batterseasaint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 There is major re-engineering works on the line between Surbiton and Clapham Junction all day on 28th March. Practically, I'm not sure what this means but would either mean a replacement bus service, a re-direction, or cancelling of the services altogether. Anyway, I have emailed South West Trains to find out, so will post the response on here.
lambertsrightleg Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 greyhound doing any coaches do we know?
Sour Mash Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 could anybody out there be able to give me so general advice?! Im hoping to fly over rfom Belfast for the game, does anybody know what Airport would be best to fly into and any decent hotels to stay in for a night in London? It depends when you're planning on flying in, but all of the major airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted) are within an hour of Central London, then no-more than 35/40 mins to Wembley from there. Would recommend looking on the Premier travel Inn or travel Lodge websites, bit cheap and cheerful, but know they did have some really good deals for that weekend around Kings Cross, not sure if they'll still be available though.
fatpix2003 Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Just booked national express leaving Winchester at 07:10 arriving at 08:50, returning on Monday at 14:00 arriving back in Winchester at 15:40 five adults and a child for £108.20, it's going to get rather messy I feel, it's worked out to £37 per head to get there and stay the night and return, get in!
sotonjoe Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 My understanding of the Groupsave fares was that everybody in the party was supposed to travel together. That means you're not allowed to team up with four people to buy tickets if you're not going to do both the outward and return journey with them. Obviously, it's up to you if you want to chance it and come back individually etc, but don't act like an idiot if the SWT staff do pull you up on it and try to charge you a penalty fare.

Never been queried. Have always travelled up together but sometimes got different trains back home. Not an issue.

I've done groupsavers for probably the last 10 or so away games all over the place and we nearly always end up getting split up and coming home in pairs rather than as four. The only time I've ever had any trouble was on the way back from MK when bizarrely we where in a four with someone who just had a single alongside our groupsaver4 and the bloke checking tickets had a moan, no idea why think he was just a bit of a mong.
seano Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Anybody driving to the match? I live in wembley but due to being a student way up north i have neither a season ticket nor did i make either area final. If anyone thinks they would be able to obtain two tickets for me they can park on my drive for the day (for free of course). Its less than 10minute walk from mine to wembley park station with the torch and another pub on the way and then 5 minutes or so from there to the stadium. I know i probably could get tickets on general sale, but this way someone can save the £20 or whatever fee that all the car parks charge.
dubai_phil Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I've used this web site before and not had any problems http://www.london-discount-hotel.com/ I've been googling today and IF you go onto Heathrow you can take TWO different trains into Paddington ONE is much cheaper than the other Paddington area has Bakerloo line direct to Wembley. There are a lot of hotels within 5-10 mins walk of the station. I stayed in the area before and with the links into the centre of town it was good for going out to Chinatown or wherever for dinner/beers. Not much around the area for eating/drinking though. I found one place at 35 quid a night single - it will be small and pants but a room. For those flying in, then the Heathrow CONNECT service is every 30 minutes (takes 25mins) and about 10 quid to Paddington, The Express is every 15 mins (takes 15mins) and about double the price but at least it is non-stop. the same web site had a 1 star hotel walking distance from Wembley stadium for 35 quid single room, then you don't have all the Big City Options for a night out before the game. The other alternative going into Heathrow is to take the Piccadilly line - get a travelcard OR an Oyster Card and it is only about 2.90 and 45 mins. If you take that then there are a LOT of low cost hotels around Gloucester Road tube area (on the web site) and then it is not far back up to take Bakerloo, Jubilee or Metropolitan line to Wembley I once took a bus from heathrow...Hmmm Luton is a nightmare you have to get a bus to Luton station. Stanstead & Gatwick have express services. Again around Victoria station (Gatwick Express stop) you will find a lot of hotels and good access to Jubilee straight up http://www.tourstolondon.co.uk/london-underground-map.gif One other option on the train from Heathrow is to use the Connect to Ealing Broadway. there are a lot of Guesthouses there (google time) and the town centre has a couple of nice bars and some good curry houses. there are then bus services along the North Circular to Wembley IF you don't want to hit the centre of town. Oyster cards are perfect if you have one or travel in London regularly no idea how returns or travelcards work these days, cash on a bus is a nightmare
dubai_phil Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Oh one other note. A mate runs a Mercedes Viano Limo with all the licences etc. It will take 7 people. Anyone who wants to go up in style it's available for hire with Chauffeur PM me (promised I'd mention it for him) Obviously it is style and comfort over "ecomonics" but anyone thinking of doing the whole gig with a box etc may be an idea
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Huh? I'm doing my googling tomorrow. Already found a web site with hotels in London from 39 quid a night, but damned if I'm telling you lot until I've found one and booked it! Since I live in London maybe I should rent out my flat for saints fans!
Badger Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Drive,Cheltenham - outskirts of London. (Big Decision: Dilemna of Chelt-Oxford- London,or Chelt-Cirencester-Swindon-M4-London.Just have to wrestle with my mind over that one for the next six weeks) Take a filthy grimey tube to Wembley. Return: Cue like a peasant to take tube back towards car. Hopefully find car safe, complete with all tyres, wheels and cd player intact and without vandalism before repeating above route.
Charlie2008 Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 I will be parking at my mates house in Tunbridge Wells and going by train i think from there TDD. You coming back the same day? C.

