to the ground, is a decent enough pub and has good scope for drinking outside if the weather is ok.
StuRomseySaint Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 Cheers, that does look pretty cool. You can see on there that theres a maquee up... they will have these up again next week if the weather warrants it.
moonraker Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 Any one travelling from Bath by train? there are engineering works so its a coach to Swindon, I may drive to Chippenham (Dept. 09:07 Arrive 10:39 or 10:04 arrive 11:39) to avoid the coach, 2 spaces in car if any one wants to join me, please PM me
The Majestic Channon Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 For me. I want a beer at 9.00am. Remember its a Sunday, so not all pubs will be open 9.00am. But Silverspoons (Silver Spoons, The Silver Spoons whatever its called) will be serving me beer from 9.am. note it has a number of bars and plenty of bar staff, so it will be far easier to get served, than the Green Man or The Torch. I also normally drink away from grounds before a match, but as its Wembley, so what! Its next to the Stadium, its open at 9.00, and there will be one huge party in there. Its a special day, I am just going to enjoy myself with loads of other Red N Whites If you dont like it, thats your beef, but don't put others off!.... good luck in searching for a 9.am boozer. maybe a Wetherspoons (Wether Spoons, The Wetherspoons or whatever its called!). whatever you do have a brilliant day. Fair enough, silly post in the first by yours truly I will be somewhere early doors downing a few real ales. Have a good one all.
dune Posted 16 March, 2010 Posted 16 March, 2010 (edited) http://www.london-discount-hotel.com/ Still rooms available at very good prices. £63 for the saturday night at the quality hotel wembley (single rooom) or £34 pp pn for a twin/double room. This includes continental breakfast or pay £5 when you're there for a full English. This is peanuts and takes all the hassle out of traveling down for the lunchtime k/o. Ideal for those wanting to hit the pubs early - they're just a minutes stroll away after breakfast and the stadium itself is a stones throw away. In fact some rooms overlook the ground. krissyboy31 Posted 17 March, 2010 Posted 17 March, 2010 Train tickets booked! Reading to Paddington. Return travel card £19.50.
.comsaint Posted 17 March, 2010 Posted 17 March, 2010 Anyone else catching the train from Fratton? Actually getting the train from dirty Havant due to the fact I'm going with a mate from Emsworth. Standing on the station in colours should be interesting. There must be other people from the wrong side of Fareham getting the train that leaves from Skatesmouth? Yep - travelling up from Waterlooville (2 of us). I'm not sure how I'm getting there yet - whether a train from dirty Havant...or drive up in my new motor & hope for the best as regards parking! Decisions decisions...

marc_saint Posted 17 March, 2010 Posted 17 March, 2010 Going to drive up and park at the stadium ( yes I know ). Can anyone tell me the best route from M3 ? Drive to Denham which is just off the junction of the M25/M40. Then onto the Chilton Line train that takes 20 minutes into Wembley Stadium station. (2 stops) So much easier than fighting your way into Wembley by car.
Jonnyboy Posted 17 March, 2010 Posted 17 March, 2010 anyone driving up from bitterne park area and have space for one more?
notnowcato Posted 18 March, 2010 Posted 18 March, 2010 Anyone heading up from Brighton or local should take advantage of the discount deal Southern Rail are running. All Day travelcard zones 1-6 from Brighton £12 - bargain! I'm not an agent. Subject to Terms and Conditions.

Very good call as large car park at Denham That would be my route in, or better still park at Hillingdon (large car park 5mins from M25 on M40 in to london and Met line (against the traffic) to Wembley Park. Easy Regards Morph

LeBenali Posted 20 March, 2010 Posted 20 March, 2010 How early do you think the Denham carpark will begin filling up? I'm planning on getting there for the train that leaves for Wembley at 10.15, is this going to be too late?

northam soul Posted 22 March, 2010 Posted 22 March, 2010 Decided to go and stay with my brother in law for the whole weekend who lives in kent. We will all travel up from Ashford on the bullet train. Only takes 38 mins to St Pancras and costs £20 including underground plus the advantage of the trains not being packed. Leaving on the 08.13 from Ashford arriving at St Pancras at 08.51 then hopefully in the green man by 09.30.
dubai_phil Posted 22 March, 2010 Posted 22 March, 2010 Bugger. Had everything sorted, flights & Hotel booked, favourite seat so I get served my nosh quickly on the plane and.. Guy Posted 22 March, 2010 Posted 22 March, 2010 Anyone know what time this pub and others are opening on Sunday? I emailed the Green Man last week and the fella who replied said 08:30.
krissyboy31 Posted 22 March, 2010 Posted 22 March, 2010 A pint before the game and a pint at h/t will be fine. Maybe a swig of water from the taps if thirsty. That'll do me. Actually £3.50 is not as bad as I'd imagined. They can stick their pies at £4.50 though!

Only concern is with one train an hour which is coming in from Birminhgham - it would be a bit of a downer if the train is full on arrival at Denham. Anyone have experience of this route and chances of this happening?
Kelly Smunt Posted 22 March, 2010 Posted 22 March, 2010 Just booked private parking space well within walking distance of the stadium, want to avoid train and tube, train seems to have a lot of engineering works in operation.
georgeg Posted 22 March, 2010 Posted 22 March, 2010 Is everyone wearing colours? I usually don't wear football apparel to games because it's tacky but I don't want to look like a mug if I'm the only one not wearing a Saints shirt. you dont wear football apparel to a football game because its tacky??!!!!!??? This is a joke thread right? get your Red and White on and wear with proud Rory!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andy_Porter Posted 22 March, 2010 Posted 22 March, 2010 Anyone know what time The Globe opens on Sunday? Was planning on going down there but didn't think about opening times...

Anyone have experience of this route and chances of this happening? It may be busy but it won't be full it's only 10 mins, if you're that worried, go down to Rickmansworth (5 mins from Denham) or Watford and get the Tube (Met Line).
