Right, just got off the phone to my mate, The Barrell (so called cos he has a double barrelled surname), and he is rounding up a local firm in the Weybridge/Oxshott/Cobham area of Surrey to back us up. These guys are really bloody handy, so I wouldn't worry.

Best place to spark the trouble is at the crossroads by KFC after the game when their escort walks past.

Is there a convenient petrol station nearby that we could try to set on fire ? :D

there might be something in it, Ive just seen kate Adie in a flak jacket outside SMS

As for the opening post, the poster was only doing what thought best and warning people. All for the best intentions and so give him a break

Jeeze, has there ever been a high profile match without this kind of guff going around a Forum before ?

Guff from the police it may be but I put it out there as a heads up out of decency and was straight from the horses mouth.

FFS If I get to St Marys on Saturday and there's no violence, I'm going to sue the OP, the Police and Portsmouth for wrongful advertising. I haven't nutted anybody for ages, got more chance of getting away with it in a mass brawl.

(I guess I'll just have to nut the missus instead...)

Let's get a few things straight.

1) Millwall and P*mpey mobs absolutely ******* hate each other, they certainly won't be coming down to team up with P*mpey.

2) If they were going to have a pop at P*mpey I very much doubt they would do it on what will be one of the highest policed games in the country this year.

That is all.

football violence is one of the most ridiculously hyped up pathetic things in this country. it actually embarresses me that we have a thread on here like this?! why avent the mods shut it down??

the reason why this thread is comical to me...

1. millwall and pompey hate each other

Correct

2. we dont have a large hooligan following, as much as some people like to think we do we dont (which is a good thing)

We are a Cat C team, so there must be something there... only Leeds, Millwall and Southampton are Cat C in our division, you do the maths.

5. even if there was a massive group of pompey/millwall at the game who exactly is going to fight them? cos the last time i looked, we were southampton the 'family club' that has a few idiots like most clubs do but does not have a large active firm looking to kick off and who are willing to do serious time and get hefty banning orders for fighting...

Again, once again I will be told to shut up and stop promoting violence, but if you honestly think that Southampton does not have a large 'active firm' so to speak then you lead a very sheltered life

lol rant over!

p.s. delete thos thread please mods! its seriously embaressing!!!

To summarise, you can brush it under the carpet as much as you want, Southampton are a Cat C team along with Millwall and Leeds in this division. I will leave you to work out why that is.

I remember last years Valentines weekend where our darling Mr Pointon got his 'football intelligence' a little bit wrong.

Hardly any lads made the trip... he got the wrong end of the stick and listented to a rumour, ordered over 100 riot police to be in the Saints end at Bristol City

About 40 OB, vans and horses ended up escorting 15 lads.

Can the OP admit that he was talking complete bollix.

That has to be one of the most embarrassing posts on here for ages.

I, sir, wasn't 'talking complete bollix' as you so kindly put it. I cant confirm whether the rumour passed on by the police is or not though as I'm not in the force myself.

Have a bit more respect for peoples threads on here will ya pal. If you don't agree with something fair enough but but don't accuse people of mimicking you.

It is solely down to me, I am a double hard bastard with the power of ten bears in each bicep. When I left the country last year the level of policing at Saints games dropped considerably. Coincidence? I'll leave you to work it out.

There won't be massive trouble.... it will be complete overkill all over Southampton with police, few fights breaking out here and there, that will be about it.

I do believe that last time we played them, there was over 100 convictions, around 600 hours of banning orders handed out, some coppers injured and many more people injured. The figures were put on bus stops and billboards and the like by Hampshire Police to illustrate the level of aggro and violence that occured that day. If I find the pic of it I will put it up.

That was all them, and they won that day. Morons.

Not the last time they came to us, that was the time-before-last we went to them, and as Hatch has said, the only involvement Saints fans had in it was having to stand in a hailstorm in the middle of Fratton while the locals torched a police car in a petrol station and heaved rubble around their own city, fighting the police instead of us lot because we were so well protected.

Having said that I missed most of the first half thanks to the police cordon around us and nearly got crushed in the rush for the turnstiles, but there were still about 3000 Skate mongs out in the street near the away end when we were finally allowed to arrive - thirty minutes into the match, which was going on inside a ground less than 10 yards from where they were, and also live on tv. One suspects they were not there for the football.

The square root of bugger all happened last time they came to us.

Not sure, I just saw the figures. I'm trying to find it again, but it was on a facebook page, and that's like looking for a needle in a haystack! Wouldn't surprise me though mate.

Never mind "wouldn't surprise you", do we actually have to find a bloody link, it's a well know fact?

Well anyway : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/dorset/3861873.stm

"Det Insp Derek Stone, who led the investigation into the riot, codenamed Operation Market, said: "There was serious crowd disorder after the game involving Portsmouth supposed fans who were hell bent on trying to attack the 2,000 Southampton supporters who had travelled to watch the game.

"We had no trouble from the Southampton fans but out of their frustration at not being able to get to the Southampton fans, because of police tactics, they turned their anger on the police.

"We had virtually three hours of running battles with people - we had property damage, looting and attempts to set fire to cars."

Some 55 people have so far been charged over the riot, of whom 33 have been convicted.