It's probably only 30-40 each return and it will be licenced so you can drink. What's the actual costs?

Ricky Redstripe Posted 11 February, 2010 Posted 11 February, 2010 Just looked at london underground timetables and rote planners, says Victoria and Hammersmith and City Lines suspended on 28/3/10
Jack Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 28th March Soton central 06.55 - Waterloo 09.08 28th March 2010 Waterloo 21.05 - Soton Central 23.00 Ticket details Super off-peak day travelcd £68.80 4 Adult(s) Groupsave 4 Fare @ £17.20 That couldn't be easier, leave at 6.55 and there aren't any changes and should be in the pub for 10ish, which isn't too bad for a 1.30 start. This. Includes the tube so excellent value. Celebratory tour through London on the way back to Waterloo is in order.

Just looked at london underground timetables and rote planners, says Victoria and Hammersmith and City Lines suspended on 28/3/10 Although for those arriving at Waterloo, this shouldn't be a problem. (Bakerloo to Baker St/Metropolitan to Wembley Park). (Bakerloo all the way to Wembley Central) (Bakerloo to Marylebone/Chiltern overground line to Wembley Stadium) Any recommendations on the best route through London to the promised land?
stmaxx Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 yes there is engineering works on this day, trains will be diverted via staines ,twickenham to rejoin at clapham junction and will add another 30+ mins to the journey time its on journey planner , http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/en/s/timetable/times
RINGMER SAINT Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 Rail works in London to Wembley and I am coming from Lewes East Sussex(okay to London then problems)
Saint-scooby Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 New Forest Saints I am planning on booking a return coach, will try a 53 seater, pick up at Lymington, Brock station, Lyndhurst maybe Ashurst and Totton PM if you are interested will spilt the hire charge equally.
COMEONYOUREDS Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 IMPORTANT - ALL THOSE PLANNING TO USE BAKERLOO LINE FROM PADDINGTON The Bakerloo has a planned closure for the 28th March from Queens Park to Harrow & Wealdstone, therefore this is not an option! http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/livetravelnews/realtime/tube/track-closures.pdf So as well as the Clapham Junction engineering works there is this as well. Looking at it, the quickest option is to go via reading, either using the cross country train or changing at basingstoke, and then changing at reading. You can then use the bakerloo line to Marylebone (2 stops) and take the chiltern trains service to wembley stadium (station). Going via reading will save approx 30 mins I recall.
carljack Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 Flying in Sat 27th Evening with my son, no ticket yet, no onward transport yet,but when you tell a 13 yr old that If Saints get to Wembley we are going you have to keep your word. Saint till I die!

