no what significance is the jpt to anyone, it the southern area final of some **** pot trophy.

ok so you get to go to wembley... for me, much better to beat pompey and go to wembly for real in the fa cup final..... so there...! :-)

The paint pot is an admirable achievement for lower division teams, of which we're one. It'll be a great day out for the fans and a lasting memory if we win it. Don't dismiss this out of hand but take it in the context of our current position. Good things come to those who wait.

The JPT cup is a joke - ask Luton

what are you on about now?

I think you'll find that Luton took 30k+ to wembley and enjoyed that victory more than anything they've had to endure over the past 3 seasons.

what am i asking luton then?

We are going to win The FA cup after winning the JPT.......The league will have been a closely run thing with the playoffs and final....Then I awoke from my dream...Not sure of the result...I live in hope in my little Saints dream land...

How is that plastic?

Criticise me for not going to games, when I do im plastic.

OH dear!!!

You take the **** out of the cup yet despite only going to a few games

you say you will go to this one.

If it is such a tin pot joke cup don`t go save your money and go

to a league game and give the match threads some peace.

Or what about the Cup final in '03? The feel good factor from that, IMO, is what propelled us to a Champions League spot the following Christmas. I tihnk winning the JPT would be far more of a boost to the players and fans than moving up to 8th or 9th place in the League.

We also happened to finish 8th in 2002/2003, so there's a case it was the FA Cup + league which propelled us to a Champions Lge spot...

Havent been to any qualifying games - will only go to final.

Wouldnt normally bover but its Wembley baby

i think that's confirmed your status as a WUM.

The JPT is the priority. If we beat MKD on Tuesday I believe we'll go into Saturday's fixtures much more confidently and improve our chances of a win. I also think that winning through to Wembley could very well carry over into improved league form but I doubt we'll make the play offs now.

I will continue to enjoy this season, best season for years, winning games and scoring freely, spending money and not looking over our shoulder all the time. Anyone who is gutted by our league position needs their head read IMHO - would have traded my right arm for this a few months ago. Next season we will walk this league ;)

JPT a day out to Wembley would be fantastic

..and a good game on Saturday would be nice

But read my post more carefully - even with this dip in form (which IMO, isn't that drastic a dip) the improvement we've made since Pardew took over is clear to see. But not to the three I mentioned further up the thread.

Not being funny here, but have you watched many of the recent games because if you are saying you have and you still don't think our recent dip in form is not "drastic" then you have me concerned. For instancewere you at yesterday's game.

Lowly Exeter had us fighting, in the 2nd H for our lives and everyone around me (not friends) were quite shocked at our malaise and inability to conjure up any resistance.

FWIW - this is how previous winners of the JPT/football league trophy fared the following season:

2000/01 Port Vale – 14th

2001/02 Blackpool – 13th

2002/03 Bristol City – lost in playoff finals

2003/04 Blackpool – 16th

2004/05 Wrexham – 13th

2005/06 Swansea – 7th

2006/07 Donnie – playoff winners

2007/08 MK Dons – playoff semi-finalists

2008/09 Luton???

In addition Bristol City and Swansea both made the playoffs in the years they won the JPT while MK Dons won L2.

Not much you can read into any of this, though there seems in recent years to be a closer relationship between success in the cup and subsequent league performance. Perhaps proof that trophy is growing in stature and more teams are taking it seriously. In other words, you have to be half-way decent to win it which augurs well...

This is the same Exeter that beat Leeds 2-0 a little while ago, isn't it.

I think the JPT final would be a great day out for thousands of people, a little light relief after the recent dark years.

JPT is a bit of a nothing cup. Winning it etc would be great but it should not be prioritised over the league.

P.S- Yes im going and yes i will go if we get to Wembley, already booked it off call

Are you Chuck Bartowski?

Yep, but everyone is drifting off the real goal for sustained success and a prosperous club with these rosy-tinted images of having a few hours at Wemberlee for the Johnson Paints Trophy...

Winning a trophy at Wembley = success, another step on the ladder of sustained success

and the first success less than 12 months of the regime?

Possibly. But really the lowest form of success we could have hoped for. Getting into the play off's, and losing them would be more of an achievement that winning the JPT imo

hate losing play offs so not sure would agree with that!

Disagree - lowest form of success, not getting relegated

Agree - getting to the playoffs and losing would be a bigger achievement but the trip to Wembley and winning against (potentially) Leeds would be a worthy achievement and will certainly be a big stepping stone on our journey forward.

Repay the board for the investment, give the fans a well deserved day out and would be a something of note in our history. People still talk about the Zenith Data cup more than they do of failed playoff games.

First we beat MK Dons.

Then we beat Pompey.

Then we aim for a top ten spot in the League.

Then we beat Leeds in the JPT final. Success breeds success, the new players gell and we go from strength to strength. But sorry, I did the Predictor a month ago and even with a sequence of mostly wins and one defeat only (v Leeds in the League) we can't make the play-offs because other clubs above us don't slip up. The best we can make is 9th. Too far too late.

So lets make the most of each game as it comes.

I think I can see were Pardew is going wrong. He is watching games! If he were to move to the continent, say Austria, and select his team and tactics based on an internet forum, I am sure he would be much more successful!

No need for Austria. Maidstone is far enough......

League should always be priority. Playoffs are not dead until they're mathematically impossible - never know what team might slip-up, go into admin etc etc. JPT is a chance to win some silverware and we might not get another chance at it as next year it will be all about promotion (or we might be in the CCC already!). FA Cup is just a healthy distraction while we're at L1 level.

What relevance does it have ?

People that attending every game have said we are going backwards.

Oh, so take that as gospel then! You question everyone positive & jump on the negative bandwagon cos it suits & take the word of supporters. Not wanting to disrepect the forum members that understand the game & give a valid view, a large part of this forum & fickle fans in general do not have a feckin' clue!

Only the other wk at St Mary's during the Stockport game, the usual old boy/gob sh*te was shouting out, going red in the face & bursting veins in the opening 5mins (which I & my friend found intensly irritating)...the squad passing & the game being cautious. To be fair, it was a dull game but the opening mins are often like that. It's like chess, fathoming your oponent out.

We've certainly dipped in form recently but that could have been due to relentless fixtures & certain players (Lambert, Lallana, James, Hammond & Harding before injury) never getting rested. Once these new players have bedded in, giving us more depth, I'm confident fortunes will improve. Don't forget Pardew has already achieved a lot in a relatively short space of time.

Judge Pardew at the end of the month, after the two cup games, two tricky away ties and a home game v Walsall.

If we perform well in the cup games and get 7 points in the 3 league games I will be happy.

Getting a result at Norwich will be very hard but not unachievable.

Get behind the team, fed up with the negativity.

There are people on here, myself included, who question Pardew and our supposedly improving side. Performances have not improved and appear to have gone backwards.

That said everytime I take the kids to SMS we shout and cheer and swear at the ref like all the rest. We support our team through thick and thin.

I am not satisfied that the team is now improving. Before Xmas we were 9 points behind playoffs now we are 15. Figures speak for themselves.

As for the games we have coming up. In the next month we also have Huddersfield and Swindon at home. We are likely to drop more points but though I will be disappointed I will feel less so if the team is showing signs of getting it together.