Police say Portsmouth FC officials are to ban for life all those who are convicted. "

spot on, i suspect if there is a load of trouble at this game this weekend it will be people who dont go to games and will just be local yobbos who see this as a great time to have a ruck. they will probably never be involved in anything football related and will be unknown to police football intelligence.

Yeah well all I saw was this poster thing, saying how many arrests there was when we last met. It didn't say how many on each side. No one has ever told me the tale of the great battle of Fratton in detail so how should I know... Was only repeating what I saw!

But you posted this "rumour". You cant just post several lines of detailed rumour / "I've been told" stuff, without giving any consideration as to whether or not its complete bollix and worth posting, and then complain you dont know if its true when a host of others say its crap!

Didn't happen much the last 3 times they came here.

i think that is the point everyone is making. we wont attack them like they would us so trouble probably wont occur. they will walk straight from the station to the ground in theyre escort pretty much unopposed because the majority of our ''hooligans'' dont want large banning orders or to go inside for some stupid fight over a football game. at the end of the day it just isn't worth it.

I appreciate that people may think the rumour itself is crap, I would put money on it being police tactics myself! I just don't appreciate people attacking me for posting it in the first place! I wasn't just spouting off rumours for a reaction. As soon as I heard it (from a policeman, not just somewhere on the internet) I thought i'd better make people aware for their own safety!

Maybe I was naive to think they police might actually be onto something!

You might want to consider the fact that other posters on this forum may also have connections to the OB.

And, whilst they have confirmed that there will be a huge turn out of OB from all over the Hampshire, and that they are expecting disorder, they havent heard of other teams coming down to "join" pompey.

So, from my point of view, what you are saying is sensationalist bollix

The policeman I spoke to just wanted to warn me about the news he had heard at the station. He isnt the sort to lie like that, and why would he? Why would another team be mentioned for no reason by me or my mate?! I have better things to do then make up rumours and annoy some people (and in the process give myself a bad name on here). Nobodys saying the force as a whole didn't pluck the rumour from thin air though.

If other people have connections with the OB and can confirm otherwise then they are perfectly welcome to say so on here and we can dismiss the rumour!!! As I have repeatedly said, I wasnt confirming that there WILL be trouble or that the rumour is true.

I can confirm though that I didnt mention it to cause a stir.

Geez, Doing what you think is right and of benefit to others gets you nowhere with some people.

ok, its just standard advice for this forum - need to think before posting. lots of people hear lots of things, blimey footy thrives on rumours! But some are clearly rubbish and not worthy of posting, thats all.

some good debate about the game itself, fair play

I figured that coming from a policeman made it worthy of posting... My bad.

The Uglies were the older guys who tended to drink upstairs in the 'Wagon. The Inside Crew were the younger 'casuals' who drank downstairs. The terms were paired together for the title of a famous fanzine of the time ran by Clive Foley and Nick Illingsworth. The latter funnily enough, is still running a substandard website of the same name. ;)

No harm is sharing this kind of information, let's show a bit of solidarity.

Just think though would you rather whack a skate and never watch Saints again or indulge in 100% supporting the team, winding up the idiots, singing throughout and celebrate a famous victory. I know which I'd prefer and a banning order, not being able to watch Saints would be about the worst thing going.

I'm sure there will be a 'bit of this and a bit of that', but I think we are all together in saying let's keep it out the ground.

Best way to P1ss them off, win 3-0.

Not condoning them, just interested. Coming from Salisbury 657 was all i used to hear of .... never any of these.

First season they came here in the league cup a large pompey following looked for saints in st marys st. When they found said group they were chased and a few were badly beaten. Saints will again be out looking for them this saturday, just because you dont see something doesnt mean it doesnt happen.

What is this wagon that you speak of and who is this young upstart Jason bridle?

I bet he was a scruffy little street urchin:-)

The original hardcore mobs were the Wimpson and the Market Diner, there were also nasty pockets from the Haymarket, Basset, Weston, Hightown etc.

The first real unified boozer was the Warrens, which saw the infamous 'Warrens last stand' on the Saturday of the Salisbury .v. Millwall game at the Dell, when all hell broke loose...we never went there again. The (Painted) Wagon then became the kinda 'meeting' spot. I remember in the heyday on a Friday night some misguided and afterwards 'very sorry they'd tried' pompee fans paid a visit. Not being around Southampton now for ever, I believe it's called the Soul Cellar. I missed a re-union there about 2 years ago, but my nipper TTjr and a whole bunch of faces including Nick, Stan, Kade, Eastleigh Soul Boy, Ponty, Ace, Joely etc etc did go and reckoned it was a great day.

The last time I saw a gathering of the old faces was prior to the last skate game I was home for when we won 2-1 after going one down with Keller in goal. It was at that old pub between the ground and the SW House...on the corner, tbf I think it used to be a gay pub at one time, closed now I believe. Filth everywhere!!

Well, my "little" brother is usually Silver Command at Millwall and travels with the away boys occasionally. If they were coming down he would have told me. And our Mum.

He's ex St Marks and Bellemoor so on the wider question of police intelligence, I leave that to individual interpretation.

heard it from a mate who has a relative in a bristol city firm (yes Brizzle ****tey have a firm) they are indeed meeting up with some millwall and pompey fans that they regularly travel to england matches with.