spyinthesky Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 One of the grumpy programme sellers told me last night before the game that the club had already ordered 100 coaches to Wembley the day before. Whether this is true or not is another thing though. Think this is true
lordswoodsaints Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 As it's my birthday I have treated myself to a hummer limo,16 of my family and friends lording it up.....nice.
Norm Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 As it's my birthday I have treated myself to a hummer limo,16 of my family and friends lording it up.....nice. Selfish! Putting your family before mates. Where do H and I fit into this Limo? I can bring a cake and the 50 candles;) I've booked a room for son, g-son and self at Wembley on Sat' night. Full English and then walk the 10 minutes to the stadium.
Toomer Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 17 seater mini bus booked, usual suspects going might have a couple of spare seats.
rich saints Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 how much is the limo working out for each person
saintwarwick Posted 12 February, 2010 Posted 12 February, 2010 I will be driving so anyone needing a lift from Warwick or midlands area I should have 2 seats available, pm me if you need a lift.

Good luck with that, I gather that the official travel club will be taking in excess of 100 coaches up. They'll habe boooked everything up within Hants by now I'd have thought.
Dan Posted 13 February, 2010 Posted 13 February, 2010 I have booked a travelodge in kings Cross, £29 a night. Best best is to make a day/night of it. Travel club???? Its london for ffs.

Im hoping to fly over rfom Belfast for the game, does anybody know what Airport would be best to fly into and any decent hotels to stay in for a night in London? How about this for a plan ........ Just had a look on Flybe site and the Belfast City - Southampton flight on Saturday morning is free, you pay taxes only (16 quid I think). Have a nice day in Southampton (a stadium tour/stock up with red and white goodies from The Club shop etc) join in the night before Wembley atmosphere in Southampton and catch the train/minibus/coach and travel with like minded folk the next day. The hotel/guest house would surely be much cheaper than London and would cover the transport up to Wembley (as if the mega cheap flt hadn't already!!!) Back to town after the game to join in the celebratery party afterwards. Fly back on Monday (Flights not much more than a fiver plus tax .... and you might even get to fly on the a/c with the picture of Matty on it!! You'll need to book up the airtickets pretty quick though before everybody gets wind of it!!
dubai_phil Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 Flights booked Emirates to London on Saturday leaving at 09:50 (5:50 your time) They'll start serving the Bloody Mary's an hour into the flight and should fall of the plane at Heathrow at 1:30 ready for an afternoon and evening in The Smoke. Now to sort out the hotel and where to meet the mates who'll have me ticket...... May be a problem not sure I'll remember what I look like, let alone them, by the time we get together. Happy daze

Would be ****ed off if I was a season ticket holder and was only given 3 days grace to get the best seats, especially if i didnt get paid till the end of the month.
paris Posted 14 February, 2010 Posted 14 February, 2010 Are flybe doing any special trips from Paris would be good if they are ,if i tell them i'm coming over especially for the match do you think they'de come up with aspecial offer for me ??
Pennyred Posted 15 February, 2010 Posted 15 February, 2010 Anyone wanting private coach/minibus hire (with driver!) could try Zenith Coaches near Fareham - they're not currently on Avensis/Princess list of coach suppliers so have vehicles available for 28th.

Doubt it, I had a look at Ryanair from Grenoble the other day. Providing I can get leave this time I could do the round trip for about £40 but the Mrs will insist on going(but not to the match) and stay at the Lancaster Gate (because we always do) so I won't get any change at all from £300 and that"s without Le Café des Amis du Vin because we always have to do that as well. Still should be worth it.
dune Posted 15 February, 2010 Posted 15 February, 2010 Where's a good place to park up (to the north of London) and get the tube into London? I'll need somewhere safe to leave the car for the Sunday night.

stedje Posted 15 February, 2010 Posted 15 February, 2010 Living in Norway. Is it a gamble to buy plane tickets for me and my wife? Will I get tickets for the match?
ottery st mary Posted 15 February, 2010 Posted 15 February, 2010 Think stanmore tube has a decent car park. Looks reasonable price, and straight to wembley. Used it many times for Wembley...Good choice from the North....straight into the required area..May even use this myself....Throw her indoors into her mothers and take my two daughters into Wembley....Tickets permitting..
