derry Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 If the team was actually playing entertaining football it would be easier to look at possibly replacing various players with better ones. In the current pragmatic emphasise on clearances; heading the ball forward at every opportunity; and aiming for Ricky's head, it is very difficult to see what better players would achieve, because this is not the result of a poor playing staff, they have already proved that they can do better. There is nothing wrong with working hard, but it must be for a purpose. At the moment the purpose is lost, and so is the entertainment. No amount of time given to a manager without purpose to his actions will not be of much use. Pretty much says it all.
Saint-Fred Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 Yep, they got to be running an $8bn business by turning the other cheek all the time, didnt they ? Yes and we got in the mess in the first place by changing managers every 6 months..Even Sir Alex needed time to get a team together and it is well documented how close he came to the sack. Anyone with half an ounce of sense can see we are a better team now than even 6 months ago..it isn't perfect but 2 defeats in 26 games would be a record any team would want. If a lot of those draws turn to wins, which I don't believe is far away, I hope those calling for another managerial change either hang their heads in shame or just hang! Funny lot some Saints supporters even when things are getting better they find an excuse to be suicidal or anti Saints! (Not aimed at the poster above or anyone in particular) but everytime we draw a game there seems to be an inquest..god help AP if he gets us to the PL and we don't beat Man U,Chelski and Arsenal away at the first attempt!

They're putting a lot of pressure on me and I'm putting it on the players in the best way I can, without making them taut and tight. I'm the one who is taut and tight! Quote 2: Alan Pardew's own future beyond the summer still shrouded in doubt. 5 year plan or not - NC and ML want results fast and rightly so. who said quote 2?

sadoldgit Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 Play offs haven't looked likely for some time. However this is a good season. We are 90 minutes from Wembley and in the 5th round of the cup. Our league position is secure. I would have taken that in July!!!! Me too mate.
NickG Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 doubt if there is saints supporter who wouldn't have

We don't seem to losing matches like we sued to so that I would say was a result. Yep, we have drawn too many matches and that needs to change but I think some people need to be patient. It took the great Lawrie Mac three seasons to get us out of the 2nd Divsion with much better players.
ericb Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 i'm always deeply confused by people that want the manager sacked straight away. Don't they realise that it takes a few seasons (not games) for a manager to get his team in place. In fact i'd argue that the reason we're where we are is as much as anything to do with having to many managers. What we need now is to give pardew a chance, get off his back and see what he can do with his team. It always used to be the way that managers would get two or three seasons, now they seemingly get two or three months. But of course it's a healthy culture that wants everything now, not laying the foundations and putting the work that's needed. And of course we see how successful that strategy is through clubs like pompey and leeds. Lets give pardew time, the same with the new players we've signed, rather than jumping down their throats because we're not manchester united already.

Chelsea change managers every year (it seems) they do alright. Arguements for both sides - dont stick just for the sake of sticking in my moto. I do not want AP sacked - just want results to improve and promotion next season is a must.
ericb Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 i'm fairly sure promotion next season is a must no matter how much you troll on the internet. Just out of interest why don't you leave it now you've said your piece? I'm not going to lie i'm sick to death of the infighting at our club and now it's changing lets just enjoy it. So what if we're having one more season in league one, **** happens, and as you rightly said next season is really the important bit. For this one lets just hope the team start gelling and hope we beat the skates
Docker Walker6 Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 Reason: 11 wins in 28 Where is this winning mentality AP chats so much about? Poor season! Short memory, eh no preseason!!!!!

OldNick Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 Oh, very witty. Unfortunately for you, this site was last night full of people who attended yesterdays game saying the same thing.but when people who go to games have a differing view you get all defensive and then say well' merrington said this or the commentator said that' I accept you make your posts out of frustration as you want us to do well, but it does get pretty irritating after every game or every manager change. The people who should be critical are the people who put their hard money into the club, they have the right to the opinion.ML is the man who should be respected to make the correct decision ,as ultimately he has put his money where his mouth is. Have an opinion and share it, it makes the site more enjoyable, but how about showing some support and positivity to the club for a change.

There is a thread on this site where there are comments about how the poster will be disgusted if NC/ML decide to dispense with APs services. Hardly any respect for the men who are putting so much money into the club it makes the gate revenue look piddling in comparison. And you seem to be reverting to the old mentality that only people who attend games have the right to make the observation that we played sh*te. As I recall telling you before, if we played sh*te, then we played sh*te, and it doesnt matter who says it. And yesterday, especially 2nd half, we were SH*TE.

When we went on that run where we won loads (most of them 3-1s), I can remember seeing Alpine maybe once or twice.

Verbal Kint Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 The playoffs are gone now, and we aren't going to be relegated. But this next few months are crucial for AP and the team. For the first time in a while, i'm going to be more concerned about performances than results. I want to see us dominating games, particularly in the middle of the park where i think we have looked gutless and weak. I want to see us showing signs of being able to keep a few clean sheets (5 out of 28 in the league so far tells it's own story). I want to see us providing Lambert with some proper chances rather than having to create them himself. I want to see AP finding a formation that allows us to get the best out of our creative players (Lallana in particular). If at the end of this season AP hasn't done that then i think it's fair to start asking some serious questions of whether he's the right man for the job next year. We've spent a lot of money for this league, and AP needs to get this team showing some signs that it has the potential to challenge for the league next year. So far it hasn't even come close. We all have opinions on the best team, formations etc, but AP is the man paid to get it right. Time for him to show that he's capable of it

Junction 9 Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 This season should have been fun. Spent millions but seriously under-performed. 11 wins in 28 is not good enough for a L1 side with so much quality. Maybe that's just it.

pilsburydoughboy Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 So you have chosen to ignore the people who were at the match yesterday who said similar things, have you ? And I get accused of having an agenda... I was simply refering to the most vocal posters on here who never go to a game but can drew conclusions that we are going backwards, failing, under acheiving etc etc etc. I have no agenda except that i do resent people who just spend their time being negative. I am grateful we still have a club and am currently loving life as a Saints fan. Smile you might enjoy it.
NickG Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 some performances recently have been concerning. we are still getting 2 points per game which is decent return if we drop below 2 points per game then I would imagine Pardew would have to answer questions to NC. I would also be disappointed, for what thats worth! if we get over 2 points per game for the rest of season I think that is pretty good

Charlie Wayman Posted 7 February, 2010 Posted 7 February, 2010 When were the play offs ever on the agenda for this season. When the new team took over a five year plan was put in place. This is year one which is all about rebuilding a club that was fractured to its foundations by a fool and his cronies. I am glad that we still have a club to support and enjoy getting to every game that i can. If we dont win the league or make the plays offs next season then questions have to be asked but not now. Pardew's your man. He's the one who's been shouting it from the rooftops. It's obvious to the rest of use that he's protecting his Rrse!

Plonko Posted 8 February, 2010 Posted 8 February, 2010 For the first time in a while, i'm going to be more concerned about performances than results. I'm not........... Well, at least not to start with. The way I see it is that our league games from now on are the start of our pre-season for the 10/11 season. If that means the odd bad performance because we're trying something different then now is the best time to do that. Finding out what doesn't work is just as important as finding out what does and is all part of the bigger picture.
